Must be the new shards emerging. Hopefully we’ll get to see your clubs Necrons with a return to the plog?
It’s been a while, but I managed to paint up the remaining Necron warriors today. Nothing special just thinned Gauss Blaster Green on their damaged and glowy bits. Black on their orbs and base rims before falling them done
Good lord, this photo setup does not really work, apologies for the potato camera feel
The lower angle is a bit better at least.
The first 10 came out of the cupboard to join them as well
Seeing the old school warrior at the back right of this pic makes me think he might’ve been an immortal as he seems a little taller.
I really should figure out the focus features on my phone as some it seems to only have focussed on the second row
I do love the low angle pictures of hordes of minis, particularly a shambling horde of Necrons.
Not sure which Necrons will come next, probably Plasmacytes and Macrocytes.
Thanks for looking

Thanks tzurk, metal white walkers is a cool view of them, I approve! Sadly this is merely the first place I’m staying this year, got another place when the family arrive and then the hopefully permanent place when I fit a kitchen (oddly many rental places in Germany don’t come with a kitchen!). So there’ll probably be more off pics to come!
youwashock wrote:Ghastly, ghostly and great. I have been giving thought to bringing the blog back to life. We'll see.
Thanks mate, hopefully the blog makes a return. We’ll be here if it does!
Well, the benefit of living on your own is that there are minimal chores to be done so I spent most of today catching up on missed German lessons… some of it makes sense, particularly numbers and food… that probably says a lot about out me . I also did some painting during the breaks which allowed me to get the Plasmacytes and Macrocytes finished, though I see I forgot to tidy up an orb or 2.
And here they are leading the horde like the tokens and action units they are;
I think that brings me to 32 minis painted for the year already, so just shy of 1 per day (noting that most of the work was done last year). The next 6 are on the table already, with the first stage of glow done on the 3 Skorpekh and 3 Ophydian Destroyers. Maybe I can get the whole set done next weekend?
Thanks for looking

This Necron Horde is really shaping up nicely. The scheme does indeed look very creepy en masse! It makes me think back to the 3rd Edition Necron Codex, before they gave the skelly boys personalities- that Codex was genuinely unsettling and I liked it alot.
One thing I will say is it would be worth doublechecking your base rims so the black is nice and solid- it compliments your paint scheme that way. Might just be the photos tho, they are a cruel mistress to my own stuff!

Greetings dakka! Not much of a hobby update, more a life update. Firstly I’m still alive, but most importantly my family have now moved to Germany with me. We’ve been in an Airbnb for the last few weeks whilst we waited for the keys to our long term apartment and our stuff to arrive. We’re now living in the new place, but we need to get a kitchen fitted because rental properties not having kitchen is a thing in Germany! I’ve started reconstructing my hobby space, but it’ll probably be April before I get around to more painting updates. That will likely be after we’ve made a trip back to the UK to collect our guinea pigs over the Easter holidays. So busy times ahead in Schloss Gobert (actually wohnung but one can dream!).
Finally, thanks for all the comments!
Olthannon wrote:Great work on the Necrons Gobert! Nice to see you painting them up again. I'm very envious of your progress! A mini a day is excellent work!
Thanks Olthannon, they’re a great army for fast results and look pretty good imho too… sadly my rate of progress fell off a cliff

Thanks Jordy, and I agree the low angle helps sell the horde vibe. I’ll have to get the tomb world terrain painted up to give a better background too.

I think I dropped out of the hobby before 3rd edition, maybe I’ll have to source a copy as it sounds cool. Agree on the base rims, I had to use Black Templar contrast as I forgot to bring a proper black paint. I’ve got my full compliment of paints now, so will definitely fix that

Thanks Syro, it’s been quite the upheaval, but signs of normality are beginning to emerge… 1 more week until kitchen! Thankfully we were not completely caught unawares about the kitchen situation but it’s still a PITA.

Vielen Dank mein freund! Mein Deutsch ist nicht gut, aber ich lerne!
I’ve slowly been getting my hobby area ready and found some time tonight to give it a test run. I figured that I should finish the rest of the Necrons so threw some Gauss Blaster Green at the Ophydian Destroyers.
Oh, and the other day I fixed the broken one with a bit of paper clip and some sprue goo. Hopefully he won’t break again. That’s it for now but for those that are interested the Guinea Pigs made it safely to Germany over the Easter Weekend!

Exciting to see the painting area is up and running again. I think you might be optimistic about those destroyers not breaking again - not that I don't trust your repair, I'm sure that bit will be fine, but they look like exceptionally fragile models with lots with lots of easy to snag parts!

Yeah, it’s probably wishful thinking but I’ve managed to finish them with out breaking them again, so I’ll take that!

Danke, aber Google Translate hilft though usually to check I’ve got the words the right way around and the correct version of the verb.
Since there wasn’t much to finish off on the Ophydian Destroyers, just black orbs a bit of ‘Ardcoat and black on the base rims.
They’re pretty cool minis even if they’re ridiculously easy to break. That said painting them has me eyeing up Nekrosor Ammentar who also looks a bit fragile. Here’s some individual pics of the destroyers
Love this guys missing lower jaw
These guys turned out pretty well for a bunch of broken bits in an eBay haul. This last guy needed a good bit of work getting an arm from I think an old school Necron Warrior and it made the blade from a bit of sprue that I sanded down. Just wish I’d have sorted out that mould line!
I think I’ll do the 3 Skorpekh Destroyers next as they don’t have much left to either.
Thanks for looking!

Sat down for an hour this afternoon to fix the bad rim job that Ragsta pointed out. I had intended to just do the Macrocytes, Plasmacytes and Warriors but ended up doing the whole batch including the unfinished minis

EDIT: No, I am not rewording the above I do think you should get yersel a copy of the 3rd ed Codex. The grouped effect of your Necrons really slaps! I'm glad you're settling into your job move well. It does make it harder sending you bits tho

Fair enough, we obviously share a similar juvenile sense of humour. Maybe if I get through the DeathGuard 10th Ed codex I’ll treat myself to some olde Necrons codex too.
So the good thing about leaving project half finished is that you get to complete things really quickly when you finally get around to them. The Skorpekhs joined the Ophydian brothers in the completed pile
Goberts Gubbins - 13 Apr 26 - 2026=38 - Necron Ophydian & Skorpekh Destroyers Complete
Overall I think these turned out pretty well for what started as a bunch of broken bits in the same eBay haul as the Ophydians. Since they are monopose I ended up swapping their arms around to get something decent. Bits of their poses are a bit derpy but the overall is pretty good I think. Here’s some individual pics
The Necrons will continue to dominate the pile for a little while, and the next ones will need a bit more work. I think I’ll do the Kill Team Tomb Crawlers.
Thanks for Looking

I ended up taking a slight pivot after finishing the Skorpekhs and finished up the 3d printed game tracker that I customised for my Necrons. It was just plain to begin with but I added some text and a Necron symbol to give it some more interest.
The orbs turned out particularly well as all I did was paint them black and pile up a large blob of Ardcoat the surface tension of which gave a nice curve. I’ll have to repeat that when I paint up my Death Guard one, obviously they’ll be painted as puss filled boils though! The main thing that I wish I had done differently was to turn on ironing as that surface is ROUGH!

A quiet afternoon and evening in Schloss Gobert was spent finishing up the Tomb Crawlers from the Canoptek Circle Kill Team. As with all the other Necrons it was just a case of slapping on some rough Sybarite Green, making sure to colour outside the lines then a wash of Gauss Blaster Green followed by the black orbs that were finished with a bit of Ardcoat.
I like Bot butts and I cannot lie
And an individual pic of them both
They look quite cute and menacing all at the same time. Next up will be a rescued Royal Warden and Plasmancer.
