I think my main concern here is that they're going to keep the worldwide distribution in-house rather than working with distributors in the US (and other countries). It's already hard enough to grow it here with the random and periodic restocks in US distributors. Having the only distributor be an online store in the UK isn't going to help.
Well, TTCombat/Troll Trader IS Kingsley Distribution, who do (UK?) distribution for Malifaux, Privateer, X-Wing, etc...
Also says "our own brand TTCombat" stuff on the Kingsley website.
Kingsley Distribution website also says they serve some US-based stores. They might wanna do it themselves? Dunno. But they aren't working through an online store only. They are a Distributor working with a few hundred stores for a wide variety of games.

Everyone has been describing the recent boom in gaming as a renaissance, But you can't have a renaissance without patronage.
I see TT combat as doing just that, Acting as long term patrons to the creatives who would otherwise not be able to support themselves despite love for their work.
TT combat COULD have bought these ranges and said "right, ours now, Off you go!" but instead they've said "right, we're going to handle everything money and business wise for you. Here's a paycheck, carry on doing what you do!"
It seems to me that they're doing this out of a genuine love for the hobby and desire to see it expand rather than just hoping they can flog some dead stock.
I think it's a positive move. Troll Trader briefly had a store here in Truro about three doors down from Games Workshop. A large part of it was given over to gaming tables and they came across as enthusiasts rather than businessmen (although their success suggests they are good at business). I gather they decided to move to a bigger industrial unit Newquay way and I can see why as the back third of the store was always piled high with stock which must have been the mail order side. They have stocked dropzone for some time and I've sourced my dropzone figs from them via ebay as they always had stock and were fair priced and quick. I wish them the very best and hope we will now start to see the regular releaes I have been hoping for including extra factions. if they could open themselves up a store front at their warehouse that would be a dream for me living just down the road as I do. Would also be a nice drop in for those who holiday here in Cornwall.

As mentioned above, while TT combat may seem like a small company, they are part of kingsley distribution that are one of the two main dealers of wargaming models in the UK. They have a lot of financial cloat behind them and I'm very happy to see them investing it back into some of these game systems.
it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Actually. It's not. As someone pointed out on German Forums, Kingsley Distribution has been a dormant company with no active trading since 2013 at least.

Never heard of Kingsley, but Troll Trader are excellent - I think they were under a lot of people's radar as they didn't stock any GW, but they were always good discounts with excellent service and delivery times.
I haven't really followed Hawk since the first few waves of DZC as I didn't enjoy the rules (seriously we've got 'to hit, to wound' rolls in a 10mm game?), but the models were incredible and after many years I haven't managed to part with my large PHR forces.
I'll be watching closely to see what pans out here. Here and over at Wayland/Spartan.

The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

You sure about that? Because I have had phonecalls with kingsley in the last 6 months and received deliveries from them.
What he's said is correct, but there's no reason that Kingsley Distribution Ltd has to be the same financial entity as Kingsley Distribution, Louis may have incorporated the name for a number of reasons yet never actually traded under it.

Or he gets to stay in business? Just because a business has been purchased, doesn't mean it's been sold for vast sums. It's a regular thing for companies to change hands for £1 because the purchaser assumes responsibility for the company's liabilities.
Not saying that's the case here, but "don't go bankrupt, sell me the company and I'll give you a job" is just as possible.

With due acknowledgment of all the variables that I and everyone else is unaware of, plus all the unquantifiable stuff like working relationship etc, the trouble with "I wanna be designing stuff" when it isn't your money on the line means that to a greater or lesser degree, you're signing away a percentage of the creative freedom that can only be achieved by answering to nobody.
This may never be an issue, or not for years, or it might happen next week when x model gets designed and the purse strings stay shut because people aren't convinced it'll sell. Running a company is hard (first hand experience) but it's the only way of truly being in charge, and the potential for tension between creative vs financial is so much greater when multiple parties are involved on each side, rather than the decision being yours alone.
Don't wish to sound like I'm doomsaying, I wish good things on both companies in those case, but my gut says there's a catalyst here beyond disliking doing the paperwork.

If memory serves, before Spartan / Hawk Wargames, David won a prestigious design award (D&AD Pencil is it's official name, apparently). He created a science fiction inspired chair that supposedly took everything by storm back in 2009.

We've seen how much a property like this is worth in the Spartan debacle and it's maybe a middle class yearly wage. This isn't video gaming where an indy hit can be worth billions.

Don't think so.
Book Net Worth of Hawk Wargames in the Filings 2016 (including accounts up to the end of 2015) was GBP 99,000.- (down 22% from the year before ) with some GBP 75,000.- owed to debtors.
On top the remaining obligations from the Kickstarter, possibly further slip in sales in 2016 and likely a discount to get a single buyer to pick it up? David might get a nice holiday or perhaps partially pay down a mortage a little and better be back to work as a paid designer for his game, would be my guess.

Fair enough. It's still clearly a dormant company with no revenue or trading with HMRS on all public records for several years. Maybe he runs all his bookkeeping through Troll Trader and uses "Kingsley Distribution" merely as a brand name distinct from Troll Trader or something.
I don't really know beyond the records available online.

This has just been shared on a couple of FB Groups:
Kanan Nallainathan to (Unofficial) Dropzone Commander Community
+++ LATEST UPDATE +++
just had a conversation with Dan (Lead Designer at TTCombat alongside Hawk Dave)... i asked ALOT of questions... Dan was very accommodating and was able to talk about various things that were part of the acquisition deal (that he was able to talk about)... some of which i would like to convey here...
Dan and the rest of TTCombat/Hawk want to help Dave create more units and loads of other cool stuff and they feel that the Hawk Brand is very strong... they want to allow the Dropzone/Dropfleet games to find increased growth and also want to support this every step of the way... TTCombat want to fulfil ALL lost/missing and late pledges to ALL remaining backers and then want to focus on an April release for DZC version 2.0 (the game will be showcased at Salute 2018)...
clearly later down the line DFC 1.1 will be looked at no doubt... going forwards TTCombat made it very clear to me they dont want to do anything to damage the Hawk Brand or hamper the growth of both games... also Dan wanted to let me know they want to engage the DZC/DFC Community alot more... so there will be updates and release information and lots of info released to us on the Community Groups at an increased pace...
TTCombat also want to support the Community and maintain good relationship with the playerbase... i think the games are in good hands but i am condensing a 40 minute conversation down to a short message to all of you here... so i hope this will reassure all of you about the future for the Hawk Brand... for Daves games and for TTCombat too...
wish all of you the best... Game-on... DFC/DZC is Life... <3

Since this was a business sale rather than an official administration there would never have been any possibility of KS backers (or any other customers) loosing out on items they'd ordered
(although the fact that stuff is still outstanding does suggest why the sale had to happen, )

We wanted to release an update to keep everyone in the loop on whats happening and so, here it is!
We've had our feet under the table now for a couple of weeks and we are starting to see our relaunch getting nearer! New master resin moulds are being sorted to make a full range of production moulds. Dave is busying away doing what he does best and coming up with fantastic new models while making finishing touches to the 2.0 rules (which loads of our staff are jumping at the chance to playtest)!
We have good news! We're in the process of fulfilling all outstanding Hawk orders and will begin shipping them next week after we've set about casting the missing stock.
A lot of people have been messaging asking why we didn't take the show only models to Crisis with us (and make them available on the website over the weekend like we do with our other ranges). The answer is that we are putting Kickstarter rewards and existing orders at the front of our work queue and it didn't feel right to make extra sales rather than fulfilling existing ones!
So the other good news is that we want to give everyone another chance to get the event exclusive models. We have decided that over the weekend when we relaunch Hawk products for sale on the TTCombat webstore we will make the show models available as part of the relaunch party. They will be gone again on the Monday though! An exact date for this will follow soon. When we know, you'll know.
We are also working on the Talon programme and will be relaunching this in 2018. Talon points earned up to now will of course be honoured!
Regarding releases, there is some info on that too! The end of this month will see the Fleet Boxes released (at last!). We have a Commander for each faction in Dropzone, they will make an appearance in January. Then in 2018 we'll see Dropfleet Monitors, Destroyers and Dreadnoughts join the fray alongside the launch of DZ 2.0! A busy few months lie ahead! Attached is a SNIPpet (ha!) of one of the coming commanders. Whole reveal coming soon!
Over and out!

Awesome stuff, good to hear! The jagged panel lines on the preview suggest that it is a Resistance commander, but what could it be? A mech walker, perhaps? Snazzy nonetheless - nice to see an update!

One of the Resistance Famous Commanders in P2 has a mech - Rakkon Kell, the Headhunter is mounted in a Cortez class hunter-killer walker (which has industrial cutting claws).

I think roughly 4 out of 7 (or so) Hawk Employees lost their jobs unfortunately (yes, I'm eating crow on the internet and admitting I was wrong...)
They lost their playtesting and community related peoples, with the only ones left being Dave, Patrice and one other, who I didn't really know.
From reading on the facebook chat groups, it looks like it was... not kindly done, either. - There's suggestions of the staff first being told that they'll be working until the end of November, to then, allegedly, be told 'your services are no longer required' as the month opened.
And with the majority of staff being hired within the last 2 years, there's no legal recourse.
Reading the threads, it's kinda put a dampener on the whole thing, however they did stress that Dave did everything he could for them, but there's also the suggestion that he was kept out of the loop at key moments in the decision process.
EDIT: Please note this is a recounting of my own personal memories of a Facebook thread I read over a week ago, if you wish specifics and more accurate first hand views, please refer to the Dropzone Commander fan group. I am not making an allegations against TTCombat or Hawk Wargames, myself.

Ok every one here's the Q&A. Please remember i do not work or affiliated to TTC i do this for you lot. In regards to the future of DZC and DFC, will you continue supporting the Hawk social media forum, Instagram and Facebook groups? The latter has become a thriving community of players from around the world. If so, will you have a dedicated person we can interact with? - We will continue to interact with the community in many ways. We don’t know exactly which will work best and will be reviewing each one. If you’d like to see some examples of our engagement, simply check out the RUMBLESLAM and Carnevale Facebook pages (both official and fan pages), along with our Carnevale Kickstarter campaign. We do listen to our fans and support the community too. At the moment we have a small team that handle social media (among other roles), and will be expanding that team in the future. Will Talon recruitment change? - The Talon scheme will be changing, purely because we’ll be dealing with it entirely in-house at the TTCombat offices. The basis for the scheme is staying the same, but each element will be addressed separately to figure out the best way to make it work for both us and for the Talons. How will Talons be involved in the continued beta testing? - When we announce the details of the new Talon scheme next year we’ll answer that! The Talons are extremely important to the continued growth of DZC and DFC, and we really love the passion that they show for the games. We’ll be supporting them still in the future, but obviously as the business side of Hawk has moved to TTCombat, the process of managing the scheme will be changing too. Will planned events continue to be supported? If so how will support be requested? - If you’ve already planned events and were hoping on Hawk support, then please let us know! Just send us a message on Facebook and we’ll be able to sort these out on a case by case basis. At TTCombat we already support a lot of events worldwide, and will do so with Hawk too! How will the US distribution be handled? Will you continue using the old Hawk ones? - Worldwide distribution is our next big push at TTCombat. We’ll be looking to carry on working with the existing distributors along with new partners. Will you be supporting brick and mortar stores or will the games go purely online? - Yes. Big yes. Kingsley Distribution deals with brick and mortar stores every single day. RUMBLESLAM is a brand new game about a fairly niche subject, and has had such amazing support from stores around the world. We know how important FLGS are. Will invasion still happen? - Yep! How often will we be seeing new units? - That would be telling! More often than before! Will we get to see a digital version of the rules and/or a living online rule book that incorporates errata? - We have recently produced a living online rulebook and digital download for Rumbleslam and look to implement this across our entire product range When will we see phase 3? - At some time in the future! It’s still on the cards, but we can’t tell you a date yet. Will there be a campaign system? Will it incorporate both games? - That one is secret! Will DFC be getting named commanders, and if so, when? - Secret! Will DFC be getting boarding actions? - Secret! Will there be more factions? - Super secret! Do you have intentions of creating monstrous units? Aren’t the Broadsword and Hades are big enough? - Is “big enough” even a thing? Will we see a Resistance fleet? - The very nature of the Resis- actually I’m not getting into that debate! This is also secret! (but not a flat “no”, that’s for sure) Can DFC be less drop-heavy and have more space combat/deep space? - We’re not going to be making any sweeping changes to the games. We’re not that sort of a company! David is still lead designer, so if you like the direction the games have gone in the past, you should carry on enjoying it. We trust him to take the game in the right direction, but there’s no telling what’s going on in his brain! Will there be official acrylic tokens for DZC and DFC? - This sounds good to me. If only we knew someone that had a bunch of laser cutters to make them... On a personal note we’d like to send our thanks out to all the Hawk fans for being patient and forgiving during the last few months and over the time of the acquisition. We’d also like to extend our thanks specifically to the Talons who have done such a great job in the past. We know it’s all a little worrying and confusing at the moment, but we’ll be doing right by the fans in the future. There will be some changes coming, but most of them will be about how we run things behind the scenes. What everyone will see from these changes is more new toys, better communication, and their Kickstarter pledges finally arriving! Thank you to everyone for the support so far, and hopefully in the future too. TTCombat

Sounds like they are reversing Dave's commitment to no Resistance fleet, and if there's no named admirals I'll be shocked.
I get the impression that they are going to try to leverage Hawk's market penetration to get their own games into the US market (I literally haven't seen Rumbleslam anywhere here which is shocking given it's monster pro wrestling, and all I can find of Carnevale was terrain from the previous owner's run).
Which is fine! As long as they plan on stocking up DFC and DZC in US distributors so we don't run into "literally hasn't restocked this item in a year" situation again go for it.
