So the golden legion is getting a full scale release (pretty excited), but I'm curious, what are terminators going to bring to the table?
Custodes already have a 2+ Sv and a 5+ invuln
So aside from deep strike I'm not sure what these guys can add.
I know there was a 30k release of them but I have no idea what they do there or if they are going to be a same

Terminators will have problably +1A, +1W, and 4++ or maybe even 3++. And some heavier weapons like those halberds, maybe.

The problem is that Custodes need SoS to work well because they are EXTREMELY vulnerable to MW and psychic powers. A shame SoS aren't gonna be in the new adeptus custodes codex (I assume)

Dey are supa dupa and hav laser eyes and can fly and have suppa stwenght and are betta dan anyting in da universe! Each one is basically just a genetic hybrid of Sly Marbo and da Emperor.

Difference between terminator armour and custodian armour in 30k: Custodian armour is softer(5++ vs 4++) and have move through cover. Also big guns compared to lighter weapons on spear of custodian.

2+/5++ does not one terminator make. If it did marine commander in artificer armour and iron halo would be terminator!

The 30k rules for the Aquilon have a Lastrum storm bolter, twin adrathic destructor, or Infernus firepike on the gun hand and a Solarite power gauntlet/power talon on the melee hand, they're going to bring non-crap ranged output and the ability to engage T6+ models in melee over the Custodian Guard.

And a 4++. Definitely a 4++. Possibly 4 Wounds in 8th, but they had the same wound count as the normal Guards in 30k so maybe not.

Nope. Just saw the pictures of the plastic box. The grenade launcher labeled on the box could be some non-crap ranged output, though. Still predicting a 4++, though.

Not untrue but I hope these guys bring some badass guns to the table otherwise I don't see myself grabbing them

I remember back in the day when they first gave terminators 5++ saves because they were found too weak with just a 2+ save. Wonder if one of these days they will turn terms into 2+/4++?

Having said that, idk how I feel about custodies getting a codex. Would rather see sister of battle. . .

Well they seem to bring some sort of grenade launcher but is that 1 per 3 or all is yet unclear as are stats. Also new h2h weapon so wouldn't surprise me if the GW would just make them even better at h2h.

That's cataphractii terminator. If basic termies go to 4++ then those need to go to 3++ and stormshields to 2++.

Please, no more 2++ in 8e

I think regular Termies need to be T5 2+ 5++. They need to be able to more easily shrug off small arms fire.

I think seeing these guys as "just terminator custodes" would be like viewing death shroud as "terminator plague marines" I suspect they'll be a vetern bodyguard unit

A lot still depends on their army trait too. We've yet to see and can hardly even speculate what it will be at this point.

I remember, back int he day, when terminator 2+ save was taken on 2D6 and the dice roll was added together. So unless you had a save modifier to the weapon, a terminator would save, and even a LasCannon stood a chance of being resisted without an inv save.

It was 3+ on 2d6. Lascannons were -6, so about the same odds as a 5++. Terminators have never worked in tbe crunch to my knowledge.

They'll be expensive, slow, and get crushed by numbers like everything else. Except you'll have even less of them, so it'll happen even faster. There's not really any niche to fill here.

people will buy the custodes for one of two reasons.

1: the fill a role in a "soup" list (a patrol detachment of custodes might be handy in an IG list, for example)
2: because they like the minis and or the fluff


I agree, an army like the custodes is NOT by itself gonna likely be able to be a TAC army. but for those who like it, it'll be fun

I seriously doubt that the new Custodes will be able to provide anything of value to an IG list. They've already got big beefy elite beatsticks covered in the form of Ogryn variants, and those things are nasty.

I feel at this point terminators should get a reroll on their save to be vaguely relevant.

Anyway, I expect the Custodes Terminators to get the 4++ from 30k, and get +1W over the regular Custodes.

Paladins worked pretty well in 5th for grey knights (when I took time off from 40k, still bitter about that). Terminators were good in the very beginning of 6th after the change to power weapons made them immune to a lot of the CC that used to kill them and before shooting took an exponential increase in effectiveness as we got closer to 7th ed. So terminators were good for a few months.

Which just means you need mortal wounds instead, which means more MWs floating around, and so on it creeps.

I'd rather give folks more wounds. It's more bookkeeping, but I can live with that to get the "easy to hurt, hard to kill" effect working right.

Regardless of the effectiveness of the termies the plastic custodes bikers look awesome and I shall be getting those for sure! lol
