Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

I'd like to hear your thoughts on aggressors and devastators. A friend of mine who is competitive on the GT circuit (Hulksmash) put together an Ultramarine army list for me; my intent is to buy the models, assemble them to the army he built, then learn to play it (and relearn 40k after a long absence). I was after a low model count army on purpose to

At the same time, while I scour the internet for Ultramarine chatter, I ran into Reece Robbins' Ultramarine army from the Nova Open this year. https://www.frontlinegaming.org/2018/09/20/reccius-nova-open-tournament-report-part-1-the-list-and-how-it-works/

There are commonalities between the lists, but a few major deviances (most notably, aggressors vs. devastators) - and since I'm in the middle of ordering or preparing to order a lot of dollars worth of models...I wanted to get some additional input.

For context, the 2,000 point Ultramarine army I'm preparing to buy and build looks like this:

Ultramarine Battalion:

* Telion
* Librarian w/Force Axe & Stormbolter
* 3x3 Aggressors w/Bolter Gauntlets & Frag Launchers
* 5 Veterans w/2 Stormbolter/Chainsword & Stormbolter/Stormshield
* 2x5 Veterans w/1 Stormbolter/Chainsword & 4 Stormbolter/Stormshield
* 2x5 Sniper Scouts w/Stormbolter Sergeant
* 5 Bolter Scouts w/Stormbolter Sergeant
* 3x3 Scout Bikers w/Stormbolter Sergeant

Ultramarine Super Heavy Auxilary

* Row booty Gmac

Assassin Vanguard

* 3xCulexus
* Eversor

---------------------
Reece's army that I'm reading about in the link at the top looks like this:

* Tigurius
* Telion
* Captain with Jump Pack, Storm Shield and Thunder Hammer
* Scouts x 5: Bolters
* Scouts x 5: Bolters
* Scouts x 5: Bolters
* Scouts x 5: Sniper Rifles
* Scouts x 5: Sniper Rifles
* Scouts x 5: Sniper Rifles
* Apothecary
* Primaris Ancient with Relic Banner (Warlord)
* Company Champion
* Sternguard x 10: Special Issue Bolters
* Scout Bikers x 3: Storm Bolter on Sarge
* Scout Bikers x 3: Storm Bolter on Sarge
* Scout Bikers x 3: Storm Bolter on Sarge
* Devastator Squad x 5: Cherub, Heavy Bolter x 2
* Devastator Squad x 5: Cherub, Heavy Bolter x 2
* Devastator Squad x 5: Cherub, Heavy Bolter, Missile Launcher
* Bobby G

Some differences in there - I don't have the depth of knowledge of the codex (which I've just purchased) to intuitively know why different choices were made, I just know that I'm about to spend $1,000 or whatever the cost of the models in that army are, and I don't want to have buyer's remorse over chunks of it.

Might be worth taking a look at Nick Nanavati’s list that he recently ran at BFS, its a variation of Reece’s list but different also. Im some ways to merges your two lists together

I saw Nick's list.

He didn't take aggressors either - I assume the Rune Priest in there is a Space Wolf contingent; and his article doesn't talk about how or why he chose anything that he chose - which is what I'm digging into here.

battlescribe doesn't let you because its not programed for it but you can do it legally.

Note if you take different chapters in the same detachment you don't gain any chapter tactics, but its worth it for the SC triple libriarian + bobby G detachment as you gain all the psychic powers from the different books.

Exactly

And on the topic of knowing why he took what he took, I believe he has another article about the list in more depth. But a lot of his choices are pretty obvious right off the bat, unfortunately not to be condescending but it looks like you took some of those units based of others opinions while not really understanding their true worth and use. Which is why you may find this list hard to play in practice.

Reeces list works because it relies on mortal wound spam which he gets with the Devestators, snipers, libbys. YOu having the aggressors is going to change that somewhat.
