That Swarm-Crumbling was also I thing I did not like at all, and, do not like in CE as it was also "migrated".

I cannot really remember the changes in the 8 lores, mainly because I was playing O&G most of the time and only eventually Dark Elves. Dark Elves had their own Lore, but were also allowed to use Death, Shadows, Fire and Metal I think.
What were the changes in the 8 Lores you disliked?

The 5 man frontage for rank bonus was, well, not really necessary, as it also tipped the balance more in favor of cavalry. But I always played units 5 or 6 wide since forever, so I didn't really notice the difference
I didnt like the assymetric look of command models standing at the side of the unit

BSB extra plus 1 combat resolution was, in my book, a good change. Made the BSB more attractive. In 6th, I tended to play without BSB because of the limitations in hero selection. At 2000 points, if your didn't use a Master Wizard as Lord choice, you usually had 2 of 3 hero slots already spent with 2 level 2 wizards. So if you wanted a fighting character beside the Lord, I always hesitated paying an extra of 25 points for the BS (or was it 35?), having less options equipment-wise.
Of course, if I played Dark Elves in 6th, the BSB was kinda must have because of the Hydra Banner.

The thing with the 2 combats fought was also at least a questionable rule decision. I think the wanted to resolve the odd situation of having models in CC, that weren't allowed to fight.
But I really agree with you this solution was not the best idea, and this also gave further advantage to fast moving, hard-hitting units compared to 6th.

I'll line by line what I hated about the lores later, since I'm at work and am not in the right place to dare to compare.

In my games of 6th I would run, and STILL run, the single Level 2 wizard. I never leave my BSB at home, so it was feasible. The big thing about the Magic phase was realizing that there wasn't much of anything past Conflagration of Doom or the Tzeentch spell where your unit fights itself that did enough damage to be literally afraid of. Cross the board as fast as possible, DARE your opponent to charge you, and Magic usually became a non-issue really quick.

The optimal answer to the issue with combats is to move all combats simultaneously at the end of the phase.

I play 6th edition. I have a decently big Dwarf army, medium/small Greenskins and Wood Elf armies, and a small Bretonnian force. I've got a group of four (including me) all playing it. We started last year and have run three campaigns so far, I think. We also play 40k Rouge trader (ie first edition), so we do split time between the two. It's all good fun.

I originally started fantasy in early 7th edition, played through parts of 8th, and then just went to 6th. Partly for balance, but I also just think the books are nicer to read, the game is more fun to play, and there's loads of great resources in the form of campaign books and the like.

I play WH Fantasy 6th edition and WH 40k 1st edition.

Dwarves, Orcs & Goblins, Wood Elves and Bretonnia

Any tips or thoughts on campaigns? Is it just running Border Princes out of the book, or are you using maps and moving armies or the General's Compendium (which I recently managed to get a copy of!)?

We have done a few variants. One was using the Map campaign from the general's compendium (Which I suppose is also a Border Princes Campaign), but we used a small portion of the map, rather than the entire one. We have also run two campaigns using the rules from the Warbands supplement, where you keep track of losses and get different amounts of points to buy new troops and such. I also ran a narrative campaign with just one person from my group, last year, where we just decided the next game based on what happened in the last one. They all worked well. With the map campaign we used the rules straight out of the book, but we felt it dragged on for a bit too long, and we missed keeping track of losses and buying new troops, as we had done that in all other campaigns. However, using a map and setting up the table differently for different areas was great.

The best tip I would have, is start with short campaigns so that they are easy to finish. Use them to learn what is fun and what isn't, and work your way up!

I play WH Fantasy 6th edition and WH 40k 1st edition.

I also chased down the interiors for the 5th Ed. campaign packs, those would be pretty easy to port over from my viewings of the events.

You could also swing the Albion campaign as well.

Indeed, there are several campaign books for 6th, Storm of Chaos is another one I think?

I found the 5th edition siege book quite interesting, it has some campaign ideas which could easily be used in 6th.

I play WH Fantasy 6th edition and WH 40k 1st edition.

I've used the 5th edition siege supplement from its inception to this day, so yes it can absolutely be used in games of 6th edition or games based on 6th edition.

The siege campaign in that book is a lot of fun.

We use step up in our games of 6th. it's not like an army would stand there in a straight line and not do anything when the charges happened. Power dice disparity as tzeentch could pull off is more dependant if you're fighting someone that doesn't want to face you ever again. I don't really like the "their dice" rule since you might only have one good spell to cast with the other guy and waste all your dice every turn.

Vampire Counts 12,000 pts Tomb Kings 5,000 pts
Skaven 9,500 pts Ogre Kingdoms 7,000 pts
High Elves 8,800 pts
Bretonnia 8,000 pts
Empire 7,500 pts Lizardmen 6,000 pts
Dwarfs 10,000 pts Chaos 18,500 pts
Wood Elves 10,000 pts Dark Elves 7,000 pts
Orcs and Goblins 9,500 pts Dogs of War 5,000 pts.

Actually found my old Ogre Kingdoms army book the other day, the first army I started. God I wish they'd get some support this edition.

If you want to say 7th was the edition of magic, 8th was the edition of hordes then AOS 1 and 2 are the editions of untouched factions.

All the cool campaigns, like grudge of drong, tears of isha, effigy of gork... are great fun to play with rules of 6th edition. Albion campaign was super fun back in the day, with the landing ships in the first mission, the siege, etc....

These campaigns are the heart and sould of Warhammer Fantasy in my opinion, I never had more fun playing the game than in a campaign.

I never had as much fun as 6th, 7th killed it for me, then 8th completely destroyed my faith in the game, put it away for years. I have had so much fun going back to 6th. Have debated a couple games of 5th just for the herohammering fun-ness and a buddy wants to see how his Dark Elves compare to my Vampires in 7th in terms of overpowered armies lol. Thinking of running a couple campaigns this summer as well.

I think we started with 2nd or 3rd.

I just recently started playing 8th edition with a friend. Love it, but I also have 6th edition because of how people say it's more balanced.

Hard to find people in Washington state since it's mainly 40K country.
