Hi!

Where should the pilot of the battlesuit be seated? The model don't allow much room in the supposed compartement inside it. Is it remote controlled?

Nop, pilot is inside otherwise it would not be a (battle)suit. And tau are tiny, there's plenty of space. Probably not seated though, more likely like Ripley in her exoskeleton in Aliens I would reckon.

Tau are all 5"4 vegan manlets, their cockpits are also relatively cramped, basically just room for the Tau to fit, because their glorious space communist empire wouldnt waste valuable materials on comfort.

The scale of the crisis suits is broken, you can't fit a pilot in there. It's probably best to assume that they are drones, commanded over a remote link from outside the battlefield.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

GW messed up the scale of these models, as is tradition.

No he's actually right. There are few images on the web showing how Tau fits inside the suit.

It's a common issue with GW modeling. The pilot sits (very cramped) in the torso, the moddels are about 20% too small relative to Fire Warriors, most art of the cockpit shows fire warriors about hip height while on the model they come up to the mid-torso/chest height. One can also see similar issues with stuff like Russ tanks, where the turrets are so small the gun breach would block the top hatch (and does in FW art) and absolutely could not fit one much less multiple crew.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Keep in mind that when they came out, terminators were still on the same size base as regular SM infantry.

Also, how does a caste system work in communism again

There's a couple of things to consider here:

1)
Vehicle/infantry proportions are all over the place in GW. Tanks are generally crazy wide for instance compared to real life tanks, and it seems impossible to imagine how 10 power armoured dudes could fit in a Rhino. So realistically it's quite possible an XV8 would be a little bigger compared to Fire Warriors than the models suggest.

2)
I believe it is generally accepted (others will correct me if I'm wrong!) that Tau suits are not worn like a suit of armour. Rather the pilot is curled up in a fetal position, probably suspended in goo, and jacked in to the Battlesuit systems. Imagine the pods in The Matrix, but in an mech!

Actually im fairly sure there is design art somewhere that shows theyre in an upright position, controlling them normally. It really is just that cramped.

The Tau pilot fits completely inside of the torso of the Crisis suit. Tau Battlesuits are functionally Drones with the controller riding along inside it, guiding it along not unlike a video game. The cockpits are cramped, but Tau seem to not mind.

It is their slim, girlish figure that although is great for mech suit pilots, makes them terrible in GLORIOUS CLOSE COMBAT!

They don't even have Chain Katanas!

I like to imagine they are curled up and control it with their minds

We live in a world where millions accept that all that guff fits inside Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man suit, with room for a human. I'm more than willing to suspend disbelief for a Mech suit 40 thousand years in the future.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

And lets not forget that combat poses take up more space than quietly sitting poses. For example a car is roughly 2 adult males in combat poses wide and can still fit 3 adult males in the back seat.

Huh, well that's disappointing if so!

Exactly.

If you scale a marine to 6ft tall the passenger compartment on a rhino is about the same size as the passenger compartment on a Blackhawk.

The passenger compartment of a chimera is really spacious compared to real APCs.

I agree for Guardsmen definitely. If you sardines them in a seated pose you'd get a decent number in a Chimera. Though it doesn't help that they themselves are proportioned weirdly! They are extremely broad shouldered for their height.

Marines I'm still not convinced on, because of how broad they are with their pauldrons. Heck, most techmarines on vehicle pintle guns don't actually fit through the hatch they are poking through because of this!

Yeah, I don’t put a guys in pintles, I put a magnet for either a closed hatch or a remote operated turret.

If you want, feel free to model arms on the outside like in appleseed.

If I were really clever I'd have taken measurements of the cockpits in my Ghostkeels before gluing them closed to see if that'd fit inside a Crisis suit body. I bet it'd be close (though it wouldn't leave much room for a reactor).

If you wanted to go all Infinity-manned-TAG/'Appleseed' (not sure what that is but I'm going to assume it's an actual thing and Carldooley isn't making it up) and stick arms to the outside I might also suggest tweaking the hip joints a bit; the way the Infinity manned TAGs are modeled the guy is in the lower chest/crotch area and his legs are in the top bit of the mech's legs, and the ball joints on Crisis suits look like a good way to snap your legs straight off if you bent them wrong.

Unless Tau have vastly more flexible hip joints than humans do. Hrm. Tests...

(The really funny part here is there's a Marine tank commander part on the standard externals sprue partially sticking out of the hatch as well as the pintle gunner fully on the outside, and his pauldrons have obviously been shaved down to fit, and even then he doesn't actually fit.)

Nope. There have been a bunch of attempts to make an Appleseed movie.

Try 1988 for the first one.

The manga started coming out in 1985.
