Well then. This look like an instant all-on pledge for me before I even watch the gameplay vid.

Did anyone else play Sid Meier's Pirates! on the Commodore 64 as a kid? The early 2000s remake wasn't bad either.

Super tempted by an all-in to cover my wife and I... but I feel like its a very pricey value proposition. At almost $350 that's a really low model count, and it isn't as if they're pre-painted, particularly large/detailed, or any of the other reasons you'd go premium priced.

I will be keeping an eye on this. I'm a sucker for naval games, particularly age of sail games.

And, yes, Sid Meier's Pirates! (original, Gold, and remake versions) rocks.

If successful this will be the death nail in the Sails of Glory line much like Wings of Glory ending because of Blood Red Skies. It serves Ares right for not adequately supporting what were high quality productions.

Paradigm for a happy relationship with Games Workshop: Burn the books and take the models to a different game.

The scale looks good to mix with my Dreadfleet stuff. I didn't see what material the models are in, but I think I'll get in on this one.

Ships don't look anywhere near as detailed as sails of glory though.

Admittedly they're also half the price of Sails of Glory...but also not hand painted. Not sure. The painted up models in the how-to-play videos looked plenty good for what they are. They're not super cheap though.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Aye, there's a disparity there between the price & quality. And yes, the reason for that is likely the cardboard components, which aren't cheap and typically don't get as big a benefit in terms of economies of scale, but it's game companies who're choosing to build their games around stacks of cardboard bits & bobs so it's on them if folk then don't see the value.

I get the appeal - loads of cardboard bits lets you put the rules for the models in the model boxes while still being able to claim you're not just parcelling up your ruleset to ensure people can't easily use third party miniatures. But that's still at least partly what you're doing, and if the models aren't really up to the price of the boosters(or for a HUEG licensed IP like Star Wars) then a lot of folk won't go for it.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I'm a backer of this game, and I don't normally back miniature games on KS, I mostly use KS to purchase boardgames.

I've always been interested in the period and late 17th century naval battles, and the models look fairly authentic as far as I can tell.

Should the game mechanics turn out to be a bit daft, you still have historical models suitable for any naval games in the same scale. I've seen a youtube demonstration of the gameplay and I'm not entirely sold on it, but it might still be fun to play.

The MWG gameplay video was okay. I felt like the game stalled a bit in the second half but it might have been due to inexperienced players. The look of all the components is excellent and the mechanics are pretty streamlined without being simplistic.
