The German Lexicanum is much better than the English Lexicanum because Lexicanum was a German project. Lynata has noted this before. I love the German Lexicanum, as it is much more moderated than the English Lexicanum and much more reliable. What does everyone think?

Hmm. Usually when googling 40K things I'm linked to the german lexicanum site for obvious reasons. After reading the article I usually switch to English and realize there is much more information, that is also properly cited and current whereas a lot of information in the german articles doesn't seem to be up to date.

Could you show me an example of this? A comparison of two articles where you'd say the german one is superior?

I thought it was obvious just looking at it? Its a fact. Do you realize Lexicanum was a German Project? And thus is much more moderated than the English Lexicanum.
Take this quote from Inquisitor S.
The reason for that is simple: the Lexicanum is a German project. And the German side has always been very thoroughly moderated, which unfortunately did not happen with the English side. Long story short: all "English" sysops were removed and now the English Lexicanum is co-moderated by the "German" sysops. The goal is to bring the English Lexicanum up to the German Lexicanum standard.

Yeah, well, now you wrote 3 times that it is better moderated but if there is less content I'd still choose the English version. The german version ist sill more reliable than warhammer wiki I guess.

I get the feeling that I don't really understand what you mean by "moderated". Do you mean the articles are actually more reliable and there's no fanon going into them like with warhammer wiki? Do you mean the quotations are always up to date? Because if "moderation" doesn't mean "creating more content" I'd still say it stays behind the larger english lexicanum. It would really help me to understand what you mean if you showed an example of the superior moderation.

Yes, and I mean that German Lexicanum has moderators, more so than the English Lexicanum since Lexicanum was a German project.
and I just did show an example I showed you a user here (Inquisitor S.) saying it.
Surprisingly, most if not all information I found on Warhammer wiki is accurate. I read about the Laer there and found it almost verbatim in the Fulgrim book.

That's nice. Irrelevant to what I said but it's nice to be told that the German lex has moderators for the fourth time.

And the English one is moderated worse than the German one because its not a German project.

That's what I learned from a user here (Inquisitor S. I quoted and linked him), and what I saw on the German Lexicanum.

This thread feels like bait. I mean just because something starts as a project in one language doesn't make it better than a spin off in another language.

I don't know, most of the game is in English and many sources never get German releases meaning it's more likely that the more complete version is going to inevitably be the English version due to the ease of cross referencing things in a single language. More moderation doesn't mean better moderation, it just means there is more potential censorship going on and as an American I have to poo-poo that by default so they don't deport me.

Their opinion is subjective, not objective meaning it's prone to personal bias and has no definite metric to prove it is right. As such it's basically the same as being wrong.

Which only proves how little objectivity you'd have in a project. Of course the version you personally work on is going to get your vote as the superior one, just like how I'm going to say my army is cooler than yours because it's my personal favorite. The more objective viewpoint are going to be those who use the service over those who are elbow deep in working on it.
Basically you're subscribing to a biased viewpoint, claiming it to be unbiased and then using it as the yardstick for how you make your decisions. This is just a bad way to make decisions about anything since you're being led by the nose by someone else's beliefs instead of forming your own out of your own observations and the viewpoints of multiple sources weighed against each other.
Using a single data point to determine proof is bad math, bad statistics and bad logic. Automatically Appended Next Post: Grimtuff wrote:Does the German lexicanum include loads of verbal diarrhea too?
I don't know if it does, but I bet it includes German translations of a lot of names, meaning it's going to be less accurate than English since it's a translation of the source material and not the actual direct source material.

The first part is a point about how someone who actively participates in a thing is going to be less objective than a passive observer about that same thing. It's human psychology to believe that your "thing" is better than the "other thing" just because it's the side your on. Just look at politics, sports teams, Apple vs Windows, or even Russ versus Magnus. People choose sides, and don't easilly shift those sides because they believe their side to be better/more correct than the other side, sometimes to the point of fanaticism.
We're literally wired to act this way, and that's why if you only use the opinions of those directly involved in a project to judge if that project is better than another project you'll be misled by the involved party's personal biases.
The second point was about translation inaccuracies. Even multi-million dolllar companies screw up translations, much less GW and it's fans.
