Hello Dakka.

I am a total dissaster painting eyes. I paint not bad my SM, but once I arrive to the eyes I would like to go on to the next and leave them.

Is there any technic color witch I can use and give the eyes a nice color? I put them Green lens

You mean helmet lenses or the eyes on heads with no helmet? I rarely get the eyes on exposed heads right.

One way you can get around it is to base white, then put a coat of one of the Gemstone paints over (In a colour of your choice). This was the way Duncan Rhodes painted the eye-lenses of his Custodes in the Burning of Prospero tutorial.

As for bare eyes, you really have no option but to painstakingly dot the corners with white. That said, I have seen some painters shade the area heavily, claiming that the eyes wouldn't be visible at that scale - so YMMV.

Space marines are genetically modified post human monsters. Gyou could easily just paint the eyes solid black (or any kther colour of your choice) and say these ones have some mutation or side effect of their implantation process.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I paint my lenses with a metallic green paint, topped with the green soulstone paint. A base silver would probably work almost as well. Pretty simple and looks pretty nice.

For lenses, inks are an easy option. so long as you can keep your colour in the lens recess, take your ink of choice..black or the lens colour equivalent are good choices.
For exposed eyes, I do the full detail, white line over black, black dot method, but I before I advanced my skills I used to just ink them and highlight the face. still gives a half decent look in my opinion.

For the lenses in the helms I base coat, Nuln Oil wash, reapply base coat, highlight color, white dot in corner.

For bare heads I finish painting the flesh, paint the eye white, then use a micropen to add a dot of black for the pupil.

you know what they say, eyes are the window to the soul. So for me eyes are a must, otherwise you're just being lazy.

Lens: paint Caliban green full, warpstone green mostly full leave edge Caliban, scorpion green bottom 1/2 of lens, green wash to blend, gloss varnish. Remember to thin your paints.

Eyes: paint the skin tones, eye socket chaos black full, white mostly full leaving a thin black line around the eyes, dot the middle black, flesh wash to blend, retouch skin tone around the eyes.

white helmets here, so I tend to just paint them black, small brush, start in the corner and work towards the middle, turn mode around and repeat from the other end, needs paint to be thin enough to flow a bit but not thinned too much, if need be then touch up around it

I really appreciate all your tips. But you all have to renember my first post, I am absolutely dumb for paintings lens. That was the reason for asking if there is one technical color that can fit well as lens.

I saw one, the Hexwraith Flame. Would it be ok for the lens?

The gemstone paints are glazes, you apply a base of stormhost silver then brush on the gem colour (waystone green, spirit stone red and soul stone blue)

Hexwraith flame could work as could blood letter

I’ve also used Blood for the Blood God for red lenses/gems.

Hi guys. I will try first Hexwraith and see if I can get a good start. If it doesn't work I will try then green base with a glaze. If it also doesn't work then I will try one of the options you gave me guys.

Thanks for the help and the tips.

When I felt less confident being able to paint SM lenses, I learned to either paint them first and then cover up any hits I made to the helmet with the basecoat, or just basecoat, paint the eyes, then touch up. It's usually much easier if you do it early in the order of operations so you can fix any mistakes. After a while you get to where you can do it without hitting anything you don't mean to.

As far as painting the lens itself, I just go with the tried and true method of painting the lens a contrasting color to the base color, then coming in with a small highlight of a lighter shade wherever I think the light would be catching on the lens, and finally a little white dot to make it look reflective if I'm feeling fancy.

Paint the lens White. Wash with Green mix a little PVA glue into the mix.
