Hi all, recently got my latest four Whitestar models finished and am really unsure of them. On occasion I am really quite happy with the effect at other times I just want to strip them and start again.

For those not familiar with the source material the Whitestar features a semi-organic hull material that shifts in appearance, due to the limitations of the budget and graphics of Babylon 5 their appearance varies wildly so hunting down a definitive image of just what they look like is problematic (I have over a hundred screen captures to work from).

For my first attempt I just blocked in colours and tried to keep to irregular patterns and this looked very bad, my second attempt I tried stippling with three different colours and this was an improvement but still looked poor, the final attempt that I am showing here involved inking in a tracery/webbing of lines trying to conform to the curves of the hull and wings.

So, what do people think? Should I strip and start again? Is it passable? How can I improve?

Cheers in advance.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

I dig it. Portrays the skin the ships have well.

Didn't the White Stars have the same skin as Vorlon ships? They swirl and change all the time. Mixing the different styles would actually be cannon, and all of your versions look great. Lucky me, I mainly have Earth Force ships which practically painted themselves.

Ooh, Whitestars! The colours and patterns definitely make me think of the on-screen versions, so that's a win as far as I'm concerned. Where are the models from?

I'm not familiar with the show these are from, but I'm reminded a little of cuttlefish, which from what you say, seems to fit with a changing skin. I really like them, the pattern looks very intricate but natural. I think they look cool.

Thanks for the replies people. As they are overwhelmingly positive I guess I will leave them as.

These particular ones are prints from Shapeways, most of the rest in my gallery are metal from Agents of Gaming.
