How do?

So, I’ll be succinct. Because I’m in the pub and on 3%.

Blackshields were Heresy Era renegades that basiclly didn’t necessarily pick a side. Some were from Loyalist Legions that got their arses kicked on Istvaan.

Is it feasible for some of those to have survived into the 41st Millenium, almost acting as a Freelance A-Team?

Discuss.

Again, 3% battery, so bare bones post is bare bones!

That has me intrigued! Got a link, as I’m not at all familiar with them.

They're in Carcharodons: Outer Dark (and their Lexicanum page).

Nowadays it appears most Blackshields go and join the Deathwatch. Occasionally they'll get marines show up from renegade chapters etc and they'll take em in no questions asked.

Cutting about the galaxy in a black Strike Cruiser with a red stripe?

I'm not overly fond of having yet more 10,000-year-old marines hanging around for no obvious reasons, but other than that I don't see why bands of Marines like this wouldn't have survived into the post-Heresy era.

Deathwatch Blackshields are essentially unrelated to 30k era Blackshields. The former are individual marines, whereas the latter were whole warbands. Also, the Deathwatch asks plenty of questions. The Blackshield is interrogated by the Watch Commander and Captains to determine if he should be accepted. A genuinely chaos-corrupted marine is not going to get far.

I think it’s also implied in the FW books that 30k some 30k Blackshields May have gone Of and forged small empires in inaccessible parts of the galaxy that may or may not endure to this day. I’ll have to go back and look at my copy.

“Victory is not an abstract concept, it is the equation that sits at the heart of strategy. Victory is the will to expend lives and munitions in attack, overmatching the defenders’reserves of manpower and ordnance. As long as my Iron Warriors are willing to pay any price in pursuit of victory, we shall never be defeated.” - The Primarch Perturabo, Master of the Iron Warriors

Blackshield is more a catch all term really for any marine who obscures his armour, or removes/hides his insignia for whatever reason. So some are loyal, and some are more like marauders or pirates, doing it for the laughs. If you want to see cool blackshield models check out 'the real broken fingers' on Instagram. His BS models are sick.

Which was a massive waste of nice plot hook. They wanted to go on second great crusade and actually build what the Emperor wanted, state free of Chaos and religion/obscurantism, but nope, that was just bait and switch, they instead just sat on their arses for 10.000 years accomplishing virtually nothing
