The use of a bottle top is clever, but it still makes it another variation on 'miniature blu-tacked to a stick' rather than an actual holder.

They've put a lot of thought into the design, it's just a shame they didn't go that little bit further and make something that actually grips the miniature.

Anyone have any idea what that four-armed miniature is, though?

I have a couple of the Hobby Holders from the original Kickstarter (a friend of mine is a friend of the Kickstarter owner so I got to try one of the 3D printed prototypes and was pretty happy with it). While it is correct that the holder doesn’t have anyway to clamp onto a model, you can use the bottle caps as noted, but in addition there’s a hole in the middle that can hold a cork. I think they’ve shown it with wine corks, but I’ve used tapered flask corks to good effect.

The one thing I’ve been missing is the handle, and I”m backing this Kickstarter to get a couple.

Charging $36 is extortionate just to get the four parts that make up the hobby handle, especially when I can spend £5 for the GW hobby handle and that comes with a grip that I don't have to pay extra for.

Cool idea, but selling a threaded base isn't a hobby handle.

That's taking it a bit far, there. A lot of painters use a holder of one sort or another, and many of them would prefer a product they can buy rather than making their own. Not seeing a use for it yourself is no reason to be insulting.

I backed the original KS and I'm very happy with this holder.
The difference with the "miniature on a stick" is the bar on the side that help handling the mini and which I find very usefull when painting the underside part of a mini, as it allows to rest the thing on the table without rubbing the paint off the head/highest part of the mini.

You're painting miniatures. Of course, you are!

Not everyone needs this holder. But not everyone *doesn't* need this holder. Some painters who spent *weeks* on one model at a time will find this useful for their display-level painting. I paint 20+ miniatures at a time, so will stick to my Walmart erstwhile craft paint hand grips, not to mention Tupperware wet palette, for that one guy who went ballistic on BoW about that Everlasting wet palette.

I consider this whole hobby and anything related to it as luxury items. If I can justify the cost of my plastic dollies then I can justify just about anything I spend on working on them or painting them. If this makes my painting experience more enjoyable then it is money well spent.

I share the same sentiment as above. The hobby holder is a luxury item, not needed but very convenient if you get it. I have used pill/paint bottles before the hobby holder, but now that I have used the hobby holder close to a year, I don't think I will ever paint without it.

There are two things that convinced me to back the first kickstarter of the hobby holder: the stability bar and the modularity of the system. The best part of the hobby holder for me is the stability bar. I could steady my hand to paint without the bar; but I have limited positions to do so. With the stability bar I have more comfortable positions to hold the miniature while having something to steady my hand to paint finer details. In my opinion, at the minimum, the base plus the stability bar together makes the hobby holder a useful painting tool (~$16-20 total). I think this is priced similar or less expensive than the rathcore product. A lot more expensive than the GW product, but the GW product lacks the stability bar.

The modularity of the hobby holder allow everyone to customize it for your own specific needs. For me, I would like more surface area to hold onto, as I have clumsy hands that tend to drop small things. I made my own grip mods based on instructions provided by Kit, the creator. It is very easy to make your own homemade grip mods to fit your own purposes. I made mine with wood tread wheels from local craft store. If you have the money to splurge, a variety of 3D-printed grip mods are available in the Hobby Holder online store, at a variety of prices based on material used (reasonably price, in my opinion). And of course, this second kickstarter (already funded) will be funding the creation of a plastic injected "Ergonomic Grip Mod" as another option.

This second kickstarter introduces a larger stability bar option. It was something I was hoping to be made so that I can use a bar with larger models.

It’s also very helpful when paining fine details and precision lines. You can old the mini by its top and bottom without having to touch the mini itself.

GW one works just fine for me. don't really see benefit on spending more money on this.

To me it looks like this one will be easier to swap models off as you can unscrew one cap and put another on for unit painting where the GW and the Rathcore take more handling to get them on and off.

I can see the benefit of the stability bar, but I dislike using blue tac to hold the mini in place.

How about a stability bar I can click onto my GW painting handle? That'd be handy!

I use blue tac on old paint pots so I don't see an issue with this. I'm surprised GW didn't engineer a support into their design from the start.

Cork + pin is another option with the hobby holder if you don't care for tac.

Thank you... all 3,298 of you!
Our community now includes more than 8000 painters across the world! Thank you for believing in me, Game Envy and the Hobby Holder. The support shown during this campaign was mind-blowing and I am so grateful to be able to contribute something to our wonderful hobby. With your help, we have made the Hobby Holder truly the world's most versatile, comfortable and precise painting holder and the ONLY all-in-one miniature painting handle and grip!

-----

What Happens Next?
Over the next couple of days I am finalizing all the complicated back end stuff and getting images loaded into BackerKit. Once that is complete, surveys to select your parts, colors and add-ons will be sent out.
The BackerKit surveys are currently scheduled to go out this week. If you could fill them out ASAP we can get the production order placed with the injection mold company.
We have already begun packing bottle caps, and more supplies and goodies are arriving daily. Once the Hobby Holder parts arrive we be able to begin fulfillment!
-----

Late Pledge Request Form
Missed the campaign? No problem!

We have set up a Hobby Holder Late Pledge Request Form so if you or someone you know missed the campaign you/they can request to be added to BackerKit until the Pre-Order Store opens up. Easy peasy!

-----

I also want to thank my wonderful wife Ali for supporting my crazy ideas and listening to me talk about the Hobby Holder more than any person should have to endure and to my two sweet boys for their smiles that brighten even the most stressful days. Thanks to all my family and friends for believing in and encouraging me (and soon to be packing orders with me). Thanks to Evan for helping me through the injection molding process and going the extra mile to make sure the parts are exactly how they should be. Most importantly, I want to thank God for blessing me with all this support and the creativity and courage to go out and create something.

Thank you so much for the continued support!

Kit
