I have a question how competitive can about knight list be? And do they generally preform better than a pure custodes list?

A pure Knights list will struggle with objectives and covering the battlefield effectively. They're best mixed with other things.

Pure Custodes is totally viable for general play, they can do really well. Again, the ideal build will soup in something else to balance them a bit, usually some Imperial Guard.

Mostly Custodes with a Knight is pretty decent, the Knight can give them some move needed volume of long range firepower.

Pure knights is viable with helvrins in the list providing long range highly mobile fire support. They can definitely cover objectives. 2-3 helvrins with 3 big guys up front has enough units and is fairly durable, flexible and damaging enough. Problem is that lots of people want to pick knights that all want to be running up the table and that doesn't work.

Just wait though... As the Meta shifts, more anti knights weapons will begin to show up in lists. That why I like my warden + two Armigers escorting my guardsmen.

3 helverin and 3 big guys is not that much especially as they are hardly invincible. Don't get first turn and losing 1 of both is very possible.

And as usual while they might work soup is better

Pure Custodes works fine if you ignore the infantry and go all in on the bikes; especially after the Deep Strike FAQ it's far too easy for your infantry to never see melee (where they do all their damage), while the bikes are a lot harder to kite and the Hurricane bolters and Fly make them impossible to tarpit. They do work better in support of another army than on their own, however.

Pure Knights are one-dimensional and can be very strong simply by virtue of presenting a skewed defensive profile (chewing through 25 Invulnerable-save-protected T8 wounds isn't an issue, chewing through 100 Invulnerable-save-protected T8 wounds can be a nightmare for an all-comers list), but they can get swamped and have a hard time with objectives, and are generally better in support of another army.

I'd say pure Knights are a better choice than pure Custodes because more of their stuff is good (which gives you more flexibility/choice when building your list, as opposed to going straight for "here twenty bikes let's go"), they're more effective against a wider range of targets (Vertus Praetors are nightmares fighting infantry but they struggle against anything over T6), and they're less easily hard-countered by common all-purpose weapons (any kind of D2/-2 or better spam (Riptides, plasma, battle cannons...) will demolish Custodians if you don't roll great saves, and "D2/-2 or better spam" describes almost the prerequisite to be a strong army in 8e).

Won't help. If the enemy can kite them until doomsday and they do no damage at range they could be twenty points apeice and still be useless. We need Saggitarii, a usable transport, and the FW spears with better guns.

So much depends on your game and terrain. If your running enough you can reliably hide your forces, and with your knights in general expecting to go first, they seems to do okay. Also Are you running ITC? Matched Play? PL? Straight Rulebook?

All change the answer.
