So there's been a announcement for a squad merc for Necromunda.

Anyway I thought these guys were wiped out, and is there really that much interest in squats? They seem really lackluster to me compared to other factions. Personally I hope it's just the one model

As someone who remembers Squats from the Rogue Trader days, they were very thematic but it's a theme that doesn't fit well in the modern more serious universe. If GW could make it work I would be all over a Squat army.

40k: Space Marines (Rift Wardens) - 8050pts.
T9A: Vampire Covenants 2060pts.

The phrase "if GW can make it work" is worth squat.

Squats deserve a resurrection. In 2020, after sisters are in plastic and the ork line gets an update and the IG get some updates let us not forget emperor's children and world eaters need deathguard level updates. Maybe some new space monkey bikes..

Hmm 2020 seems to soon maybe 2030

This is something I can kinda get behind. If there's enough demand GW is going to make it. But there are too many current factions that need updates to justify releasing a new faction

I'd rather see Demiurg, their ships are more interesting and the old concept art looked cool.

I think they're kinda dumb, but if other people are excited by them, great. Curious whether the hype is due to their status as a meme at this point, but there's no way to really answer that question.

More or less this, or even a merging of the two. If nothing else, Demiurg have a lot of potential to create some interesting opportunities for "Xenos Soup".

I always thought Tau was the rebooted version of squats?

Demiurg=squat They are the same race GW just changed the squat's name due to copyright issues.

I sincerely doubt that GW will bring back "Squats" (see above). They may make a solo for Necromunda called a demiurg just to have a abhuman race show up.

Releasing a squat unit that can be taken as part of a guard army (in the same way as ogryns) would be a sensible next step to test the water.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

nope. While squats did have exosuits, they were like Terminators+. The rest of the army was a mix of imperial-guard like troops and bikes/trikes.

Tau are essentially stereotyped Japanese (Fir Warriors = Ashiguru, Crisis Suits = Samurai, and lately, mecha). Squats were space dwarves/bikers.

It never ends well

I think it makes sense. it wouldn't take much to make Kharadron Overlords work in 40k, and Custodes are essentially Sigmarines in space. And all those models are selling like powdered cocaine in Iggy Pops tourbus. Why not repeat the succes with Demiurgs?

Squats aren't coming to 40k. There's so many AMAs and interviews and stuff out there explaining why they failed as a faction and there's no impetus to ever bring them back.

GW have shown a willingness of late to mix things up though, to throw the community a bone. The mere acknowledgement that Squats ever existed is a big step forward for company relations.

What we are getting here, as far as I can see, is a single Necromunda character that is a Squat. If that is the case, that's pretty damn cool. But I wouldn't expect any more than that.

I would love the squats to come back, but we don't need more imperial forces when sisters are still not in plastic.

Well, according to the video it is literally 5 minutes to plastic sisters

I also remember Squats from the old days and found them really camp and quirky.

I agree that they don't really fit in a semi-sensible universe.

They are from an age of 40k when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the best thing ever. We are currently in an age of 40k where GOT is where it's at. Now isn't the time, not in their old incarnation anyway.

Right, but the clock gets reset everyone someone asks about them, so...

I still have my Epic squats up in the loft. They worked really well in Epic with their massive war machines but they couldn't do those kind of items in 40K back then. Now we have things like stompas and Knights in 40K, I can't really see why Squats couldn't be done properly.

I loved my bike & trikes. Rushing up the field flanking Orks and charging in with exo clad little dudes.

All GW has to do is remove or tone down some of the campy stuff. the aesthetic of the Kharadron &new Grombrindal is pretty much spot on for how they should look in "new" 40k. Master craftsmen and robust tech.

o and for the people saying that Squats are a new faction they don't know what they're talking about. Yes sisters should get some love but I would rather have Squats over them, I will buy both if they ever do make them tho.

I would like to see the Squat but for the Chaos. Similar to the concept of Chaos Dwarfs with old Squats becoming stone and worshiping chaos and common soldiers like heretics. A kind of Imperial Guard but focused on Squats pissed off by having been abandoned by the Empire.

I wouldnt be supprised if we got a single box like ratlings or ogryns with some gimic like they mine a squad in for deep strike and have demo charges or somthing silly.

Would be supprised at anything beyond that

Haha, I remember these guys space hells angels dwarfs. They'd have to look a fair bit different now, they were very camp before (in line with the rest of the range at the time).

I briefly considered collecting some in second but soon gave up on that idea when realised I'd have to direct order all the lead bits without one of the new shiny plastic monopose troops boxes that were just coming out.

I they decided to recreate squats, then I would hope it would be as a standalone faction, rather than another ingredient in either the imperium or chaos soups.

Absolutely GW could turn Squats back into a viable army. They have an opportunity to rethink completely how they operate in the current 40K scene. It won't be the old Squats by a longshot,
