To all the Speec Mehren players out there:

Is the mixing of Chapters on the tabletop something you do much of in 8th Edition? Did you do it previously in 7th Edition?

I know I used to mix Chapters a lot since having something like a Skyhammer Annihilation Force w/ Black Templar Chapter Tactics combined with a CAD that had Librarians, other units to fill in the blanks, and different Chapter Tactics seemed to work really well in 7th Edition for me. But now in 8th, there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as much benefit of mixing Chapters compared with 7th Edition, so I'm wandering what other people's thoughts on and experiences with this are?

Cheers

Chaos, technically yes? But I don't mix rules, just colorschemes.

Loyalists? Nope. One army, one rule.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

I avoid "chapter-mixing." Certain combos were powerful and goofy in 7th (such as the Barkbarkstar) and I am not playing 8th.

Vigo. Spain.

My Chaos force is a mixed warband of rattags and psychopats, Death Guards, Iron Warriors, Black Legion Rubric and Berzerker mercenaries, etc...

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

You certainly could mix chapters on the table top, but I'd be surprised.

I think in the Marine fluff, chapters are rarely deployed alongside other chapters as a routine. I think it's the truly epic, apocalyptic, superbattles where space marines might run into marines from another chapter (like Armageddon or the Badab War).

I wish I could change my answer. I said "no, but I have previously", but then I remembered that it was just a plan to play a certain army list that I had to change at the last second. So my real answer is "No, never".

Typically, only in 2v2s. Where each player on the IoM side has 1 chapter.

It's fair game in tournies. Feels wrong outside that.

I try not to as much as possible, but back in the day I did. 3rd edition, that shiny new baal predator came out with the rules in white dwarf, even through I was a Salamander player I had to have one so "poof, we stole a blood angels tank when no one was looking.". Same thing happened when the new land raider crusader came out in 3rd, it was " liberated" from those undeserving black templars, us salamanders had a more pressing need for it.

As this isn't an issue anymore (except the baal) I don't do it anymore. Plus I haven't used that baal as a predator in years, after it fell off a shelf and broke I rebuilt it as a razorback.

But yeah, sometimes it happens for good reasons.

It's the opposite. It's much more likely that a few squads of Marines from different Chapters will all be in one place, than a large part of a single Chapter.

Is it?

All the battles I ever read about in Codex: SM are "such and such chapter scoured such and such planet" or "such and such battle company did such and such with some stuff" or whatever.

I think I can count on one hand the number of times Marines fought alongside eachother from different Chapters:

1) Pre-organized crusades
2) The World Engine
3) The Badab War
4) Armageddon
5) ... I can't think of anything.

It does seem that even when elements of more than one chapter are deployed to a conflict they operate largely independently.

Literally depends what I feel like doing with the list. Right now I'm trying to perfect a joint Astral Claws and Raptors force (HERESY) but also have a pure Minotaurs and pure Carcharodons lists I use, as well as a pure Raven Guard.

Really depends.

Hmmmm.... to be honest I kinda expected more in the category of "Yes" haha. But I've always tried to compensate for the lack of range and psykers in my Black Templars army by allying them with other Chapters, but that seems to be unnecessary in 8th Edition (not to mention not commonly practiced by other players).
