Hey,

So I was excited about the new painting app... until I started to follow it to paint Ultramarines.

The app suggests for Ultramarine Armour that I paint:
Maccrage Blue base,
then a Nuln Oil wash,
then Calgar Blue LAYER,
followed by a Fenrisian Grey edge highlight.

I trusted it despite my doubts and what I ended up with was nothing like Ultramarine blue. These steps result in Calgar Blue being the dominate colour. My guess: it missed a second Maccrage Blue layer and the Calgar Blue was meant to be labeled as an edge highlight.

I found a similar thing with other colours, like the app's suggestion for Gold. Anyone else found this?

Check out the latest "How to paint" video. Calgar is not meant to be used a kind of overall layer, but as overall edge highlight. The colors are sorted by their technical category, not by their use for the miniature, which is kinda silly...

It's because the true colours are likely mixes, even possibly non-Citadel colours, so these guides are a near as possible using pure Citadel paint.

Of course, there is always room for mistakes as well, they did miss two colours off the list completely until the last update, but I tried to follow their recipe for Daemonette flesh a few years back and had to abandon it and find my own way because it was nothing like how it was supposed to look.

Yes, the how to pain video is what I followed in the end. Weird that Fenrisian Grey is listed as an Edge Highlight though as it's a Layer too.

jeah, you are totally right that this does not make any sense. It's simply wrong in the app!

Email them and let them know. Maybe they'll send you something for your troubles (and maybe not, I'm just a hopeful sort of person, lol).

But yeah, it should be both Calgar Blue and Fenrisian Grey both applied as edge highlights.

Yep I emailed them today. Hopefully they fix it soon, cause it chews quite a bit of time when my painting time is limited as is. I should have known better, I did actually think what happened would. But I trusted them, thinking I might end up with a cool new look that works but isn't traditional Ultramarines.
