Is it just me who is getting bored on the armies included in box sets? All of them are just Space Marines (or in Forge Banes case, Mechanicus) vs <insert xenos or chaos space marines here>.
Has Games Workshop ever made a Xenos vs Xenos? or Xenos vs Chaos?
I'm just getting annoyed because its quite bland... Is anyone else feeling this?

nope. this is to be expected. xenos vs xenos would be a pretty poorly selling boxed set I suspect as it would appeal to the smallest number of people, even forge bane was a pretty big risk

I think it depends which xenos are used.
Gorkamorka was incredibly popular and it was Orks vs Orks. Admittedly it wasn't a traditional box set but I don't think its accurate to assume xenos automatically appeal to the smallest number of people.
As you said - Forgebane was a risk with mechanicum vs crons but its surely shown GW there's a market for none marine box sets.
Eldar vs Orks or Nids would sell I think.

Actually what would bore me a little is that you have very little content for the price. It's already a bargain don't get me wrong but it's GW's standard barfain only and it would be noce to have at least 500 pts of models (isn't it round 400 by now for each side?) and a littke piece if terrain as well included.
Apart from that I like the releasibg of that kond of boxed set in the principle. Forgebane is a pretty good one and if they were to make several xenos/imperium or xenos/xenis or chaos xenos that woudn't bother me that much. Unless they put theur gork damn primaris or ultramarones in it: it's not the imperium that's boring, it's actually the spehss mareens.

Not at all. Dark Vengeance featured for the first time new CSM and those awesome chaos cultists. Opinions on the Helllbrute may vary but I like that model too. I didn´t need any minis from the box set to fill out crucial unit slots for my army but the models were just so good that it would have been a shame to pass up the opportunity to purchase them. As long as GW puts new exciting models in these boxes, I will buy them.
The same goes for Deathwatch Overkill. Great GSC models and even a boardgame is included. What is there to complain?

It's completely fine to put imperium models in the sets, i love the models for the Mechanicus, its just that the space marines are quite boring to me, their models are to basic for me, i just prefer Xenos or the Guardsmen/Mechanicus.

Dark Vengeance for Chaos was in my opinion bad as a starter but it was excellent to expand an army. Cultist were great objective takers, the metabrutus was a cheap option since it provided decent anti tank and could easily lock up ennemy units in close combat. Finally the chaos lord has very decent punch as well and the chosen, although the were pretty bad as a unit, made for great sergeants to fit in your squads, and the one with the power mass would often end up as a count as dark apsotle.
For casual gaming at least layong your hand on a second hand dark vengeance chaos army was a cheap and great enhancement. A starter game box like Dark Vengeance is ok when a new codex is released but the other games are not. Same old stuff which will be played a couple of times then ditched by GW and gamers alike. Only bought in the first place because of the figs

I bought it for the knights and ended up starting a Necron army
In answer to the OP, it'd depend on which xenos forces were in a xenos vs xenos set. I've got the start of Necron and Tyranid forces, so I'd get it if it included both, but if it was Elder vs Orks I'd probably pass.

I don't think Gorkamorka was particularly popular, at least in my area. Necromunda and mordheim, yes. GM petered out pretty quickly after Digganob came out. I think it has achieved a bit of cult status now though.
At the time my gaming group played much necromunda, but no one really cared to play GM after a game or two.

Not bored at all, would like to see even more.
GW has done some xeno on xeno bundles - Stormcloud attack, the Dark Eldar jetbike "game", so we may seem more with field troops down the line.
I do wish they would put more effort into the story and scenarios - Forgebane's "story" and scenarios definitely came across as a last minute excuse to do something with the model set. A more elaborate campaign and more in-depth non-codex info about the two groups (and the planet) would have been greatly appreciated.
I'd like to see Ork vs. Tau (Enclaves?) and an Eldar vs. Sisters.

Not at all bored with them. They're a great starting point for players. They're usually a good deal. And there's usually more Imperium players than anything else, so there's generally a market for at least half the box.
As far as mixing it up with Non-Imperium vs. Non-Imperium... someone would have to come up with an idea for two army sets that really work well against one another.
Personally I want to see more Battleforce boxes.

Our group had a small ork [thanks auto correct..there were no "pros" to n my game my group]player base, so that may have been part of it. I think this was also when GW moved away from the silliness of 1st and 2nd edition and epic. That change could be seen as a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.

problem with an IG starter box is that a space marine boix gives you a reasonably solid army out of the box points wise, guard would not.

I don't like the Steel Legion actually. Not into gas-masked models.

True. Or the box would be prohibitively expensive.

The Calth and Prospero sets were Emperor-sent for the Horus Heresy Community, and I know a lot of 40k marine players that appreciated getting older marks in bulk. Personally I won’t be satisfied until they release a boxed set where MkII is the spotlight Armor.

The two-army box model should be retired. It is dull and cost prohibitive, especially if you are not interested in both forces in the box. GW should move to single-faction starters priced at around $50- that way a new or existing player can get models for an army they actually want to play along with the rules, and at a price that makes it easier (and for some, possible) to get into the game. They could do the same thing for the campaign boxes- just package each selected force with the scenario booklet.
