They said it early on, can't remember where. Primaris will end up replacing the range as old marines look ridiculous now, and as a business model they will obviously replace old models with what looks better plus, obviously they aren't going to get rid of all the characters we know and love.

Lord of Ultramar, regent of the Tetrachs, not a chance, Dark Imperium shows that there is little to no chance of him becoming primaris, if anything it will be mega old sculpts that they want to update, so Ezekiel etc. I think.

If you can’t provide a true source don’t claim it as truth when it’s really just speculation.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

It was said on the Warhammer Live stream before release of 8th. Whether they’ve rolled back on that, are holding off, or things are to come I don’t know. I also can’t be bothered to look through every WHLive stream to get you a link, but I watched it a lot early on and that’s where ‘Primaris upgrading’ of normal Marines was mentioned.

Calgar would seem likely, as he’s already had one mini ‘upgrade’ from power armour to blinged-out Terminator armour. They could happily do a nostalgia tour around the old 90s heroes... Dante, Azrael, Ragnar Blackmane, etc.

I'd like to see the Calgar, Dante, and Azrael get new models. I'm a sucker for their chapters though, so please excuse my bias.

Edit: More bias. I would love a Sicarius that's in plastic

Why would you not love Azraels current model? He has a magic gun.

No love for Pedro. That saddens me. I feel that his current sculpt has him halfway to being a blinged out gravis captain, but if anyone is about to take the upgrade, it would be him due to the sheer number of primaris marines he has in his chapter.

Primaris is heresy.

Guilliman saw that the Emperor's creations were flawed, so he decided to remake them as he saw fit. If this isn't exactly what Fabius Bile was doing (although Girlyman succeeded), then I don't know what heresy is anymore.

Creation of Primaris makes what the DA's done pale in comparison.

We've been down this road in many threads. Big E isn't in a position to say anything on the subject, but his last living son, and his personal guard are running around the galaxy saying "you will accept these new marines, and here is how you make more".

I think they are very much non-heretical.

It isn't exactly what Bile is doing. New Men are NOT Space Marines. They are humans 2.0.

A man makes his own personal army of heretics. A man is brought back by Xenos who also tried making Imperium 2.0. The person he claims makes him not a heretic is conveniently unable to talk. Sounds like mega heresy to me.

It's funny to me hearing people say GW won't replace their marine range when they've already done it before, twice.

Mid Rogue Trader marines were upsized and moved to the Mark 7 frowny armor. Then with 3rd edition they were upsized and tweeked. It took ages to replace the full line, for a long while 3rd edition marines were alongside 2nd edition terminators and RT rhinos.

This time is a bit different since GW is trying to have it both ways, Primaris are a new type of marine so older ones are good too.

But I expect in 5 years Primaris will far outnumber 3rd edition marine models.

As for the question at hand, GW is in a tricky spot it wants a time jump and to move the story but (AFAIK) has not killed any of its special characters. So other than the obvious Cragmar pick I don't know who they'd want to update. Maybe a BT character to move that chapter back into the limelight?

I hope they do get into killing more of them. There's plenty of instances where dead characters have rules anyways. Hell doesn't Creed still have rules even though he got poke-balled?

They didn't say they will but of course they will, I've been playing since 2nd, they have replaced armies with new technology and better sculpts many times. Why would a business not use new technology and keep the old, so what if people like the old models, has that stopped them before. They have to think about the future and their brand. If they can make better looking models they will, they are a miniature business. Making Primaris instead of just replacing the old models for true scale will either be a good decision or a bad one that will cost them. But to say that they will keep the old ones because you happen to think people like them is absurd and completely contravene good buisness practice. Why do so many players/collectors not understand that GW is a business like any other. They did it with AOS its pretty obvious that they are going to do it with 40k. Just because you like something isn't logical justification for GW going against what you like.

You're not talking about just updating a model to look better though, that would be a fine business tactic as they've done this many times before, you're talking about replacing the 40k poster boy that's been around since the beginning. Discontinuing your oldest and most loved series of models would not lead to a healthy profit.

You have to think about the future but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to drop a product that has brought steady revenue for 30+ years.

Not to mention killing off profitable HH line.

It’s going to be Dante. He will do it to try and ensure he becomes the “golden warrior” who will defend the emperor from the forces of chaos. When he finally does kick the bucket, Sanguinius will finally be reborn!

Just kidding but we all know that GW is bringing Sanguinius back at some point via Dante’s sacrifice.

I think their will be new characters. I don't think they will convert any of the current ones.

We already see named Lieutenants. (Well, naming the models without being named in the rules)

Didn't he received backing from the woman who got wings, halo and immortality thanks to the Emperor's gift? Nice bait here, but first part is completely wrong due to Emperor giving Corax blueprints for primaris 0.8b version during HH, the second part is completely wrong due to leader of the Custodes making public announcement to High Lords that this is in fact what the Emperor ordered. Middle, well, goes so far beyond the wrong it can't even. Can you please go back to 4chan or something?

The emperor giving corax the primarch goo in no way justifies guiliman ordering the creation of primaris AFTER the emperor was put on the throne, while primaris are not heretics, they were created by a HERETECH, something the ad mech are not happy about.

By the same token several BL authors were asked this thread's same question on social media and they said they were told specifically not to write about that.

So in essence, no one knows if it was confirmed or not.

I can see Blood Angels or their descendants being the first to upgrade someone, if that’s still the direction GW wants to go. Due to their long lives and their search for a cure for their flaws thier Sanguinary priests probably have more knowledge of how gene seed works than an average apothicary from another chapter. You can’t cure something until you know whats wrong so they’ve probably extensively studied both their own and other non BA descended chapters Gene Seed in exacting detail.

So if it’s a new and dangerous procedure I can see BA being the first to have the confidence to go ahead. Having said that though there are other chapters known for their apothecaries.

Also I believe GW will pick someone based on sales reasons not in universe logic, then they will work backwards to jusify it, probably by wounding them and saying the only way to cure them is by upgrading to Primaris. So I’m going to bet the first marine upgraded will be a Space Wolf, probably Ragnar.

All this supposes GW will be upgrading normal marines, they said it was possible in that livestream but have been suspiciously silent ever since.
