It's only stupid if you disregard the fluff.

Anyway, I'm done with this. I know people are checking this thread for news.

That's circular. I really don't see that as a valid counter argument for criticising the fluff being stupid.

Fair.

The latest update to the WarCom live blog says they will have some reveals at NOVA.

"And don’t worry, we’ll have more exciting reveals for you soon with our next Warhammer Community and Studio Preview seminar at the NOVA Open in Washington DC in less than two weeks’ time! "

I'm hoping for more Sisters of Battle images, but I'm sure what it'll be is more Ork previews.

Fingers crossed for Slaanesh stuff. Nothing from the WarhammerFest really scratched an itch; Speed Freaks could possibly be a fun mini game to snag for the wife and me if it’s priced like Gangs of Cammoraugh, but even though AT looks AMAZING, it’s priced out of the budget as a pickup game. So Fest had nothing for me, personally, and I’m disappointed with what arrived. Hoping Nova drops Slaanesh stuff, and I’ll be a happy camper (there is a budget set aside for the Slaanesh release).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I think Slaanesh will come closer to Christmas/new year

It not only fits with how GW has released the other chaos gods, but also ties into the fact that Slaanesh currently sits in a very key point in the Age of Sigmar lore and that his release or his armies being bolstered or otherwise improved would be a pretty major story point so it would make sense for there to be some downtime between that event and the last major events of the 2.0 release and the Necroquake and the forces of Nagash going into all out war with those of Sigmar and the Grand Alliance Order.

That said if it comes sooner or there are clear hints/release details I won't be wishing them delayed. Like yourself I've been waiting to see Slaanesh get a bit release update.

I reckon WHF this weekend was a more general overview of all GW stuff, while NOVA will be more focused on 40k/AoS content. It's looking like the Ork codex will be the big release after Rogue Trader, so that seems to the most likely for the next preview.

edit: didn't they also preview Chapter Approved at last year's NOVA? Could happen again.

I'm not sure if Speed Freeks and Rogue Trader were part of GW's original plan for this weekend. But the leaks really took the wow factor away. If the first reveal had been this weekend I'd still be picking my jaw up from the floor.

Alright. For anyone interested, according to a post/comments in the Talons of the Emperor facebook group, someone asked staff about the upcoming Imperial Armour. It's apparently being pushed back in favour of Malevolence, and they may continue releasing PDF beta rules until its eventual release, whenever that may be.

I’m more than a little surprised we didn’t get more of a breakdown of the studio presentation. Surely more was said, or at least hinted about in that session. All we got is a very brief summary that suggested more chaos potentially on the way for 40k for next year. While I appreciate that brief insight, is that truly all there was?

I wouldn't be too surprised if its also getting wrapped in with some kind of plastic grav tank/ grav transport and even a new dread.

Releasing the kraken of forge world getting feedback on custodes rules is really just showing how much interest there would be in plastic versions.

I'm assuming these studio previews tend to focus on new models, specialist games and black library stuff more so than codexes?

If so I'm looking forward to getting more details on speed freeks, how it plays and the upcoming Ork release in general. Looks like they've really treated us this year and they have at least one more unannounced model.

I was very disappointed. There was a big room for the tournaments with very bad tables. They used mousepad maps but they have been thinnier than my gamemat.eu maps and didn't lie completely flat. Most terrain was old GW ruins, spraypainted and drybrushed, no details, and glued on plain grey wood bases. It's been a long time since I attended a tournament with this low terrain quality. Ok, it was way better that that awful London GT stuff, but I wasn't there.

Then there was the Golden Demon area. When we left at 3 the cabinets haven't exactly be bristling with models and while there have been a few stunning pieces, there where way more that I could have painted way better (and I'm not talking about young bloods).

Next to it there where some promo tables for card games and a big area where they sold normal stuff (not even this weeks pre-orders :( ). Then the big FW queue area and a small FW sales area.

Above that there have been a few tables with about a dozen GW people from the different teams and 2 display tables (normal gaming size).

The workshops have been very limited in number of attendees. And from their summyry on WarCom they haven't been really interesting.

No games you could join. No stunning huge displays. No painting workshops. No new models on display, Rogue Traders was the newest and we already seen high quality pics of those. They could have had at least the Speedfreekz stuff on display. No video game presence. No display pieces like a life-sized Space Marine or something. Not even an attempt to get the crowd yell "WAAAAAAAAGH".

This was just a glorified sales pitch without flavor. Not at all comparable to the very first Games Day in Germany in the 90ies. Won't attend again.

BTW regarding orks did they specify october gets ork codex or could it have been speed freak codex?

Part of me still hoping for ork codex in september Community live blog doesn't even mention codex of any kind. Just that speed freaks are joining us on october.

My big worry about the ork release is that with speed freaks getting plenty models they are stars of the codex and rest get only marginal improvements which leave core issues not fixed. For foot horde/walker style fan that would suck. For me fast orks have been support units always rather than core.

Hm, if ORKtober isn't enough of a hint when orcs will appear, you can of cause hope for September.

If most of releases for orks is on october that would satisfy.

One can always hope right? As it is it's now weird in that GW breaks up two of their policies to push orks further. Hell what we can be sure is that within past year SOMETHING happened to change orks be at least month if not more later than originally planned.

On Saturday. As I said, we left at 3 because we where bored. We have been there for less than 4 hours and spend a good amount of time in the food area and in the Bistro outside. And I never said I could paint better than most entries. I said the bad outnumbered the stunning ones (i.e. the Phantom and Warlord Titans and the Khorne diorama). Most of the stuff was very nice and way better than I could do but nothing to write home about. We most likely haven't seen everything as we left early, but what we had seen was on average not as good as I had expected.

That's not nostalgia. The one I visited was way bigger, had at least 1 huge display( I think there was also another one), games you could join, a huge silver screen showing an animated Björn in action and a lot more people had been there. Ok, there was less staff, I remember only 3: Fat Bloke,a sculptor whose name I forgot who did BFG ships and Andy Chambers (complete with sideburns). IRRC also 1 or 2 Heavy Metal guys. GW was also a lot smaller then, I don't know if Forgeworld and Black Library already existed. And we stayed there all day long and would have stayed longer if it wouldn't had closed. And the sales area was tiny compared to the rest of the location.

I would have at least expected a large display featuring the new terrain and more models than you could see in a normal game.

It's probably the way you are phrasing or picking out details, but it sounds like you almost begin being bored and despondent with the event before you had even turned up.

The tables being fairly plain terrain makes sense, its functional game terrain rather than high detail high investment terrain that might get broken over so many tables and so many players. Many a club has similar and often the best is the kind people bring of their own and keep with them most games.

The lack of a diorama just tells me that GW didn't have anyone local or any storage space local to let them easily ship one over - moving big things like that is never easy and is costly and if they've not made one specifically for transport then it can be a lot of bulk.

Aye, WHW is diorama paradise, but for their GD / Fest events they stopped doing them. IIRC it used to be a massive effort with all stores pitching to do some bits of the display.

In the good old days even a small GW store had several staffers and a prime highstreet position; in todays world of insane highstreet operating costs most are down to one staffer in a modest part of town (which must seriously cost GW a lot). So I can see GW stores just not having the free time they once had to produce and help toward a diorama like they once did.

It's a shame but in the UK unless there's a huge change with regard to rent and rates the highstreet is just not very attractive nor nice to shops.

When GD is on Sunday, and you left at saturday 3 pm you shouldn't judge what you haven't see. What your doing is like saying Avangers 4 sucked after leaving after the trailers and the first 2 1/2 minutes! *=yeah nice contradiction. And from your list of "stunning ones" its easy to tell, that you don't know head from ass and are only impressed by BIIIIG pieces, no matter the quality.

And concerning displays and gaming tables, back in the GD-days till 208ish, all things were done by German stores - mandatory! Organised by the German Headquater that provided everything on display! As said this year everything had to be shipped in from the UK. But as you didn't even noticed everything, as you demonstrated with Titanicus, you are a poor judge for the event!
