Was gonna pick up a couple of FW decal sheets as the GW decals are pretty crappy.
Has anyone had any experience of them? Are they good quality?

Sadly I'm on the same boat as you. My friend did buy a mechanicus one and said it was not worth the money at all and has used two decals from it.

Good and worth it. They're not that expensive and they have a ton of stuff on them. The only real downside is that some of them are OOP (and insanely expensive on ebay) and each sheet usually has a pretty well defined theme, so you may or may not be able to find something appropriate for your army.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I have them and they are quite nice. They have some nice detail and unusual colors like gold.

The older ones (which are mostly OOP now anyway) are OK. I've got the Imperial Guard Valkyrie sheet; it's single-colour and the decals are very think and fragile - which is a downside when they're large and of unusual shapes.
The new ones - certainly all the Horus Heresy ones - are excellent. Thicker film, so they don't tear as soon as you look at them, lovely colours and good registration.
The GW-branded A4-sized sheets are similar. At least, the one they did when the Imperial Knight was released was of similar quality to the Forge World sheets, although the designs weren't as complex.
For what it's worth, my method is:
Gloss varnish on the area. Leave to dry fully.
Trim and soak the decal on a wet palette rather than floating in water.
I use Humbrol DecalFix - brush on to the target area before applying the decal, slide it into position, dab down with a paper towel to absorb the moisture and then more DecalFix over the top - again, dabbing up the excess. Other decal solutions are available.
Gloss varnish over the top, once everything's dry.
Apply weathering if you want.
Matte varnish the whole model. The decal will look like you've painted it on.

Yeah sadly the Crimson Fists one is OOP, do they ever bring them back?

I use a similar method myself, though I like Microsol and Microset as a solution.
Thanks for the replies guys, gonna order the Blackshields sheet for my Heresy marines and see how it works out

They won't disappoint. I've bought two of the new heresy sheets and am amazed with them, they are A4 so will last me a while.
I've never heard of them bringing any back, the only way I managed to get my hands on some Red Scorpions decals was 2nd hand on ebay.

I've been pretty happy with my 30k Salamanders transfers. the normal GW ones suck, I've more than half of them tear as I'm applying them. Never had any problems with the FW decals.

They are SUPER nice. I have both World Eaters and Salamanders, and both of them blow my mind with how great they are.

I've had a few, including the last ever crimson fist one as it goes. New ones are great, older ones not so much, the fist ones were so bad fw actually sent me a box of shoulder pad upgrades as an apology for all the trouble I'd had with them, which was nice, just a shame as all 128 of the marines I'd wanted them for were already painted. That said, I'm on my second iron warrior sheet, and haven't had a problem at all, even the banner decals are easy to position.

I just wish they'd keep them in stock.
I really need some raptors decals...
