Don't know if it was mentioned here already but FW is releasing a knight sized Canoptek walker for Necrons. I think that would be a pretty cool center piece

Of all the models GW has produced, I feel like that thing is the most bad-ass centerpiece available. At least until the Primaris Knight thing is out.

1) I kind of hate the plastic Gulliman. Would I be allowed to use the Resin one as a counts as, since it's obviously the same guy? It's not even as different as the traitor primarchs would be.
I think they're pretty different in terms of height and base size. That might raise a few issues with certain players. Again, for saying it's the same guy, they are noticeably different -like how despite FW's Magnus and GW's Magnus being the same guy, they are vastly different.

The size difference is rather smaller than a lot of people think.

Just about every army can get a large cool centerpiece model, either through their codex, or allies. Dark eldar don't have any big models, but can ally with eldar to allow you to customize a wraith knight.

I've brought a superheavy to every one of my games so far in 8th.

Usually a shadowsword.

Most of the IG special characters can make great centerpiece models, baneblades aren't the only way to go, though they are definitely an option. Knight Commander Pask is a great option for a centerpiece model, especially since no one will complain about putting him on the board (as compared to a shadowsword).

If you want a non-regiment specific option to keep your regiment options open, Yarrick is the way to go hands down. Give him a good base and the best paint job you can manage, and he'll draw eyes to him. If you want to go all out you could even turn a baneblade into his Fortress of Arrogance. There's no rules for it, but not many centerpieces will beat that.

The Space Marine Command Tanks make great centerpiece models for a Space Marine army. Especially if you embellish them further with some added Chapter iconography. I use the Rhino Primaris in my base Crimson Fists army. I need to add some Fist icons to it though.

Space Wolves have Bjorn and Logan on his sled.

Red Scorpions have their Chapter Master in a Leviathan Dreadnought.

A nice Chaplain Dreadnought with some added Black Templars bits would be a nice centerpiece for that army.

Just some ideas.

3) Same question, but Thousand Sons.

Thank you everyone in this thread! So helpful! Gonna go look at Custodes models now.

Thousand sons:
Magnus is a beast in casual games. The range of psychic powers, and the buffs he gets means he is your bastion of psychic power. You can do everything: bashing your opponent with Mindbullets (my favourite, hence the name); making him a rolling deathball of combat power; a buffing unit; or even a enemy debuffing unit. This flexibility that can be swapped out between games is extremely helpful- and powerful. My favourite loadout is: warptime, weaver of fates, death hex and infernal gateway. (When warlord) this (along with smite) gives you the option to do everything, and keep yourself protected from the enemy. It's the best when you death hex some thunderwolves the one shot the squad in combat- ah I love it.

Anyway, onto actual list structure.
You want ahriman- he basically fills Magnus' role when he is dead, or does whatever he is not. He is a fantastic all around unit. (And an awesome model)
You want a Daemon prince- these are fantastic characters in every way. This will fill your hq options in a battalion
You can take an exalted sorcerors if you want. A good choice and can be buffed to be a beast in combat.

For troops, I would recommend two or three units of 10 rubrics. These are your classic duped up power armoured dust dudes who can quickly destroy any unit with a decent armour(-2 is nasty!)
You will then want one or two blobs of thirty tzaangors. These dudes are amazing screens, perfect targets for buffs and dish out some pain in combat. (Take them with blades! -1 ap is nasty!) A perfect choice to put some expendables on the board. This spot could be filled by cultists, who do the same job cheaper but worse.

This would be the base of a 2k list, leaving you about 700-1000 points to fill.

You can then fill up on whatever. The most competitive choice would be skyfires and vortex beasts. These guys, in a squad of 9, are fantastic at chipping off wounds on vehicles or MEQ's and great at last-minute objective grabbing. Combined with a couple vortex beasts these guys will shine. Vortex beasts are very good. Randomness is good when you have two, but it's nice you can choose. If you do take one, take two or it becomes a target.

Depending on if you run tzaangors, and however many you take,Take a shaman or two. they buff your tzaangors, (and make skyfires auto wound on a 5!) are good relic carriers and can cast a spell per turn. Very good

If you are already running rubrics, don't bother with scarab occult. They suffer from the terminator problem of the existence of multi wound weapons. (They aren't hot trash tho, so if you really like them, go ahead.)

You can pop a couple vindicators there, you could try predators, etc. There's not really a bad anti tank choice. Just make sure you have enough.

You could ally in some daemons for it to start getting silly.

You could run triple maulerfiend or triple helbrute.

Basically, from this point you fill up on what you think is cool.

Those are the thousand sons (the best legion btw!)

Hope this helps!

I'm no expert on Tsons but they get gak on a lot in competitive discussions, depressing really because magic Egyptians in spaaaace is my jam...

^this list above looks bad ass, would be aesthetically pleasing.... but people tend to steer clear of rubrics for whatever reason, probably their high cost/damage output ratio...

If anyone has a Rubrics army with 30+ PA dudes DM me? been wanting to start a force for a while...

I think people steer clear of rubrics in tournaments is the fact you can just use more cultists, more daemons, or just ally some death guard.

Don't be deterred by tip tier stuff if your not playing there.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, this is Magnus as he is in the Horus Heresy game, which is a separate ruleset from 40k. In 40k you use this Magnus.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up! Is Heresy substantially different, or largely the same with different options available? (sorry, I'm even more noob than I realized).

Horus Heresy is a spinoff of the 7th edition rules that only involves the Space Marine legions fighting each other. It has a lot of different units, all of which are resin Forge World models.

Plus imperial army and mechanicum. Let's stop the lie that it's only marine vs marine.
