They were precursors to SM, but AFAIK they didn't seem to explicitly have the same limitations that SM had from being specifically drawn from their Primarch's respective geneseed and hence needed to be male. Realistically speaking I think they would still be predominantly male, but its possible some females made it into their ranks. Either way, those females would be as roided up as their male compatriots so the distinguishing physical attributes would be subtle, if any.

I just made a Thunder Warrior squad because I had some minis that were too large to kitbash into marines, so I made them up as Thunder Warriors with a Lightning Standard. Of them had really long hair so I just put that one together as a female. She ended up being the tallest of the 6, but they still look cool to me...not like I can use them anywhere, but they make a nice addition to my shelf. She also has Thunderwolf Cavalry paws as her shoulder pads, so she is a big girl.

I'm considering a small squad of Thunder Warriors using the Imperial Nobility Blood Bowl team.

The team comes with 2 women so yeah, I'm going to do at least one female TW.

Looking forward to seeing yours!

I'm sure this topic may produce a lot of sighs, and for that I apologise.

I'm considering a small Thunder Warriors modelling project; is it unreasonable to do female Thunder Warriors? I have some spare esher bits and I think some strong femininity won't be misplaced.

Depends on how your models will look like in the end. If it is something as lazy like just a head swap you might as well have better taken a stroll to the local forest instead.

Are there any cases in the lore of them? No. But still no reason you can't make something up lore friendly.

I'm not for female SM myself but the easy answer to getting there is "warp shenanigans". Thunder warriors are a harder sell because they're waaay before HH or the GC when that became plentiful.

You could say there was a sub division of the SoS of non-blanks that performed their role similarly to the TW while the SoS were newly formed. I dont think anyone would start an issue with that. And if they do IRL. Well their weirdos arguing to your face about toys so who cares what they think.

My personal fluff is a chapter recreated/rediscovered the technique for the grimmer darknesser of Warhammer 41k.

They'll count as Primaris

Yeah: they needn't be 'original' thunder warriors to be enhanced the same way.

There was a bunch of surviving thunder warriors in the great crusade called the Dait Tar (spelling?) Who properly fethed some world eaters up. They lost, because there were only a few dozen, but they took rather a lot of marines with them.

Termagants expended for the Hive Mind: ~2835

As someone who is very strongly against female Astartes for thematic reasons, I have nothing against female Thunder Warriors - it'd be an interesting modeling project and there's nothing in the backstory saying they weren't there, and nothing to where they wouldn't fit thematically.

I wonder *how* horribly it went wrong?, are we talking about massive organ failure or did they end up looking like the dog monster from John Carpenter's 1980's The Thing?

Since I see the Emperor as fairly villainous, I imagine that one of them got wise to his bs and in a fit of gynophobia he had them all killed.

I'm more confused as to why it wasn't locked as a thread necro - 3+ years between posts normally achieves that.

I'm guessing no-one reported it as such (and Kid_Kyoto didn't notice).

Oh, 3-4 year gap.

No I didn't notice, the jump happened between pages.

Discussion seems kind of civil for now, so keep it open?

Probably because everyone is in agreement, we all say go for it. Thunder warriors are a footnote in the 40k story. Note the dominant faction. Very few people, if anyone has any strong opinions on them either way. So not much to discuss here. Now if it was female versions of the main faction that is being discussed…..

The only real info on them is in Outcast dead and the last church, there is no information stating they are female.

Also Dreams of Unity (where they feels definitely gloryhounds compared to mahreens) and bit of second-hand lore in Master of Mankind. None too.

Or that they aren't. In TLC we see thousands of them as combatants with no character development.

For all we know they could be female, neither the narrative nor the plot require a particular gender.

In OD we meet precisely two.

In VBotI we meet one, likewise one in Pariah.

All the named characters thus far have been presented as male, or at least sufficiently masculine to be assumed as such by the protagonists, but how would we know?

TW are not SM, they are a different beast altogether and "beast" is exactly the right word.

I'd suggest that post transformation there'd be little, if any, observable difference without close examination.

There is literally nothing saying they can't be females. You can make your models how ever you want. You can put unicorn tails on their helmets and make them My Little ThunderWarriors, WHERE MAGIC IS HERESY AND HERESY IS MET WITH DEATH.

But yeah, go nuts. I think this is a cool idea and hope they turn out great!

on the forum. Obviously

Yeah there's nothing that indicates there are no thunder warrior women.
They're probably very rare, but there's nothing that says it can't be done.

Are counts as armies not a thing anymore? I don't see why these types of creative desires can't be expressed as their own thing. You want female Thunder Warriors, why wouldn't such a thing exist in the vast space in which GW provides for players to make up their own stories? Perhaps there was a planet somewhere that had a matriarchal society and progressed along the same lines as techno-barbarian Terra and that's where this army is from? I would be much quicker to vote rule of cool on that than something shoehorned into an existing space because the previous lore doesn't explicitly deny it. That's the neat thing about counts as, you can get very creative with it and not tread on anyone's toes so long as you do it well.
