Subject: Leman russ tank company numbering

Boom! Leman Russ Commander
|
So I’ve painted up a tank company and started getting the transfers for numbering the russes.
The basic 3 digit numbering is what I decided to go with.
So the first digit is the company number, the second is the squad number and the third is the tank number. So 213 would be 2nd company, 1st squad, 3rd tank. So 1st companies 3 squadrons would be:
111, 112, 113
121, 122, 123
131, 132, 133
Now for the company commander the first number is obviously the company number, the second is either a 0 or a skull, but what I’m having trouble finding is the 3rd digit and what it is for company tanks.
Does anyone know what the 3rd digit is for company tanks and what it stands for? Where Are you facts from? I read through the old imperial armor books and only found the above information I just posted.
Thanks for the comments!

I assume the third digit is for the vehicle number as per the normal squadrons. Most company commands probably only consist of 1 vehicle, but some commands might have more - such as a 2iC tank. Also attached vehicles would also come under this numbering. So if the command squadron has only one tank and an attached hellhound the numbers would be - assuming first company - 101 for the commanders tank and 102 for the attached hellhound.
For your interest it follows the German panzer 3 digit numbering in ww2.

I think standard nomenclature in the US army is for the command tank to.be 6.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I marked mine with colored shapes. A-la commonwealth tank markings from WWII
Company Command is a diamond, squadron 1 is a square, squadron 2 is a circle, and squadron 3 is a triangle. Company A is red, Company B is blue, and Company C is yellow.
With regards to the german 3-digit number system, I believe Company Command would be 100.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

It would be 100 or 101 if it was the first company. For example if it was the 5th company command tank it would be 501.
From rereading some old IG codexes it looks like the IG use the coloured shape method, the stripes method, and the numbering method. All at the same time.
And of course there will always be regimental variations.

They detailed this for some regiments back when the original Leman Russ kit was released. I might dig around later and see if I can find it for you.

There are no such things as tank squads. A tank platoon is the smallest formation that is fielded, except when individual tanks are parceled out on infantry support missions. A tank platoon can range anywhere from 2 to 4 tanks.

Very true. I was more so wondering just for a leman russ company how the squads were broken down. I just wasn’t sure how the numbering went for the company command tank. That would be awesome! I love finding lore from the old book and magazines!
