Subject: Where my inquisition buddies at?

So I have been resurrecting my foot Sisters of Battle for a local city-fight campaign (so far 2-0, even just walking across the board in a power-armour horde).
Part of the fluff for my army in the campaign is the presence of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. I have the model for her, but I'm thinking of expanding the inquisition detachment into its own spinoff "army" (more like a small plug and play detachment) and try to make Inquisition work.
Here are my ideas, but I'm happy to hear those from others as well!
1) Get Inquisitor Greyfax: having an Ordo Hereticus generic inquisitor is well and good for a campaign, but if she survives, I'd like her to upgrade to an Inquisitor Lord, and Greyfax seems like the perfect "hereticus inquisitor lord" stand-in. Sound good?
2) Really try to leverage that Authority of the Inquisition special rule: my Inquisitor's ride, with 4 of her acolytes, is a Venerable Land Raider. 8 pts more than a regular LR, but with half the transport capacity, it gains a 5++ and a 6+ vs. damage, as well as +1 BS. Seems to be good, durable anti-tank in a list, and in the fluff, large and scary enough to befit an Inquisitor. I'm also looking at other transports: been considering 5 Flamer Acolytes, 6 Crusaders and Priest in a Chimera with two heavy flamers - alternatively, could simply put 5 or 6 Flamer Acolytes in a Flamer Immolator, or the like. I want to figure out what transports to bring to really leverage the "mix-and-match transports" rule.
3) Get an acolyte loadout pinned down. Now I know that Acolytes are badwrongfunawful and I'll probably get yelled at for using a garbage-tier unit, but the sheer number of options here is staggering. Do I build for melee? Ranged? Mixed? Defensive? Attack? I've considered everything from 10 men with plasma guns and a Jokaero in a Chimera to 10 men with assorted melee weapons and pistols; I've considered all flamers (mentioned above) and hotshot lasguns. What's a good wargear loadout? And unit split? I could field 3 units of 1 if I wanted.
4) Good Inquisitor loadout: I've just kept it cheap with power sword + psyker. But perhaps there's more out there? Is tripling the price of the powersword worth a d3 damage force sword? Is a Thunder Hammer any good on a Str 3 model? I feel like it's not.
5) Other units: I mention Crusaders and Priests before, but what other units should be brought? I can bring literally anything Imperium - I don't mind losing doctrines or anything, it's all fine and for the sake of fluff.
6) I've considered keeping this to a Vanguard Detachment, so I can have 3-6 elites and 1-2 HQs, plus heavy support for the Land Raider transports. But if anyone has any more ideas, let me know!

My personal preference is to take a mix of Death Cult assassins and Arco Flagellants and go all Yolo on the enemy. Due to the two-wounds on the Arcos, they mathematically have the same survivability against 1 damage weapons as Crusaders, for the same cost but much more killy, so they can pull double duty as tanks and rhinoplasty surgeons (however for things that you want to flat out survive, Crusaders are better. Mathematically equal does not mean equal in practice). For ranged weapons I'd just field Scions (which is fluffy; Inquisitorial Stormtroopers are a thing).

Abuse that leadership and terrify power.
Also, I had a BLAST playing with daemon hosts, if you haven't looked at them, and don't mind the struggle that will be kill point games, they are hilariously fluffy for a unhinged Hereticus Inquisitor.
They are extremely fast, really durable, and have some fun quirky rules that your opponents will love/hate. And in a city fight they would be terrifying to infantry with all that LOS blocking terrain and close confines.

Sadly, the DCAs and Flagellants are Ministorum, and not Inquisition, meaning they lack the Ordo rule. While this, itself, isn't a problem, it does restrict them to Rhinos and Immolators rather than allowing for the neat transport options the rest of the Inquisition has. The Crusaders have the advantage of having the Astra Militarum keyword, opening Tauroxes and Chimerae as possibilities while preserving the Rhino and Immolator options.
The scions is actually a good idea, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to field them or not. I suppose I should but, again, even as "Inquisitorial Stormtroopers" they lack the Ordo rule, which seems quite powerful: re-roll everything against Chaos or Psykers is actually going to be quite powerful, I predict.
I have looked at Daemonhosts, but my Inquisitor's not radical enough. Hilariously, I've considered using a 30k Ogryn as a "daemonhost" and representing the weird powers with the unpredictable effects of experimental drugs being pumped into his system (since the 30k Ogryn models have scuba-gear on XD).

When it comes to the "index" units with GW, I tend to use the rules to represent what I want to get across fluff wise.
I really like your Ogryn idea, don't give up on it because it's not exactly the same as the model intends imo.
And EVERY Inquisitor is radical mate, that's why they exist lol.

I don't have a lot of play time to back this up, but I've also been looking at resurrecting my old Inquisition army and I suspect Scions are going to end up being pretty core whatever I do.
They may lack the Ordo rule, but consider that an Acolyte with a hot-shot lasgun is two points more expensive and comes with worse BS, a worse save, and no built-in Deep Strike as compensation for getting the Ordo rule and the ability to intercept wounds.
But the really big point recommending Scions, at least to me, is that they're Troops where Acolytes are Elites, so you're going to have a lot more Command Points to play with if you've got a detachment of Scions backing up your Inquisitorial elements.
Acolytes are more flexible, definitely, but don't discount Scions just because they don't have the Ordo rule.

I thought acolytes were the same price? 10 for the Scions w/ HSLG, and 10 for the Acolyte with HSLG? I agree the 1 point each of save and bs, as well as deep strike, means scions are far better - though the Ordo rule and the Bodyguard rule really makes inquisitors the focus.
I guess what I am worried about is the Inquisitorial Storm Troopers stealing the show from the actual Inquisitors, while the Acolytes can, at some level, just be more and more wounds for the Inquisitor themselves.
That said, do you think Acolytes are ever worth it with any weapon loadout?
I would guess that if they still had 3 wounds they'd be worth it - sometimes I wonder if they weren't priced for that, and the reduction to 1 was knee-jerk change.

If they weren't priced for three wounds, I'm honestly not sure what they would be priced for. Far as I'm concerned, "Scions" are just stormtroopers, and they're a part of the inquisition, and they're riding alongside my GK. Just like it's supposed to be.

I don't really have a problem with including Scions, just... how to do it without people saying "oh, just another Guard army." The new kit doesn't really have any Inquisition icons or anything, and I can't free-hand them on. I think maybe a sleek, black paintjob could do it, perhaps! I saw one this weekend that looked nice. Do you think there ever is a chance for the Acolytes to either drop in price or return to 3 wounds? Maybe when the chapter approved drops?

Oh, well, I don't know how to fix "just another guard army". I use kasrkin and cadian hostile environment guys for my stormtroopers, but that's because I had some 30 kasrkin laying around and I don't like space breastplates. Automatically Appended Next Post: I mean, we can always hope Chapter Approved fixes everything. That's what I've been doing for a while now. Maybe.
I suppose I like acolytes because I feel like the Bodyguard rule puts the emphasis on the Inquisitors themselves (as it should be), the Authority of the Inquisition rule helps me run a fun, mixed-transport detachment (say, an Immolator, Chimera, Land Raider, and rhino all in one army) and the Quarry rule actually does make them worth their points against certain targets.
Their flexibility is cool too; literally the only thing that upsets me is the unreasonably high points costs, both on the model (literally double the price of a guardsmen for no benefit) and weapons (Space Marine prices on an IG platform).

Tbh the Ogryn Bodyguard will most likely just be a face mauler, since he does that job far better than actually tanking hits.
As for changing up Scions, maybe give them the Skitarii Vanguard helmet to give them that "faceless robotic" feel?

So actually my Acolytes are already the Wargames Factory Greatcoat Troopers with Skitarii Vanguard heads and this gun.
I like the idea about the Ogryn bodyguard, I might use him instead of Crusaders and a Priest, maybe even bring more than one (I can't check now but I don't believe Ogryn Bodyguards are unique!).

Yes, the Codex:AM version is newest, and also didn't change anything save to add a keyword they didn't use to have.
So... tonight I built 2 plasma and 4 Bolt Gun acolytes on a whim...

We SHOULD just think of houserules for the club that make sense for acolytes and go with them. I would prob do it on a unit by unit basis to limit confusion. Something to bring back the fun options but make them less terrible (while not too powerful)
Just spitballing but...
Elite marksmanship training: BS 3+, 3pts a model
Genetic Enhancements: +1 Str,Toughness or Wound, 4pts a model
Carapace Armor: 4+ armor save, 2pts a model
Physic Blanks: -1 to cast powers directed at them, 5+ FNPS against wounds causes by physic powers, 2pts a model
Access to webbers (from GSC codex). Access to Omnispecs (7pts to 1 model, unit gains ignore cover).
Add back death cult assassins and crusaders, maybe with the caveat that they cost more due to gaining quarrey and authority of the Inq.
5 acolytes with multimeltas and +1 BS in a Land Speeder Storm. 247pts with 18' fly movement, 6 melta shots, 5 of which reroll to hit and wound against chaos vehicles. +the storm missiles and an option for lots of bolter shots. Super glass cannon but would be a fun one.
None of those upgrades would be terribly OP and they would still be overcosted, but would make their use much more fun.

Yeah, that sort of thing would be fairly neat! And I'm happy to use them at least in campaigns and stuff.
But I'd like to stick to real GW for pick-up games (so as to not surprise newcomers, etc).
But yes, I'm thinking I'm coming to at least a 1000 point plug&play army that can go with anyone and be suitably inquisitorial - especially if I can snag a greyfax *hint hint*
