And some people will buy a POP model, yet look on people with 28mm figures, no matter how beautiful they are, with utter disdain and cringing. It's all horses for courses really. It's a similar debate with AOS card game (why would you have a sleeved card when you could have a beautifully painted hero?), Dice masters, that recent board game with chits for units, or even spending money on a video game of Warhammer.

I wouldn't bring a 28mm figure to work and put on my desk. Especially not a primarch. A robust funko pop figure of a primarch, I'm totally fine with.

Maybe I'm a bad example. I have on my work desk 2 pop figures, a Godzilla figure from wizkids, a classic mickey mouse figure, and a mini-mates Alien Isolation set.

Yes I'd rather have a primarch model than a Funko Pop, but that primarch costs 5-8x the price of a Funko Pop vinyl even before taking into account things like shipping, tools and paint. And then I still wouldn't want to put such a fragile model on my desk, but rather in at home in a display cabinet where it's a lot safer from kids, dust, theft and whatnot.

These things have their charm and appeal to a lot of people (although obviously not everyone) and are in a good price bracket to make good gifts. It brings money into GW they can use to grow, so there's really no need to get ones panties in a bunch even if you don't like the look of them. Just don't get them.

I used to collect the modular buildings, which was fine when they were only $100 or even $150 once a year. Now they go up to $300, with most of them over $200. Death Star was $400 when I bought it, now $500. And they never go on sale. Not the good stuff.

I now put all my wargaming purchases in terms of LEGO. Like, bought a battleforce for $144. That's 1/2 of a LEGO Assembly Square set. Start Collecting Kharadron Overlords? 1/2 the price of a LEGO Downtown Diner. Box of 10 Necromunda miniatures? Roughly the same price as the LEGO City People Pack with 14 minifigures. That's right. Minifigures cost as much a GW miniatures.

Bear in mind 40k isn’t just for model and painters who play.
Some people just read all the lore, and to them this would probably be a great little collectible (particularly if they like pop anyway).

Just don’t know why some people are getting so aggravated about them..

Collectibles like Funko POP are successful because of how accessible they make franchises. They are 3 dimensional caricatures, distilling franchise icons down to a common 'language' - a more readily grasped media with little possibility of offending. The arguments for and against are the age old ones centered on some essence that's lost when something goes from niche to a wider audience.

That said... I think it'd be funny if the Marines were a bit bigger than the normal figures, and the Primaris a little bigger than the marines.

I'll probably pick one up to repaint into one of the chapters I play. If they make more I hope they do a Terminator, Genestealer, and a Bloodthirster at some point.

Krell has a miniature. It's sold now as a Wight King with Black Axe.

Krell was destroyed during the End Times by Sigvald the Magnificent and Nagash had neither the energy nor inclination to restore him. He is gone as is the World That Was.

seriously though the hate in this thread is unbelievable, i though people in this hobby were nice and tolerable of other peoples interests especially since we are usually the butt of the "cool" peoples jokes for playing with toy soldiers

Yeah I know that his miniature is still for sale, but it is now a generic HQ.
If I remember correctly a Mortarch of Despair is mentioned in AoS, and that was the title Krell has, didn't it? But maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.

I would have sworm the Mortarch of Despair was mentioned in some AoS book or battletome about the Death forces but I'm probably in the wrong.
I mean, that he still exist in the Mortal Realms, I know in the End Times Krell was killed by Sigvald.

Well, like many I've already grown tired of the ridiculous prices of GW models - seems only fair to now have ridiculous bobbleheaded merchandise to round it out.

I'll pass, stick to my historical models, their rulesets and weather this out too - like those desert organisms that hibernate until the rains come once every decade or something

ok? Kudos to you I guess? Funko's aren't too my taste either but I have no doubt collectors and many 40k fans will pick up at least one for the novelty. and to be honest it's been a long time coming for all this various license product too appear. GW has been sitting on a goldmine with the IP's over the years. It's just someone at head office finally had that lightbulb moment somewhat recently.

For the record, I would rather have the Funko on my desk due to a safety issue. If someone takes the Funko or it somehow (for whatever reason, maybe someone dropped food on it) became damaged, I can easily replace the Funko.

You can't just do that with a regular 28mm figure. You'd have to do everything for it again.

Plus women LOVE Funko figures. I already know I'm getting one of these just to find out who my fellow dorks are!

So these aren’t really something I’m in too, it’s seems like you can’t get away from these things now but when my 6 year old lad claps eyes on them that’s all I’m going to hear about for sure. He’ll love them and I’m damn sure he will want a blue one lol .

Unofficial Funko Pop 40k rules addendum

A Funko Pop figure is around 100mm tall, a standard Primaris Marine including the height of the base is about 42mm tall. To use the Funko Pops in a game, scale up a map and all ranges by 2.4 (or just double them if you want to keep it simple).

Inventive use of non-40k Funko Pops for the opposing force as placeholders for other 40k armies is fine.

Nah. I'd just plop one down on the table and use the 'Imperial Statuary' rules found on page 250 with them
