Thanks guys. The actual content seems pretty good (as in, I would use it), but would you say it's worth the regular boxed set price x3? I'm really not too familiar with the individual products.

As far as neoprene mats and such go - since Manchu mentioned that it's more of a Miniatures game than a boardgame, would "normal" wargame mats, tiles, scenery, etc work okay with the game? Answer might seem obvious, but I guess it's the boardgame / x-wing-style at best presentation as opposed to, say, Infinity or a Warlord or GW starter I'm trying to wrap my head around.

As in, does it use those 3" tiles as measurement or similar, like DeadZone? (that's the not-necromunda one, right?)

It uses normal measurements. There are no "squares" for movement. A normal mat could be used, but the game is generally played on a smaller area. A typical game is played on a 20"x20" square map which is the size of the deluxe mats. There are currently 5 deluxe mats available and they can be connected to make a 40"x40" playable area for really large games. Personally I think the best thing about the game is that you can play solo, play co-op for the majority of the story scenarios in the expansions, or can play in versus mode. Heck you can easily even do a free for all. I have ran a few local tournaments with up to 10 players in one game controlling one or two survivors each.

Any decision yet Azazelx?

What are the differences between the regular edition and the "Collector's Edition" and are they worthwhile? Moreso from a miniatures gamer's perspective rather than just a board gamer's one. There's a HUGE price difference between the two.

The collector's edition is superior to the core box. It comes with a neoprene mat vs a paper mat...and it also comes with several expansions and boosters for a cheaper cost total. It also comes with the convention exclusives which can only be purchased at Conventions that Mantic would be at (GenCon, etc). The Lee and Clementine booster convention exclusive is highly sought after by people who play the game. I guess the characters are really good. So while the cost seems high, if you add up all the stuff separately it's a lot more money to purchase it all. All in all, well worth the money if you are interested in the game. I wish I would have known about the collectors edition before buying all the stuff I did...LOL. I would have saved me some money.

FWIW the con exclusives are also available via Mantic's website whenever Mantic is at a con (for those who cannot attend in person). Yet another cool thing about Mantic.

All the graffiti on the buildings is real graffiti taken from google images. LOL. Here's some more images from that game.

A blogger friend of mine is going to review it in depth shortly. Since the CE version is AU$140(!) (and that's "discounted") compared to the regular version @$48, it's a more-than-casual-impulse purchase, so I want to make sure I'll get use out of it if I decide to drop that much on the game. As I said, I don't know the characters, so I'm not excited by the prospect of playing as Lee or Clementine, as I have no idea who they are, as opposed to them being characters I know in an IP I'm familiar with - like, say, Han & Chewie. Instead, I'm more like. "Oh, okay."

Your game layouts both look great, but then that happens with any game put together by people who care about their table enough to make the effort (and can afford to do so), so I'm sure your games of anything else look equally as good.

Have you read any of the comics yet Azazelx? Have found they add some real enthusiasm for the game, as you can recreate bits of the series and do 'what'if' type scenarios.

There is quite a cool blog I'm following over on the Mantic forum at the moment, where someone is playing through a kind of narrative campaign which is running alongside the main story. Quite fun and I think gives quite a good impression of what the game is like

I neither read the comics nor watch the show so none of my enthusiasm for the game stems from that. I just really like the mechanics. I bought Lee and Clementine more because I wanted more options - the thing is, sometimes boosters come with item cards you can't get otherwise. So there is a little bit of an X-Wing issue there.

That said, I am still not advising you to get the collector's edition if you have terrain and mats or whatever already because the main value in that set, at least IMO, is if you're getting into miniatures gaming.

I will say, if you want a solo play game this isn't the strongest for that. But it is excellent as a PvP game thanks to the cool layer of tactics arising from moving the zombies around.

I think that says a lot if you're into the game without having seen those things, and if the mechanics are that solid. (although I suppose the concept of post-apoc survivors battling for supplies and trying to survive zombies does have a certain universal appeal!)

Hey guys, i just picked up a collector's edition and was wondering if there should be a deluxe matt and Rick on horse with it or were those optional?

Mantic's webstore lists a neoprene version of the paper mat that comes with the core set. But there is no mention of Rick on the horse.

I agree, especially considering how many zombie games are on the market.

Is the kickstarter edition different from the collectors edition?

Yes they are different. Kickstarter has wave 1 in the box, but no Lee, Clementine, Peg-leg Dale, or Scott Moon.

Thanks spidey.
Spent a big chunk of my Saturday going through a kickstarter version.
I had to Google everything to figure out who was who only to find a big poster showing it all after i was done... lol!

I was surprised how different the zombies are from each other and how unbent everyone was.

Unbent?

The different zombie sculpts are brilliant, really characterful - means that its far from a chore painting them.

I read that as a testament to the quality (as opposed to how board game minis are often bent up right out of the box).

Unbent = nice straight bats, swords, guns etc.
I don't even have any guys leaning at odd angles. Lol

Ah yes - sorry that was rather obvious!

Yes the sculpts are very solid. I suppose it helps that there is a general lack of thin and long components (swords etc.) - something that Zombicide: BP suffers from, despite the lovely sculpts so many of mine have ended up with bendy weapons. And a marked improvement on something like the D&D or Descent games, it definitely feels like the miniature casting has moved on.

I found that the back of the rules book made an excellent cheat sheet. It sums up all phases and such. About the only things I find myself looking up in the actual book is some of the weapon keywords when I can't remember what Sharp or such does.

They are underscaled in my opinion. The Zombicide minis have more realistic proportions and look too tiny next to TWD minis. I wouldn't use them together, but your mileage may vary. I do however think that the Zombicide board pieces would work great with TWD.

So does anyone else find splitting up multiple combats hard to understand?
I watched the video on mantics website and am still a little confused.
