Seriously, am I just insane or has GW been mentioning Ork's a hell of a lot recently? On their Facebook page they have had a few community posts relating to Orks (like going through all the deff dreads of GW history), then they'll highlight and use Orks when talking about something from 40k and now even in their big Combat Roster Builder thing they even mention Gretchin of all things! THEY NEVER MENTION GRETCHINS! They even know how many Gretchin you might put in your list!
Link: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/04/30/combat-roster-now-live-apr-30gw-homepage-post-1/?utm_source=GamesWorkshop.com&utm_campaign=eec10c32b0-GW_30th_April_Combat_Roster_ENG&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c6e14e39d2-eec10c32b0-119760301
Maybe I'm looking too much into this (especially after organising the community Waaagh! Aid where we all sent Orks and love to GW) so I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who thinks this?

There is a possibility that they are trying to placate Ork players due to some of them being upset that their codex is one of the last ones to come out. Mentioning an army makes people feel like they aren’t being left by the wayside.

Possibly trying to remind players we exist before the codex is eventually announced, so they don't whine about new factions.
In all seriousness, though, I hope you're right. Hell, they might even be sowing seeds for that rumoured Armageddon campaign.

To be honest it would be awesome and really drag 40k back into the grim dark Orkiness if the Orks go back to Armageddon in full and actually win. Like I'm talking just blow up the entire planet kinda win so the fireworks inspire Orks throughout the galaxy as a green beacon of WAAAAAAGH pushes through the cosmos.

Cadia 2: Greenskin Boogaloo
I doubt they'd actually blow up the planet, though, considering it's special to the Orks, what with it actually being Ullanor and so on. Plus it would feel like a cheap attempt to up the stakes for the Imperium by essentially going "Oh no! They lost that one too! However will they recover?!"

This is there attempt to soften the blow when they release the codex and its a pile of hot garbage.
Gretchen go up 2pts in price but gain +1 WS.
Boyz lose 1 strength and attack but gain +1 morale.
Meganobz go up in price 15pts but gain a 6+ FNP roll.

I'm not an ork player so I could be wrong, but my understanding is that actually winning Armageddon would not be a very orky thing to do; a war you won is a war that ended, and orks would be much happier with a scrap that goes on for eternity.

No if you win then you've won and that's great. You just go and find somewhere else to fight and if you get bored then you have a good old fashioned civil war. The only unorky thing is dying. If you win then you've won and proven you're better, if you run then you come back later so it doesn't count and if you die then that's an issue...

I think it's just GW trying to satiate the appetites of us ork players after being shafted for so long- throwing scraps to the starving dog, so to speak.
That being said, it's not unappreciated.

I wonder if the Orks will get a silly name that is more trademarkable in the next codex (unless GW managed to trademark Ork with a "k"? I notice Blizzard uses a "C" for their otherwise very similar greenskins - even then the GW lawyers might prefer something more distinctive and their word is Law)

I really hate to see ork player's getting their hopes up knowing how hard done by they've been for years now.
The devs past statements about orks have shown a complete lack of understanding.

Yeah but the same team put out codex tzangor and called it thousand sons, then put out the highly disappointing ad mech book...
There's no consistency to the books you might get a good book of you may get double fekked like ba.
They said grots are your strongest unit so how much faith can you have?
I'd love to get my speed freak army out of the shoebox but I don't think it'll happen this edition as it didn't the last two.

Orkz went 5th and 6th edition without a codex, 7th we got 1st codex but it was arguably the worst, we also got 3 new releases for units, Mork/Gorkanaut and Wazbom, all are complete trash and cost a fortune. We also got 2 supplements that somehow got worse over time. For 8th, we got a index that gives us 1 competitive unit (boyz) and a handful of units that BUFF that one unit (Weirdboy, ghaz, painboy). but I can understand how GW screwed DE for so long as well.

Well there's a few things it could be
1) As an ork player you might just be seeing something that's been there for a while that you're only just picking up on and noticing more. Ergo its no actual increase its just all in your mind.
2) GW is starting a slow campaign of ork propaganda in advance of a big release. Makes full sense to tease things out now slowly without talking about the release; build the hype, build the interest and steadily grow it into a big summer release (esp if they are launching orks with a slew of new models).

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Ork was originally used to differentiate the 40k range from the Fantast Orcs.
True story.
Also, I'm expecting a decent raft of releases for Da Boyz.
After all, the more recent Codecies haven't had much in the way of new stuff - with the exception of Custards, and even that was fairly conservative.
All those production resources? They must've been used somewhere.
Reckon at a minimum we'll get new Buggies and Trakks. Gork (possibly Mork) knows they need doing!

Or maybe GW finally got the message that ork players are mad as he'll about how we have been treated. Orks are one of GWs most original armies. It's time they get it right if they don't want to loose some of their most loyal customers. It is good to see how many people joined together to let GW know how we feel. If we keep pressure on them they should not see up the orks this edition.

Blow it up? Oh you're not thinking big enough. Remember that Armageddon is actually Ullanor, homeworld of the Beast. And he was infamous for building attack moons...
Captain Charkon felt the faint shudder of the aft pulse batteries firing commendably quickly after he had given the order to fire. He logged a quick subroutine in his cerebral implant to have the gun crews grog ration increased by 5% for the week. Below, the planet of eternal war, Armageddon, barely noticed the impact of yet another bombardment. Indeed, even Charkon's augmetic eyes strained to make out the location of the impact craters that marked the place where his ship's weapons had just obliterated an Orkoid camp. Armageddon had borne such wounds before, and would doubtless do so again.
Charkon was interrupted in his musings by a sudden call from across the bridge. He noted that the servitors near the navigator's capsule were jerking into life, spilling a rapid stream of data into the ship's cogitators. One of the crew members stationed nearby was looking around with a worried look on his face, catching the captain's gaze and remembering to salute a few seconds late. Charkon's subroutines automatically assigned the hapless crewman three cycles on lavatorial detail for this lapse before the man had a chance to speak. "Captain sir, registering a massive build-up of energy on the southern continent. Sensors read it as consistent with a teleportarium."
Just as Charkon was looking into the data streams to verify the statement, a gigantic green light suddenly illuminated the bridge windows. Automatic polarization spread across the armourglass in response to the intense light, but Charkon’s eyes could still see, and had his heart still been flesh and blood it doubtless would have frozen at the sight. A vast ball of light was expanding out into space, accompanied by a shockwave that spread across the southern continent, cracking the ground apart. As the captain watched, appalled, the shockwave reached an Imperial Hive and a split second later, the impossibly ancient and vast arcology was gone, consumed by a wall of pure energy more than ten times its height.
Warning signals were already blaring in from across the planet, flooding the bridge with distress calls and panicked screams. Out of the data-stream, Charkon was able to discern that the energy blast had indeed been caused by a teleportation event, but one on a scale never before seen. Untold numbers of Orks were being reported spilling out in the wake of the terrible shockwave, along with scattered reports of earthquakes planet-wide. Charkon assigned one of his subroutines to send all off-duty crew to their action stations, struggling with the data stream that screamed into his synapses.
A strangled cry from one of his officers tore his attention back to the bridge once more. The man was staring out of the armourglass, pointing down towards the planet with a shaking arm. Charkon had already demoted the man for unseemly behaviour in the time it took him to focus on what the officer was pointing at, but then his eyes beheld the spectacle. With one quivering hand, the captain reached up and switched off his data-stream connection. Nothing it would give him would match what he could see with his two eyes.
Across the surface of Armageddon, vast structures were appearing. Continent sized chunks of earth were breaking away, like a shell, revealing impossible stretches of metal. Gun batteries the size of hive spires jutted out of the metallic oceans, surrounded by hectares of armour plating. The whole planet’s surface was being stripped away in the wake of the shockwave, revealing an entire sphere of metal. As Charkon watched, the last remnants of Armageddon’s crust fell away, vaporised into space, leaving behind only the terrible edifice. The data stream, which had been flooding into the monitors all around him, fell silent.
For the briefest moment, all was still.
Then the planet spoke.
Continent sized pieces of metal began to slide across Armageddon’s new surface, opening into a jagged, leering smile. Inside that dreadful maw could be seen the very interior of the planet, causing the mouth to glow with a terrible light. Above the rift two immense portals opened, both also openings into the planet’s core. As Charkon watched, he wanted to tear his eyes away, but terror held him firm, terror and a dreadful desire to witness what was to come. All at once, one entire side of the planet now resembled nothing less than a gigantic Ork face, burning with daemonic fires. And as he stared into that titanic effigy, it spoke.
The words crashed into the ship like a wave of pure force. Every com channel, every speaker burst into life, screaming the phrase out. Somehow his data-implant had been reactivated and Charkon heard the phrase in every part of his mind, the words reverberating inside his skull, obliterating his mental connections and searing out every synapse. All he could see, all he could think, were the words.
