I can also go to a fast food joint and walk out with sacks of food for what I'd pay for a single meal at a fine restaurant. Not to sound pretentious (but I'll try! ) but Arena Rex is a boutique miniature game that has large scale, highly-detailed resin models. It is apples to oranges with games like Mythic that is a board game, and uses monopose PVC minis, or a game like Shadespire, which has the infrastructure and market share of GW to make HIPS figures in large enough quantity to bring the price down. Also, aren't games like Shadespire treated as loss leaders to get people into AOS/ GW gaming? Not sure about that, but if so, it makes the price comparison even less relevant since the game is artificially priced low to entice people. Not that those games are equivalent to fast food in quality, but they are priced with a similar, mass appeal / mass production business model whereas Arena Rex is not.
Arena Rex is expensive, no doubt about it. But the models are gorgeous and if you are a painter I hear they are a joy to paint.

This idea that Arena Rex is prohibitively expensive got me thinking, so I wandered over to GW.com to check out prices on the Stormcast line. Here are the listed prices for their individual models: $25, $40, $40, $40, $35, $35, $33, $33, $30, $25, $25 (and plastic, rather than resin).
AR's comparably sized models are priced between $17 and $22 ($30 if you include the next size up).

AR models in Europe are between 23-35$, larger models are +50$
Why even compare skirmish game with GW game that is played on large scale? Where their single models are overpriced to begin with?
Feel free to jump to corvus belly infinity, which has one of the best models on market
For price of as signle arena rex model, you can almost get a box of 4 metal models with excellent quality.
Maybe to people 30$ for a single models in not much, who would have guessed, I don't consider that cheap unfortunately compared to what I can get today on market for less money.

AR would probably be way more popular if they managed to hit a good price point with some HIPS group kits, but for some extremely nicely detailed, posed, etc., well-cast resin for small forces that don't really need expansions, I'm fine with the prices. Esp. when they release the rules for free, so you're never ambushed by mechanics you don't like.

I play both so... sure? For what its worth, playing both, I will say I've spent far more on Infinity than I have on Arena Rex; and that's not taking the terrain into consideration.
I'm not sure what taxes or exchange rates are getting you to where an Arena Rex model is the same as an Infinity box. At least here, a single, small based guy is $18ish which is the 2 pack range for Infinity figures, and those figures aren't going to make up nearly as much of my final army. I mean, sure, the large base stuff is $35, but that's significantly cheaper than my new Szalamandra cost me.
Nobody has said Arena Rex cheap, just that its not unfair. Maybe its just an international pricing issue, but on the whole the models aren't really any more expensive than similar games out there. I play a lot of games and while I won't say that Arena Rex figures are cheap, I will say I've probably spent less on the game than just about anything else I play.

Im not to sure why there is a big comparison/argument with Shadespire and Rex. Its comparing apples to oranges.. I guess because its a minis skirmish/board game with cards? but there are countless games like that so....
There was a previous comment on Shadespire being cheap because its a gateway into Aos. Id disagree. I do also play AOS, but ive played that first. I know lot of guys who just buy shadespire and not since its not a heavy minis game but has a lot of the tactics and its very fast. Its nice they gave rules t othe figures but for the most part the rules are pretty bad for AoS standards so people never really use them.
As for Kingdom Death prices to compared to this game, that's pretty insane. A single KD figure is 25+, to a 17$ figure for Arena Rex. Plus KD you have to buy insane amounts more to play. To collect and play it costs thousands. Where Rex a whole army is maybe around 100 now or less? and you don't even use it all. Same miniature quality yes. But price not a chance

I'm not saying KD is cheap, but it's completely disingenuous to describe KD based on their ridiculously overpriced promo models.
The core is $400, and is completely playable on its own (unless you call probably 2-300 hours unplayable). Actual expansion (not promos) are usually 60 for an ogre-sized guy and maybe some 35mm guys, and a pile of rules; or $100-150 for oversized models that are often 4-6 sprues, plus 4-6 humans, plus hundreds of cards and a rule book. It's not cheap, but it's also not thousands to get the experience and not a balanced comparison (unless you're somehow getting more than a couple AR starters for around $100).
Also, though, honestly, the quality on game pieces is leagues apart: Arena Rex has fantastic musculature; KD does its one or two-note thing well enough.

If you're comparing apples to apples (35mm resin humans), they are priced similarly around $25 each.
The Kingdom Death : Monster core game is easily one of the best miniatures gaming values on the market today, bar none. Kingdom Death is a 4 player game, so if you would have spent $100 per player on Arex, that covers the group buy for the $400 KDM core game, except that the KDM core contains a LOT more miniatures (44 total, so $9 each) and other gaming content than what Arex would have.
To collect and play Kingdom Death, it costs $400 (much less, had you backed either of the KS, or gotten a sale order), not thousands. It's unquestionably cheaper than Warhammer, just like Arex. If you're talking about getting the expansions, none of the are strictly necessary. The KDM core has a LOT of content and replay value.

At the edge of the known world, further from Rome than any citizen had dared to go, a nomadic mercenary group was tasked with driving off a clutch of dragons that had begun preying on local inhabitants. The beasts were swift and massive, but ultimately cornered and unaccustomed to armored men who would stand and fight. Ladon, young enough to be a mere snack to the adult lizards, watched the butchering of his predators from the branches of a nearby tree. Seeing that the men had no interest in eating him, the curious juvenile began stalking them back through the jungle. Periodically the snap of a branch or rustle of undergrowth would reveal their pursuer. Night after night the young dragon slept closer and closer to camp, eventually curling up next to the fire and begging for scraps. Amused and heartened, Cato began to feed and care for the beast. As the dragon grew into his own, Cato incorporated Ladon into his fighting style and tactics, and took on the name ‘Draconis’ by long association. The legenday uncompromising will of his forbears is graven deeply in the soul of Marcus Porcius Cato. As a young Legate, Cato was captured in Cappadocia after the loss of nearly three full legions, but his ransom was refused. While political opponents at home pinned him with the title 'Serpent of the east' and had him exiled under suspicion of betraying Rome, his iron resolve to serve the Republic even in chains impressed his captors. Knowing the Roman was now homeless and had no resources to turn back upon him, the Shah released Cato to his fate. Decades later, outfitted with exotic goods and known for strange customs, the exile stalks the arenas bordering the Republic. He speaks loudly of a great rival in the east, urging all Roman citizens to prepare for the challenge of a mortal foe. Many mock him as a coward bowed under the shame of his youthful defeat, but he has proven himself a fierce and implacable warrior, and now claims the name 'Draconis' to mock those who once exiled him oh and it looks like they're running a sale (15% This sale will end on June 16th. ) on everything except the two new minis shown above

Ladon might be the most badass model in the range. He captures the loose-limbed swagger of a Komodo dragon perfectly.
And, via Facebook, AR mentioned that a bear named Ursus is coming. Awesome news, as the more beasts, the merrier IMO.

Hey guys, I adore this game. Super easy to learn, very fun. Someone else said it's has some similar feels to X-Wing which I agree with.
Movement and positioning is king here. Since there was no squadbuilder I took it upon myself to make one in excel, its in my signiture. I don't know how to code, so this is the best I could do.
Hopefully this encourages more people to build cohorts, plan the 5-6 minis they want to buy, and get into the game.
For me 5v5 felt like the sweet spot for my friends and I. If you're looking to get into it I recommend:
-Starter of your choice -$45
------------------------------------------
-Noxious OR another Gladiator from your Starter Ludus- $20
-Any other gladiator you like: $20
ORRRR
A mounted Gladiator of your choice (I recommend Cato on Ladon) $40
-------------------------------------------
So for around $85 you have enough to play for the rest of forever.
I recommend Noxious and another Gladiator for these reasons.
-Noxious is super fun and he'll let your 5 person Cohort eligable for Ludus Benefits from your starter. If you don't like Noxious make sure you grab another Gladiator from your starter to get that benefit. I recommened
-Hermes (Ludus Magnus)
-Tiet-Khebi (Morituri)
-Ywain (Legio XIII)
-Hroka (Zephyri)
-This then lets your 5th Gladiator be whatever you want.
Alternatively just buy Cato and 4 other gladiator models you like. Less cost effective, but Cato has a super cool unique "Exiles" cohort ability. Finally, beasts are awesome too, but I usually just proxy those with other models.

This is the best place to post news about the game, but there are some discussion threads in the Misc. Other Miniature Games sub-forum.
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/754508.page
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/757237.page
That area would be best for starting your own discussion thread since this thread is meant only for news and updates about the game.
Definitely start a thread over there, as discussion of the game is something plenty of people would be interested in. I haven't had the pleasure of playing AR yet, but have been collecting the models since they first hit retail (missed the KS) and love reading about people's scenarios/battles/strategies.
Once again, welcome!
