Would I run into any problems using the models from the Burning of Prospero set for 40K? I'm not sure if some people would complain that they are really 30K models and not 40K models, or something like that.

I highly doubt it. The marines are just marines. The tartaros terminators have rules in the modern codices. The Custodian gaurd and sisters of silence likewise have 40k rules. I'd say you're good to go.

Scratch that, I think I may eschew the marines entireley - due to I don't love how they look as much as this and I can also break into AOS with tihs:

I've been thinking about getting that box too, since you can use those in AoS as they are, or play them with Thousand Sons and say that the cultist can shoot magic as count-as pistols.

nah the armor is still in use to this day, the Lion's share of my space wolves are MK III armor. that said if you want to start marines, I think betrayal at Calath is the better set.

I have two Prospero sets, not had any problems using them in 40k, a bod in power armour is pretty obviously a bod in power armour. As noted the Tartaros terminators have rules now as well.
The only "problem" is the way the 30k and 40k structures for organisation are so different its awkard to a level to try and do both without some left over models, YMMV on this being a problem.
They are seriously nice models though.
Not sold on the MkIV but again YMMV, the Dreadnaught in those kits is horrible though, prefer BoP over BaC simply for that really

Fair warning, the Changecult doesn't work in 40k even if you use the human models as cultists because it lacks an HQ (the Tzaangor Shaman is an Elite slot). You'll need a Thousand Sons sorcerer of some kind to make it work on the table, I'd recommend Ahriman or a Daemon Prince.

what problem is that? the MK IIIs are your basic tac squad. 10 tens, 1 sergent, 1 guy with a special weapon, 1 guy with a heavy weapon.

It’s not much of a problem if you build them as 30k veteran squads, who are equipped like 40k tac squads. But what are you going to do with the few special/heavies if you want to field them as a basic legion squad, which is just a sarge and a lot of bolters? You are not going to have enough fancy guns to make specialist squads. Hence the leftover models.
And some gear options are not allowed in 30/ 40k so models won’t be WYSWYG cross compatible.
There is also a question of what in not just allowed in both systems, but effective. That’s a lot rougher. It’s easy to either 30k or 40k, but trying to do both can be tricky.

Key words in bold. 30k doesn't have tac squads. Closest you get is veteran squads but those have cc weapons. Do 40k tac squads have those?

... which means that to use them in 30k you can either field two Tactical Squads of 12 and 11 models respectively (since you can't use the heavy or special weapon troopers in a Legion Tactical Squad) or you field three Legion Veteran Squads - which use up all your Elites slots or forces you to use the Pride of the Legion formation.
If you get a single additional special or heavy weapon trooper from somewhere, you can make a minimum-size Support squad with four special/heavy troopers and a sergeant.

With veteran squads you run into WYSIWYG issues then. And either way bit of fudging. Which was his point. It's akward to try both without left over models for one of the games

Ended up with 2x20 squads and 15 models giving me a heavy bolter, plasma and melta support squad, can mix and match to a level but its not ideal.
pity no one locally seems to want to play the fan conversion of 30k to 8th or I'd just run that

Hmm... I was thinking I should get a Daemon Prince, so that I could play the army in both AOS and 40k. One of my friends wants me to play AOS, and it looks like a fun side-game to play.
