Hey!

I'm new to the game so I'm a bit confused as to what I need. I bought the new Soul Wars box and plan on playing Nighthaunt. I'm getting the new Nighthaunt Battletome but do I also need the General's Handbook 2018?
If so, what do i get extra that i dont get in the new core rule book and the new battletome?

/T

Unless you are not playing matched play, you will need the Generals Handbook as it has the matched play point values as well as the scenarios for competitive/tournament games.

You'll want the GHB. Core book is more or less optional unless you want grand alliance allegiances, rules for fighting in different realms, and/or tons and tons of fluff.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Okay, thank you . I was confused since I thought the points values were in the battletome. I'm also using this app called Battlescribe which is handy.

Points are never in the battletomes, only in the GHB.
why it is like this idk.
There are more then just points tough in the GHB, so in general it is worth it to have.

There are points in my DoK and my sons Idoneth battletomes. Those were designed with AoS2.0 in mind though the battalions saw point changes in GHB18. Guessing because of the command point addition?

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

Points have been in every Battletome post GHB 2016.

Seeing how you plan to play nighthaunt, you don't realy need GHB 2018, except for some battleplan(scenarios). The only thing that might not be in the battletome are the points, but those are availible in the warscroll builder on the warhammer community site.

The Nighthaunt battletome has the points in so no real need for the GHB 2018 for a player starting out with Nighthaunt who already has the core rule book.
