I don’t go for fancy rocks but for cliff faces and terrain and stuff I’ve just used a dark grey, then dry brush with a light grey then a very light dry brush with white. Edit the original dark grey colour slightly for different rock colours (for instant I’ve used a rust red colour and done a heavy dry brush before the highlight dry brush).

Really depends on the scheme mate, but base->drybrush lighter->drybrush near white is pretty standard and relatively easy.

I like to paint them white, apply various dots of brown, yellow, green, and grey oil paints and then use an old rag to wipe it off.

I saw this video not that long ago and was amazed at the detail and realism in a few simple steps. Well worth a watch even for other parts of the scenery.

Yeah. Too bad less useful for wargaming probably as those don't look like they would deal well with rigours of gaming but damn it looks great.

Also our games are heavily cityfight so less opportunities for that kind of terrain but maybe 30k realm still has parks...

No, I don't suppose it would

I put it there more for the techniques that were employed to do the detailing in the terrain as it looked incredibly simple to apply to bases regardless of what material is used

Ironically, the only part that looks completely fake in that IS the rock.

I'd always recommend adding some brown or beige into rock. Mechanicus Standard Grey, Agrax Earthsade wash, Drybrush Mech Standard, then Steel Legion Drab, then Screaming Skull
