Hard to say. I think the shirts have been around. I doubt they'll split the Ork book. Most likely it's like the Necron rumors that turned into Forgebane. Orks will get a 'Kult of Speed' box set (possibly campaign) along with a new book.

To be honest it would be awesome and really drag 40k back into the grim dark Orkiness if the Orks go back to Armageddon in full and actually win. Like I'm talking just blow up the entire planet kinda win so the fireworks inspire Orks throughout the galaxy as a green beacon of WAAAAAAGH pushes through the cosmos.

Blow it up? Oh you're not thinking big enough. Remember that Armageddon is actually Ullanor, homeworld of the Beast. And he was infamous for building attack moons...

Captain Charkon felt the faint shudder of the aft pulse batteries firing commendably quickly after he had given the order to fire. He logged a quick subroutine in his cerebral implant to have the gun crews grog ration increased by 5% for the week. Below, the planet of eternal war, Armageddon, barely noticed the impact of yet another bombardment. Indeed, even Charkon's augmetic eyes strained to make out the location of the impact craters that marked the place where his ship's weapons had just obliterated an Orkoid camp. Armageddon had borne such wounds before, and would doubtless do so again.

Charkon was interrupted in his musings by a sudden call from across the bridge. He noted that the servitors near the navigator's capsule were jerking into life, spilling a rapid stream of data into the ship's cogitators. One of the crew members stationed nearby was looking around with a worried look on his face, catching the captain's gaze and remembering to salute a few seconds late. Charkon's subroutines automatically assigned the hapless crewman three cycles on lavatorial detail for this lapse before the man had a chance to speak. "Captain sir, registering a massive build-up of energy on the southern continent. Sensors read it as consistent with a teleportarium."

Just as Charkon was looking into the data streams to verify the statement, a gigantic green light suddenly illuminated the bridge windows. Automatic polarization spread across the armourglass in response to the intense light, but Charkon’s eyes could still see, and had his heart still been flesh and blood it doubtless would have frozen at the sight. A vast ball of light was expanding out into space, accompanied by a shockwave that spread across the southern continent, cracking the ground apart. As the captain watched, appalled, the shockwave reached an Imperial Hive and a split second later, the impossibly ancient and vast arcology was gone, consumed by a wall of pure energy more than ten times its height.

Warning signals were already blaring in from across the planet, flooding the bridge with distress calls and panicked screams. Out of the data-stream, Charkon was able to discern that the energy blast had indeed been caused by a teleportation event, but one on a scale never before seen. Untold numbers of Orks were being reported spilling out in the wake of the terrible shockwave, along with scattered reports of earthquakes planet-wide. Charkon assigned one of his subroutines to send all off-duty crew to their action stations, struggling with the data stream that screamed into his synapses.

A strangled cry from one of his officers tore his attention back to the bridge once more. The man was staring out of the armourglass, pointing down towards the planet with a shaking arm. Charkon had already demoted the man for unseemly behaviour in the time it took him to focus on what the officer was pointing at, but then his eyes beheld the spectacle. With one quivering hand, the captain reached up and switched off his data-stream connection. Nothing it would give him would match what he could see with his two eyes.

Across the surface of Armageddon, vast structures were appearing. Continent sized chunks of earth were breaking away, like a shell, revealing impossible stretches of metal. Gun batteries the size of hive spires jutted out of the metallic oceans, surrounded by hectares of armour plating. The whole planet’s surface was being stripped away in the wake of the shockwave, revealing an entire sphere of metal. As Charkon watched, the last remnants of Armageddon’s crust fell away, vaporised into space, leaving behind only the terrible edifice. The data stream, which had been flooding into the monitors all around him, fell silent.

For the briefest moment, all was still.

Then the planet spoke.

Continent sized pieces of metal began to slide across Armageddon’s new surface, opening into a jagged, leering smile. Inside that dreadful maw could be seen the very interior of the planet, causing the mouth to glow with a terrible light. Above the rift two immense portals opened, both also openings into the planet’s core. As Charkon watched, he wanted to tear his eyes away, but terror held him firm, terror and a dreadful desire to witness what was to come. All at once, one entire side of the planet now resembled nothing less than a gigantic Ork face, burning with daemonic fires. And as he stared into that titanic effigy, it spoke.

The words crashed into the ship like a wave of pure force. Every com channel, every speaker burst into life, screaming the phrase out. Somehow his data-implant had been reactivated and Charkon heard the phrase in every part of his mind, the words reverberating inside his skull, obliterating his mental connections and searing out every synapse. All he could see, all he could think, were the words.

Actually will probably drop because I'll have to sell my models and only stick to 1 codex so never buy the new models. I'm not made of money and I'll have to prove to gw that by voting with my wallet.

The very least you can draw from this that someone on the team seems to be enthusiastic about orks. In my book, that's a good thing.

I'd also wager that people working on the ork codex (which they should be right now if we are getting the rumored summer release) have a lot more orks on their mind than usual. Remember all the guard men fluff they threw out just before their codex hit?

Also, what's wrong with going insane? We'll just chain you down with a couple of gretchin to hold you and point you in the general direction of the enemy and gitz we don't like.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

some ork fluff spoiled in the deathwatch codex apparently about the end of the octarious war!

What was the outcome? Do you have any more details?

From what I understood the fluff regarding Orks in the deathwatch codex was related to Ghazzy slaughtering a ton of marines and branding them so the Imperium knew he has done it. I didn't realise any link to the Octarian war.

We don't need an Ork Codex and a Kult of Speed Codex. What we need is Codex Bad Moons, Codex Goffs, Codex Snakebites, Codex Death Skullz, Codex Evil Sunz, Codex Blood Axes, Codex Feral Orks, Codex Freebootas, Codex Kult of Speed, Codex Dreadmob, Codex Blitz Brigade, Codex Rebel Grots, Codex Chaos Orks, Codex GSC (da green version), Codex Ghazzy, and Codex Diggas & Assorted Runtz. I'm a little drunk and am probably forgetting a few.

I'm sort of kidding, of course. What I hope we get is one good Codex that many different builds can be made from. After that, I'm all in favor of as much content as possible, but it might be best for the extra content to be more for casual and/or narrative games and not for competitive matched play.

I'm excited to see what they do with the different Ork Clans. One thing I hope they don't do is limit Ork units to particular clans (for instance, making all Lootas be Death Skullz or making all Warbuggies be Evil Sunz). My understanding is that in RT and 2nd Edition many units were Clan-specific. I can see them doing that with some new units, but I hope they keep the existing ones as being able to be taken by any clan.

The background for Orks was that tribes (i.e. all the Orks in a single settlement, that make up a tabletop army) generally weren't from a single tribe - So what if all Lootas are Deathskulls and all boarboyz are Snakebites? Any sufficiently large settlement will have boyz from all or most of the clans anyway. The only real diversion from that would be Ghazgkull's Army Groups North, South and Centre being described as being made up of a single clan, but even that probably only means a majority.

Actually, most of the specialist units in the Ork army now - Lootas, Flash Gitz, Cults of Speed - started out as freeboota mercenary bands.

Yep, Orks armies should always be made up of lots of klans in order for more variety in warfare. Eg, if you can bit it hard enough then send the blood axes in to hit it from inside. Or you can't break through? Send the snake bites in with their squigs and grots to smash through. Stuff like that. I thought Ghaz had a bad moonz warboss helping him out?

I'm talking about the second War for Armageddon, not the third. There was no mention of any characters except Ghazgkull, Yarrick, Dante and von Strab (oh, and the senior Titan Princeps on Armageddon at the time) in the original boardgame.

Ahh I see. Yeah, GW is a bit weird on Ork lore. If you read the history of it (a person I know genuinely has a 50,000 word essay on Ork lore and it's history). Sometimes it changes and then comes back so maybe GW just forgot warbosses exist under a warlord. (One time Orks used to become mothers and go out into the desert and give birth).

Automatically Appended Next Post:

So I was scrounging facebook and came across this post:

Wait wait, so you actively remove model options (e.g. autarch) as you don't want your customers to "kit bash" however ... lets advertise conversions and kit bashing ...

Gw actually replied to it with this:
We don't want people to have to convert their miniatures to be able to represent something we no longer produce, Joe, that just wouldn't be fair. We love seeing the conversions people build to represent their forces in games - that's why we do posts like this!

Someone then said this in reply:
Warhammer 40,000 well then the Ork codex is going to look pretty small.

And then! Gw replied :
Ohhh, no it isn't...

What could it meeeeeaaan?

This really brightened my day. It's the best thing I've read all week. I think that GW has been doing a good job with most of the 8th Ed codexes so far, so I've been optimistic about the Ork rules, but my big fear was they were going to completely gut it as so much of our stuff relies on kitbashing. This helps alleviate my fears somewhat.

I'll clarify what I meant by the clans thing when I'm at a real computer and not typing with my thumbs.

I wouldn't read too much into what the community guys say with regards codexes, they're hardly going to say a codex isn't anything less than incredible.

Looks like the "squig" teeth picture above is from the Rogue Trader models to me. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get any new models to be honest.

Really? I can't see any model with that type of squig jaw in the pictures/video. Can you point out which model you're refering to, in which picture?

The model with all the mouths on it's belly looks like a strong candidate. It looks to me like it could be a couple of the larger mutant, Nurgley things.

I guess that model could easily have some extra mouths on its back but none that are visible seem to align with the rumour engine picture

The "butcher" mutant. The two mouths on the right (his left) of his belly look to me like they could both fit the bill.

The one the video shows up close 15 seconds in? That's the one I assumed you were talking about. I really don't think so, the teeth don't seem to line up, the rumour engine one have the teeth spread apart quite a bit more than the butcher.
