Has anyone done this? I'm getting some Dark Imperium for the Death Guard and am thinking about painting the Primaris as Knights of Gryphonne, but I'd rather do a metallic orange (and maybe a metallic blue-black instead of black, but we'll see). My very first plastic space marines were very similar to KoG. I was thinking maybe one of the duller gold shades like Relictor Gold, an orange wash and maybe a flesh wash.

Also, I have a full pot of original GW Orange Ink to mess with, but I'd love to see if anyone's done anything like I've suggested.

Well, I tried orange ink over several metallics, and it's not good - the bright ink settles in the crevices, which really isn't the desired effect. Now I'm thinking maybe a zenithal gold airbrush spray over an orange painted model, followed by a flesh wash.

I've found that 3 or so thin washes over leadbelcher gives a solid metallic colour.

Been commonly using it for greens but recently started a 30k EC army using metallic purple.

This is something I did a few years back for a "Warped Paint Challenge" my local GW ran. We reached our hands into a bucket, grabbed random paints and had to work from there.
I drew Cassandora Yellow and Fuegan Orange washes, along with Hashut Copper, Ogryn Camo, a purple which I can't remember now, and Astronomicon Grey.

Nowhere near my best work but this is what Hashut Copper looks like with a heavy wash of Fuegan Orange while the rocks and crystals were hit with Cassandora Yellow instead. Speed-painted over the course of a caffeine-fueled night of "what model do I want to do?!" and well...that's what happened.
The orange definitely can pair well with a warm coppery color so you should be able to get the effect you want.

Definitely closer to what I'm looking for, thank you!. Doing some web searching I found that Reaper has a 'Coppery Orange" paint color (9102) that may just fit the bill.
