Hi, I’d appreciate some comments & feedback on this list. I really liked the storm of Iron book back in the day and have an Iron warriors army. I’ve tried to make use of the Iron Warriors unique warlord trait (fearless bubble) and ignore cover “chapter tactic”. The goal of the list is to be fluffy and robust for club games. I’d like to have a decent shot in most games!

Iron Warriors Brigade

Chaos Lord (Warlord – Cold & Bitter, Fleshmetal Exoskeleton, Combi Bolter) = 76pts
Dark Apostle (Power Maul) = 76pts
Chaos Lord (Combi Bolter) = 76pts

9 Khorne Berserkers = 144pts
Rhino (2 Combi Bolters) = 74pts

10 Khorne Berserkers = 160pts
Rhino (2 Combi Bolters) = 74pts

10 Khorne Berserkers = 160pts
Rhino (2 Combi Bolters) = 74pts

10 Cultists (Autoguns) = 40pts
10 Cultists (Autoguns) = 40pts
10 Cultists (Autoguns) = 40pts
10 Cultists (Autoguns) = 40pts
10 Cultists (Autoguns) = 40pts
10 Cultists (Autoguns) = 40pts

3 Chaos Bikers (4 Combi-Bolters, 2 Chainswords, Mark of Slannesh) = 77pts
3 Chaos Bikers (4 Combi-Bolters, 2 Chainswords, Mark of Slannesh) = 77pts
3 Chaos Bikers (4 Combi-Bolters, 2 Chainswords, Mark of Slannesh) = 77pts

5 Havocs (2 Heavy Bolters, Mark of Slaanesh) = 85pts

9 Havocs (4 Plasma Guns, 1 Combi Plasma, Mark of Slannesh) = 184pts
Rhino (2 Combi Bolters) = 74pts

10 Havocs (4 Plasma Guns, 1 Combi Plasma, Mark of Slannesh) = 197pts
Rhino (2 Combi Bolters) = 74pts

Total = 1999pts

Warlord babysits Cultists. Bikes and Rhinos clear chaff screens. Plasma havocs handle whatever Berzerkers can’t easily deal with. I’m banking on overheated Plasma+vets of the long war+ endless cacophony to kill tanks. I think that is more effective then melta?

I couldn’t find a way to fit a sorcerer in without a lot of tweaking. Points are really tight in a chaos brigade!

Well, I'd take Havocs with lascannons for anti-tank (say, against LRBTs with T8).
This is what your army is lacking.

Instead of taking the bikers and extra combi on rhinos, you could try to fit some raptors w/ meltas. You could also get rid of the rhinos for the havocs and give them some long ranged weapons, that should give you enough points for a sorcerer I think.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the input! I'd like to keep it mechanised as possible. I have put some thought into replacing the 3 bike squads with spawn, as it saves a heap of points and allows the small heavy bolter squad to be upgraded to 3 Obliterators and one of the lords to a sorcerer. What I don't like about that is - spawn gain nothing from the IW tactic and don't add too much, where the bikes do allot more.

hmmm, I think having a big horde of 40 cultists is better than having lots of small units of 10 cultists. Because that 40 cultists would benefit from the tide of traitors strategem.

That’s true! Ideally I’d have one unit of 40 and maybe two 10 man squads, at the moment they are purely for screening. Maybe the brigade is a stretch? Chaos seem very Command point hungry though which is the logic behind the brigade.

This doesn't seem quite mechanized, theres 3 rhinos and a ton of bikes.

That said, looks pretty good; if you wanna go more mechanized, Predators, Daemon Engines, etc. would be a good fit. I'd personally go more for Battalion than Brigade size; mostly because you HAVE to fill out a FOC basically, and taking sub-optimal units to fill slots isn't as good as picking great units

Thanks Zid for the feedback, yeah I’m toying whether the brigade is worth the stretch. I like all the units in the list, but some would be better consolidated (cultists as pointed out by elden).

Oh and there is 5 Rhinos, everyone who is somebody gets a rhino or bike, bar the small havoc squads who are probably not feeling the love after getting left with the meatshields (cultists)!

Ah I missed the Havocs with Rhinos!

Yes, Cultists work better in larger squads for anything thats not a Death-guard zombie list that doesn't care if you kill the cultists (actually, they welcome it). Units of 40 with the strategem are pretty awesome. I'm not sure what your unit choice is or what pool of models you have to grab from, but a dual-battalion with Death Guard could work (because they have Plagueburst Crawler tanks which fit awesomely into this) or Renegades (running some renegade ad-mech tanks)... you have a lot of ways to take this, unless you want to stay purely within the CSM codex. If thats the case I would make the following changes:

1) Cut Havoc squads down to 5 men, make two units dual-plas + combi-plas suicide squads in rhinos. Last squads obviously your ranged cover.
2) Cut the bikers
3) Consolidate the cultists into 2 squads of 40, then run a unit of Chaos Space Marines kitted w/ ranged weapons (meltas, plasma, whatever you want) and stick them in a rhino
4) Cut down to 2 Zerker squads, both 9 man, one with chaplain and other with the lord, both in rhinos
5) With all the free points, buy some toys to have fun with... mech lists need moar tanks!

Wish I had my dex nearby and I could give you better ideas, but this is sticking purely iron warriors, and I'm sure your attempting to maximize the legion benefits

Thanks Zid for the comments, much appreciated. I have a range of chaos Space Marine models so I’m fairly flexible on the model side.

After two smaller size games with chaos (first games since 4th ed with them!) I’m starting to see why everyone takes a sorcerer and a big blob of cultists. The army is also Command point heavy! Presents some list design challenges.
