As far as the fluff aspect to this rule would it make more sense to only be able to use the strategem for units that have suffered casualties? For example an Ork unit that suffers any unsaved wounds may mob up with another Ork unit of the same type.

I mean... what's unfluffy about two groups of orks moving in the same general direction being treated as one group instead? When it comes to talking fungus monsters whose vehicles move faster based on their paint scheme, counting two groups of 30 as one group of 60 is one of the things that challenges my suspension of disbelief the least.

I feel like I must be missing something.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Why not just have units of 60 boyz to start out with? 90 even? 200? Why be limited to mobbing up only 2 units at a time? Hell you should be able to mob up every unit you have on the table as one gigantic unit right? Flash gitz with grot squads & Stompas with Flyers!

At the end of the day you can't and wouldn't fit the fluff as far as the RULE is concerned.

When Orks are in large groups they have a sense of invincibility. When they are in small groups (especially as a result from being outgunned or outfought) they are prone to have low morale and they hightail out of there. Yet when they see a large group of fellow Orks kicking butt and taking names they want to mob up with them which instantly boosts their confidence and so are willingly absorbed into said unit.

I just feel the rule would have more impact if it were used in times of desperation but that's just me.

Perhaps fluff-wise but not in terms of tabletop rules.

Why wouldn't it make sense as a tabletop rule?

Cause you could form a mega unit and than teleport 200 boyz across the table turn one.

Solved by putting an upper limit on the number of models you can jump

also since there is no mechanic to ever split the units again its not a huge issue really
