How do you fix it? Easy - you cost weapons based on their ability to hit. Otherwise a higher BS platform is always going to be the best option. You can also dramatically lower the price of options with worse BS to get the same effect.

They already do this. Characters just get a small benefit. Commanders more so, because they can take so many...which is partly why they are now limited.

I'm not a fan of making crisis suits BS3+ (for mostly flavor reasons), but they do need to justify their cost somehow. Maybe give them some sort of JSJ, a points reduction, improved markerlight support, something.

I don't think it's going to happen, though. GW has already sold hordes of them and doesn't need to as much, so they don't need competitive rules.

They've also sold hordes of vindicators last edition. That didn't stop them from dropping it's price twice. They sold tons of Riptides. Still dropped their price.

Crysis suits are indeed too expensive to be competitive. Hordes are gona be quite effective though. Besides, it's still quite possible to spam commanders using min squads of drones for example. We'll see how it goes. I'd not expect to meet tau at top tables too often, however.

What kind of flavor reason are you referring to? The part where tau have the most advanced technology in the galaxy? Yet a robot with an advanced targeting system is less accurate than an imperial guard veteran? come on man.

I have no idea why commanders have bs2 if crysis suits can't have bs3

Here's your technology. I don't see guardsmen having access to these things.

Spoiler:

Too bad suits don’t get any of those base.

And none of it increases your chance of hitting.

In a Trayzn pokeball

And about half of it is overcosted or bad (looking at you multi-tracker). Some of it's really good though, like the velocity tracker.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Yeah, none of it. Target lock definitely doesn't affect hitting with those weapons, neither does multi-tracker. And Counterfire definitely doesn't help your chances of hitting on overwatch.

And no, Tau don't have the most advanced tech in the galaxy...I don't know what lore you're reading. I like the idea of Tau having worse base shooting but using technology (systems, marker lights) to compensate for it. It makes them not just another 3+ to hit across the board army.

I've long argued that Suits(and to an extent, vehicles) should get some kind of additional benefit to Markerlight bonuses. Whether it be them getting to double out the counted Markerlight hits or (something I've been mulling over recently) getting to get an additional benefit of some kind when firing at a Markerlight target(+1 to Hit and Wound rolls instead of just +1 to Hit rolls, Seeker Missiles, Airbursting Fragmentation Projectors, and Smart Missile Systems firing automatically rather than having to be fired when a certain number of Markerlight hits are present on the target).

I really don't see how this is any different than every other army.

Tau can take a counterfire defense system - space marines can take a reroll character and it has the same effect except it also helps them shoot better - when they already shoot better. None of this makes tau stand out as an exceptional shooting army or makes their tech seem advanced.

Where tau really stand out is their ability to overwatch on 5's. Making them better at overwatch than actual shooting in many cases.
