So apparently there's no "limit 1" to anything on the Vehicle Equipment List, and certain vehicles (e.g. Leman Russes) are given access to items from the Vehicle Equipment List.

Does this conceivably mean that a Leman Russ could have, say, fourty hunter-killer missiles (if one modeled it like a M4 Calliope Sherman)? Or like, 12 Heavy Stubbers?

It depends on the exact wording and exact situation.

Leman Russes have "Any model may take items from the Vehicle Equipment list."

The rule for the wargear list states "Many of the units you will find on the following pages reference one or more of the wargear lists below. When this is the case, the unit may take any item from the appropriate list."

Compare and contrast the Predator from Codex: Space Marines, where it limits it by saying "This model may take a hunter-killer missile." Or to a Captain where it may replace one item with "an item" from a list.

So yeah, RaW you can take 3 Trillion Hunter-Killer Missiles and 3 Trillion Storm Bolters for a Leman Russ.

Who says the new IG codex isn't maximum cheddar?

The real crux comes down to the meaning of the word "any" and whether that permits one or unlimited purchases. An Errata/FAQ worthy situation for sure. There is an indirect indication it's meant to be one only in the "A vehicle cannot have both a heavy stubber and a storm bolter" rule, but it's by no means definitive.

Hunter Killer Missiles aren't on the vehicle equipment list.

Knock yourself out with 44 Dozer Blades by all means!

From what I can see they missed off the ability for Russes to have a missile at all, oops.

Yes they are. Page 85 of the codex, 4th entry in the Vehicle Equipment List.

Ah how funny, I stand corrected, later on where I peeked they just listed the track guards etc. I stand corrected.

I look forward to the tears of anyone who builds a 'Leman Russ Whirlwind' then gets butthurt by an FAQ that says SERIOUSLY? NO!

I'm going with 'take any item' not being interpretable as 'may take multiples of'.

Surely the Russ can take Dozer Blades and a Hunter-Killer Missile.

That wouldn't be multiples of items from the list, it would be two items from a list where they're allowed to take any item.

I could see somebody doing that and modelling something with the size of 44 Dozer blades. Basically, the vehicle provides cover for all the other units in the army as it moves up toward the enemy, with dozer blades taking up the width of the board, while indirect fire weapons sit behind and lob fire over the Russ into the enemy.

Of course, it would have been more impressive if they still had the older edition rules about wrecks staying on the board. Then, it could have been a big mess if the Russ didn't explode.

Would 44 dozer blades give the Leman Russ +44 to hit in close combat?

But it doesn't seem to make any sense to read that as forbidding multiples and nothing more. How can you get that out of it? Possibly you could read it as allowing only a single item, period, but this is clearly not how it's supposed to work.

Yeah it depends whether any item means any number of any item or any item once

I am in favor as its crazy but

RAW seems ambiguous

No, because no matter how many blades it has its still "... a vehicle with a dozer blade..."

Because I'm reading it as allowing you to choose any items from the list, just not any more than once. It's clearly the authors' intent to me, as per the stubber/storm Bolter note, because of precedent and modelling options, because you can't have 44 dozer blades... bunch of reasons.

Omg. I can see it now. A punisher with the big gun, and then a whole bunch of tiny gatlings (each barrel being a heavy stubber) just festooned all over the tank, taking up an entire 2000 point army in one Auxiliary slot.

Let's see..

Punishers are 150 points or so, plus the stubbers...

...one Punisher tank with 462 heavy stubbers.

Enuff dakka?

More than one Dozer Blade is silly and obviously not intended. Two Storm Bolters? Not silly, and we can't possibly know if intended. Rules shouldn't work like that.

One can never have 'enuff dakka'. Such a thing does not exist.

No; Stormbolters and AlRahem them into the enemy deployment zone.

This could make for a really interesting conversion application though; say; AA autoguns quad mounted on a chimera or something.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

Press Button, Delete Unit.

Let's also not forget the silly RAW that forces you to fire your HK missiles the first time you fire, so it really is a 1 hit wonder.

Does no one notice space marine seargents can have infinite bolt pistols? Replace bolt pistol with weapons from seargents list - seargents list may take two weapons from list contains bolt pistol rinse and repeat. A pistol is free too. Infinity bolt pistol shots.

RAW. RAI. I'm the one with a tank that has more ordnance than Terra itself.

Seriously though, so what if somebody (with the voice of reason) modeled two or three hunter-killer missiles to his tank and uses one during each of the first three turns? We still tend to playing with points more often than with power ratings, so with that added granularity such opponents would still be forced to spend points for each one-shot missile, that can still miss. And realise that I do agree with people saying this can fall out of whack with power ratings, and less reasonable people. But we all know that such people, the TFG's, can be delegated into seeking out eachother, or suffer total social isolation.

900 Storm Bolters at rapid fire range deal about 50 damage to a Warlord Titan, which would leave it at about 10 wounds. A bit of luck, and you kill it.

Curiously, the Titan's degrading save menas that it would be much more efficient to split your Storm Bolters between two tanks, even though you then get fewer guns. At 2000 pts, two Basilisks each decked out in maximum Storm Bolters take out a Warlord.
