4 minutes? This video should be 5 minutes long. They don't know what they are doing.

Nice Guard cosplay. Clunky Marine cosplay. Boring film though, tbh.

Thing is, "clunky" is exactly how power armour would be if taken literally. Its the same problem the Ultramarines animated film had "how do i get this armour to actually move and look like it could?"

It looks fine in static poses, but when you think about it, actually moving in the thing would be next to impossible.

Slightly more on topic, great acting from the guardsman, about what you`d expect from a marine given they are always described as being direct and seemingly without humanity to others (with the possible exception of the Space Wolves).

Pretty good I thought (though as a Tyranid player I was probably happier to see Hormagaunts).

I didn't need the marine, but frankly, the viewpoint character being a normal real human made this instantly magnitudes more interesting and relatable than any of the CGI marines yelling platitudes in booming voices while hacking things to pieces fan films that there have been floating about recently.

The Marine is literally an angel answering to the prayers of the faithful. His appearance is more than appropriate.
I like the acting and the light, the latter perfectly sets the tone.
I loved this one.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

Yeah, narratively it works well. Though a SoB might have need thematically a better saviour.

Was very well done. Only criticism is the marine's movements being quite rigid, but that's more of a limitation of the costume.

Hopefully there will be more.

Not bad. Acting was a bit "meh", and the lasgun is picked up as if it weighs nothing (i.e. a cosplay prop and not a proper 7-10 lb. rifle). Other than that...pretty fun.

Best fan film I've seen for 40k in all honesty.

Loved the focus on a normal guy. Some people say boring, I found it atmospheric and tense.

Gives me hope that something longer in a 40k setting could actually, theoretically, be decent!

Would have liked to actually see more of the Xenos but assume the budget wasnt there.

Eh, it looks pretty good in motion in Space Marine the video game. This cosplay is a bit on the clunky side, people have done better. My favourite would be Pileriud from Sweden:

The space marine cosplayer ruined it for me. In order to do marines right you either need a complex mixed CGI/prop suit similar to how Marvel does their Iron Man shots, or just go purely CGI/traditional animation with them as most fan films do. They just don't work in a live action physical costume sense because the costumes have no agility due to the wearer being on stilts. You can't even run in those cosplay suits due to your feet being in the shins - and running would just have you topple over and crush your expensive suit.

Should just leave it as Guardsmen vs Nids.

Indeed, showing the aliens less made them more menacing. That was a good choice, completely irrespective of the budget.

I wasnt saying full frontal in HD lighting for the Xenos
Just a bit more of them.
If you didnt look really closely you wouldnt even know they were Nids.
I thought it was an Ork Nob at first. I..e the lack of detail for them just made them feel "generic bad alien creature in the dark".

I liked it.

I agree the hormagants could have been better but keeping them in the dark made them much more menacing.

For what I expect the budget was and being completely fan-made I'd give the short a 9 out of 10.

The space marine cosplayer did a fine job, I think whether you like it or not depends on what your head cannon is about Space Marines. The lumbering, unstoppable force, or the fast moving more anime type of armored character.

I think my only bit of advice would be when the space marine cosplayer has his weapon lowered, it looks a bit off because he's holding it in a position that is comfortable for a normal sized human but looks a bit odd/to close to his leg for someone with space marine proportions. As someone who has a Space Marine suit it's very difficult to have proper body position awareness so it's usually not something you realize until you're looking at pictures later. It's also a bit of a catch 22, holding your weapons a bit more away from your body makes your already a bit to short arms seem shorter but looks more natural. It's difficult, the "life" sized armors usually look better when their arms are out stretched since it makes the short arms much less obvious.
