No, this is a misunderstanding in 8th edition. Our stuff is actually more expensive than most marine stuff. Even before the marine codex our long range weapons are worse yet some how equal to or the same price as marine weapons. Our trukks cost more than rhinos. The stompa is 900-1100pts (no joke). Our deff dreads cost about the same as a dreadnought.... and so on... it's the reason why anything but boyz isn't competitive to players. But this is a discussion for the ork nerf thread.

I am more than happy for people to send just a letter telling them they should focus on Orks more (or even a faction they don't see too much). The Boyz thing was just for Ork players. It's like every tribe sending a boy a way to help the poor Orks at GW who never get to Waaagh.

If you send them exclusively boyz, they'll end up with a competitive army and think that orks are fine as is.

Maybe I should interupt the WarhammerTV stream with my offering, get some good TV coverage for our plight.

Good. On reddit we got over 300 up votes I think with lots of support. But the bolt and chainsword people seem to not get it. They genuinely think we're idiots who believe GW will actually use the models to make an army... clearly didn't even bother to read the full post... it's not about giving GW actual help (they can walk 2 feet and open their own box of boyz) It's about sending a message that Ork players feel left out and it's a but of fun to bring the community together! Well let's leave them out! If this gets some traction then they'll miss out, if it doesn't then so what. They'll never know.

No, its not that us people on the B&C don't get it, its that we think its a bad idea. Or at least the two of us that responded to the post do. There is no part of my brain that thinks GW would use these models, and yes, we did read the post. What my brain thinks is that the Ork community as a whole needs to quit feeling left out when we haven't even gotten a release date for our codex yet. How can you sit here and feel left out, and organize a campaign to send in Ork models to GW, when there are other armies besides is that also don't have a codex yet, and we have no idea what is going to be in ours? I get that it sucks that Orks can really only run mass boys lists right now. I play mechanized Ork myself. But we literally have zero clue what will be in our dex. It could be fantastic. What it -will- be at minimum is better than the index, and given the index is better than anything Orks have received since 3rd/4th edition, I'm not seeing why the Ork community should be so up in arms that they think sending in models to GW is warranted. Look, my post on the B&C sums it up best. Agree or disagree, this is my opinion:
Honestly, think about it. You're a company that produces miniatures and wargaming material. You have released more codex's, FAQs, Errata, and miniatures in the last year than ever before. Your company has taken a complete 180 degree turn from the direction they were in a year ago. Despite all of these things, you now have a portion of your customer base sending you plastic Orks in the mail because you decided not to put them up as an option for an Adepticon poll. How then would you be inclined to treat that particular customer base?
Sending GW a bunch of Orks in the mail is not going to accomplish anything. If anything, it will just further drive a wedge between them and the Ork community. Its bad enough we don't heve anyone working at GW that truly knows Orks. Starting what I would consider a rude badgering campaign against GW will likely just make them quit taking the Ork community seriously. I swear, the whining from Ork players in general is as bad as the Chaos community was back during 7th edition. If other Ork players are tired of it already, Im sure GW is too. So imagine how well its going to go over with them when they receive a bunch of random Orks in the post. Probably not very well. -You- may mean it to be all in good fun, but -they- will likely not receive it that way. There is this saying that goes "perception is reality." I would be inclined to perceive receiving my own products in the mail poorly, not constructively.
Like I said, the best way to enact change is to be active in the community and give GW solid feedback about what works, what doesn't, and what we want/need. Not throwing what Im sure GW will see as a hissy fit via postbox <_<
And I stand by that opinion. Regardless of the quality of the paintjob, or how funny or lighthearted your letter will be, I doubt GW is going to take it that way. Its childish and unneeded. What would be better would be the Ork community coming together and creating constructive and well thought out feedback on units and mechanics that Orks need to see with the codex and then sending it in via the official email they made specifically for that purpose. But no, lets just send in Ork models and a cheeky letter instead of doing something that is both professional and impactful as a community.

@Kaldoth - The premier 40k xenos army, which has been a classic space marine enemy (since the beginning of Rogue Trader and beyond), has less Studio points dedicated to it than Imperial/Dark Eldar counterparts - it's a travesty for the oldest and most populous 40k race (in fluff and in players);
It's not about actually building GW an army - it's about building a community; and in what better way is there to show GW that Ork players are still here, then to mob up in a traditional boy fashion, and have each warlord throw a model in to support the Waaagh!.
At the end of the day, provided all the models end up in the same location after all is said and done, they'll be likely to group all of the donated Orks into one big warband, and take a picture - it'd make a great community outreach/coming together opportunity; plus a great lead-in to the Ork Codex previews when they do start showing up.
It's not about physically building GW an army, it's about building GW a community - and showing them that we're here, and having a good time regardless of how things go - simply, it's for a laugh, and some fun; for GW, and for the community.

Firstly, we have for many years being sending plenty of suggestions to GW regarding Orks and so far have had little to no feedback to suggest any of it got through or even is cared by GW. To even suggest the index is better than anything for nearly 15+ years is like hanging a grot upside down and shooting at him and saying "well, at least he is not being tore apart like every other grot before him". Look at CA for an example. There was little there to give hope to the Ork community and I don't need to go down the countless threads that have discussed the problems in that book regarding Orks. I don't know how any Ork player can sit there for that amount of time and still give their trust to GW. I for one am shocked this is such a positive movement to help relievesome of the stress of the Ork community.
Hoever, this has nothing to do with the campaign. Moreover, this is not a response to the codex not having a date. That is not mentioned once anywhere in the post. If anything this is one of two things. First, it's a community event to build excitement and support for Orks. Bring everyone together to tell stories about what they sent, what they painted. People who have no need to paint orks are actually buying Orks and learning to paint them just to do this. We're spreading the hobby and love of Orks to people who may have never even thought about Orks before. Hell, who knows... we may even have made a few Ork players out of people because they enjoyed painting the model so much. Second, this could be more of a response to years of neglect to one of the founding factions of 40k. Again, you call this a negative movement saying we're "up in arms". I've composed and edited this post to be as positive as possible. I may personally dislike how GW have treated Orks but I have not pushed that in any way when copy and pasting this post from the organisers. I more believe the Adepticon thing was just an excuse to for the creator to just want people to paint some orks and show GW we love orks!
Secondly, you call this childish and destructive. Having a bit of a laugh using some brittish humour is not childish. Live a little and realise that having fun is for all ages. Your criticisms are based off of theoretical ideas that GW might not like us sending Orks to them in support of seeing more official Ork armies played. There is no proof this in any way will damage relations with the community. In fact, it may bring a smile to GW's face that so many people care about their products. Or, like you said, it may cause them to be angry. Who knows, but I think having a go is a great way to find out.

Read my post again.
Do you now understand that I know its not about giving GW an army, and how there are more productive ways to enact change than sending them Orks in the mail, which is a completely non-productive way to go about doing that?
If not, read my post again until it makes sense, because I literally addressed all of that numerous times.
Firstly, we have for many years being sending plenty of suggestions to GW regarding Orks and so far have had little to no feedback to suggest any of it got through or even is cared by GW. Again, I posted my opinion. I think its a bad idea, especially if its backed by British humor But hey, just as I'm allowed to voice my opinion, y'all are allowed yours. What I won't stand for is being accused of not reading or being intelligent enough to discern the intent behind this whole thing. I in no way am trying to stop anybody, nor do I have any delusions that I could even if I wanted to. At the end of the day, you're going to do what you are going to do. I just look at this and see it ending badly. I guess the best thing I could say is ask yourself what would be more likely to make the Codex a good book and get us some some updated models:
-500 Ork players coming together, penning a document (or multiple documents) discussing the various issues Ork players have, why there is this feeling of animosity and distrust towards GW, what can be done to fix it, what problems there are with Orks, what is bad in the index, what is good, what we need, what we want, etc, and then undersigning that document as a community
OR
-500 Ork players sending 500 Ork boyz in the mail
Sorry, but I err on the side of professionalism.

Why are you getting all defensive? I never said you weren't intelligent. I was just trying to assure you the real reason why it was happening in case you were negative because you just thought it was a bunch of people venting their frustration and not a genuine cause to get Ork players together for something. Because I genuinely see nothing wrong with the community doing this. You're actually making me feel a bit defensive like I need to prove to you I'm not an idiot.
And ask yourself honestly this... why can't we do both campaigns? Feel free to start your own campaign to gather a large document to send to GW. I wouldn't be against that idea.
And please don't use the get 'out of jail free card': "it's my opinion". There is a difference between opinion and just being rude. You could have happily gone "Here is my criticisms and concerns... but I wish you the best of luck anyway". But you just went on and decided to call us "childish" and unprofessional. Forgive me if I don't feel taken back by this unnecessary insult towards something that has picked up a lot of positive momentum.
I guess here is my opinion (I wanted to hold this off because you'll probably twist it and use it against me like a lot of people do here but... here we go): It just seems very bitter. It reminds me of when my mate was attacked for hosting charity events to help raise awareness for prostate cancer and the people would tell her she would be of more help if she got a medical degree and actually tried to find a cure. Then they would walk off and not actually do anything themselves... But I wish you the best of luck and genuinely hope this encourages you to make your own campaigns to help improve Orks. Any movement looking to change Orks positively is a good movement and will likely have my support.

lolman1c wrote:Why are you getting all defensive?
I'm not being defensive, nor was it my intention to make anyone else feel the need to be defensive. Text on a webpage often loses inflection and tone when read. Seriously, that wasn't my intention, nor did I have any intention to be rude. So, in that regard I do apologize However, I am a very blunt person, and I always will be. I think sending GW a bunch of Orks in the mail is very childish and an ill conceived way of making changes. Positive momentum and a community of players coming together is usually good. When it isnt good is when it comes together to do something that will likely move them further away from what they want, which is a competitive and fun Codex that reflects the true character of Orks and some good model kits that give us the freedom to loot and convert like Ork players have always loved doing.
To answer your question of "why not both," to that I don't have an answer. Actually, if everyone sending these models off enclosed a copy of something the Ork community came up with as a group in regards to balancing our dex and updating our units, I feel like that would work quite well. Its still taking a shot at GW and having a bit of fun, but also reinforces the fact that Ork players are a community of people who all care about our army and want to see it done right when the dex finally drops because multiple copies of the same player-made document would be sent in with it. On its own, sending in models to GW with some cheeky letters still seems like a bad idea to me. However, after reading your last response and reflecting on my own thinking, I suppose that a wall of text saying "Ork players are mad because x, give us y, get rid of z" spanning several pages would likely be skimmed and tossed aside without any way to prove everyone who undersigned it actually took part in creating it. Documents are always boring, and I will admit while I don't like the idea, sending GW Orks in the mail does have shock value.
Again, apologies if I came off as rude or disrespectful. Not my intention. Just voicing my opinion.

TBH, if you had just said this I wouldn't have become defensive. And in fact I like this and will even be adding it to an edited version of the post. I think it's good if we encourage people to send suggestions as well!

Rather than sending in separate suggestions, I think it would be better if some people from the online Ork community actually came together one day before the post day for your Ork models and hashed out a document that addressed the issues Ork players have currently. The reason I say this is it is very easy for Joe in the U.S. to send in an Ork and say "Ork nobs need to be T5, not T4" and for Jim to send in a letter saying "Ork nobs need to be 3+, not 4+." IE, if many people from many different parts of the world were all sending in the exact same sheet of paper with their signature at the bottom of it, that would let GW know that "Hey, this is what we ALL want," rather than having to sift through a bunch of one-off suggestions about specific units and the like. I know I'd be willing to sit down and hash something like that out with other players from around the world for a few hours on a weekend.
Edit: Then again, getting the Ork community together is a bit like herding grots. Sooooo who knows if that would even be possible

I would suggest doing a thread on Dakka Dakka for that or on the Ork Da WAAAAGH forums. Please feel free to do it 1 week before and send me the PDF and I'll make sure to send it.

This reminds me of the time someone had the idea that to show gw that sisters should be updated everyone should buy sisters models on a regular period to promote updating the army.
I say: go for it. If you're familiar with their track record and think spending more money will fix the problems: hey it's your money, do what you will.
I won't be participating. But don't let that stop you.

GW is a business. Though I appreciate the lighthearted, possibly comedic idea of sending a Boy to GW so they can drum up enough points to play 4k at Adepticon, the best way to get them to pay attention to the playerbase is to do exactly what SOB players have done for the past 10 years - complain.
Their recent actions have proven that they are listening and considering comments from the community.
Make your opinions on our lack of codex, lack of new models and anything else you're upset about known publicly on their facebook group. Support others who share your opinion and do the same. This is the only way we will get heard.

Haha! I know right! Someone goes "This Sisters players never get anything so I doubt you will" And boom! Sisters of Battle are announced! This gives me a lot of hope for this campaign! Well i do expect people to place their concerns and suggestions in the letter alongside the boy. People think we're just sending them boyz but it's more the boy comes alongside the letter.
