Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

A buddy and I are trying to learn some 40k over here; he's using some blood angel assault marines - along with some death company, a sanguinary ancient, and some tactical marines. Everyone has the special rule "Red thirst" except the assault marines, and we can't figure out why.

Help?

As long as your detachment is all Blood Angels they should have it. What is telling you that they don't?

That is really odd that they don't have the special rule written in their data sheet.

It doesn't matter though. because the codex says earlier

if your army is Battle-forged, Infantry, Biker and Dreadnought units (other than servitor units) in Blood Angels Detachments and Blood Angels successor Chapter Detachments gain The Red Thirst ability

Meaning they get it as well, as long as your list is battle forged.

40K Armies: Ultramarines, Tau, Ynnari, Orks, and Thousand Sons.

As far as I can tell, its not listed in any unit's datasheet. It's all covered by the rules on page 134 of the codex.

As a sometimes/casual BA player, this is true. The red thirst isn't listed on any units' data sheets in the codex, its on page 134 or wherever before all the data sheets. You're fine, Assault Troops have the infantry keyword which means they get the red thirst. Basically, every character, bike, dread, tactical troops (Devs & Assault), Scouts, terminators, San.Guard, Death Company, etc etc gets this ability

Interesting - I'll tell my buddy that Battlescribe is wrong in this case then.

Battlescribe is community maintained and should never be used as a rule source. If there are anything weird on battlescribe, always consult appropriate rulebook.

We did and were trying to sort out the inconsistency. Two newbs. I need a ing flowchart to figure out what the rules for my basic space marines are between the codex, errata, chapter approved, FAQ, secondary FAQ, revised codex, chapter approved FAQ, FAQ of the FAQ of the errata, and I probably forgot some stuff.

I've raised an issue for the missing Red Thirst on Assault Marines on the 40k repo.

https://github.com/BSData/wh40k/issues/4548, in case you want to see when it gets fixed.

You forgot new rules in WD too

BattleScribe in addition to the codex is your best bet for now.

This is the main reason I just cannot bring myself to use Battlescribe. I'll take a rulebook, calculator and paper over it all day.
Which is a shame b/c it looks like a really cool resource. But if I have to just know the rules already, I'll just cut out the "middle-man"

I also cannot stand the format of most armylists when an opponent hands me a BS list. I know the format can be customized, but hardly anyone does. So the lists end up with tons of unneeded info that just makes the list look like a mess.

The battlescribe print format *is* a mess.

I've read that most tournament players build and submit their army lists in Battlescribe, but create an excel template type army list to give their opponents. I suppose the best opponents would provide a 1 page excel summary of their list, with a supplemental Battlescribe printout if their opponent wanted it.

I know that *my* eyes glaze over when people show me a battlescribe army list - I just want to know what's in their army, and I don't want to page through 8 pages trying to figure it out.
