UPDATE: I will keep adding to this thread as I progress with the hobby, newer stuff at the bottom!
I'm pretty happy with him overall, I struggled with the tiny details as my eyes aren't as good as they used to be lol. Knowing the correct thickness of paint was a tough one, I basically dipped my brush in water, shook most off then mixed it in.

Highlighting scares me, is it done before or after washing?

Cool skelly!
Ray Harryhausen would of been happy!
Highlighting is done at any stage. But I am an erratic painter.
Nifty way to think of the Highlights is: I think for miniatures it is important to have solid value contrast for better readability. And highlights are used to create that extra bit of contrast where it is needed. At times full sections or parts would just simply be"outlined" along the edges in a lighter color and nothing more.

looking great man.
I'm not sure if you are using a wet pallet but that might help with your consistency issues in the future.
Im by no stretch of imagination any good at painting but using a wet pallet has improved my painting drastically in helping to keep consistency consistent as well as easily be able to mix colours to help with layering/blending.

I'm not using a wet pallet, I do find my paint gets a little sticky almost. Paint consistency is probably my biggest issue right now, it's either too thick or too thin. Do you still need to thin your paints the same, less or not at all if you're using a wet palette?
EDIT: I just made one in 5 minutes using a sponge instead of paper towels as it's better apparently, I cut myself about 20 sheets of baking paper so I'm good to go, I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow.

You'll get there with paint consistency. Just keep practicing. Once you've got the knack it will never leave. For thin layers and fine details, less is more. Eg don't load up your brush with loads of watery paint. I tend to just work with the point of the brush.
If you have vision issues consider getting a mounted magnifying glass.

I painted more zombies yesterday which I think came out better, I tried some layering, paint consistency is still my biggest problem, I cannot get it right. I'm hoping the wet palete will aid me but I haven't tried it yet.
I just cleaned up and primed my Walking Dead: No Sanctuary figures which honestly, aren't great, look at those bendy weapons! I'm shocked there aren't any high quality Walking Dead models, it's the first thing I looked for when I jumped into the hobby. I definitely wouldn't order PVC models again.

Yeah checked them out, they have some awesome looking minis. I'm still shocked there's no high quality licenced Walking Dead stuff though, you'd think they'd sell like hot cakes.

Painted Rick from the Walking Dead today, not super happy with him but it's OK, still struggling with my paint thickness though.

Painted some more tonight, I finished my 3rd and final zombie from Mantic Games, overall I was a big fan of them, they were very fun to paint. I also painted a very basic D&D Saga model which I used soley to test drybrushing as I'd never tried it before. I actually like the effect I was maybe too subtle with it on the ghost, but I think it came out much better on the zombies rags.

Time for an update, I haven't quit the hobby and have actually been painting a few models.
Wizkids Mimics:
Khorne Reaver:
Wizkids Executioner:
Gellerpox Gnasher Screamer:
I've ordered a bunch of basing material and textured paints to take my basing to the next level, plus I'm sick of dealing with that fiddly sand! I just finished the Gnasher Screamer tonight and I'm very happy with him, he will be based once my materials arrive (oh and I also painted the tongue I missed in his belly).
I'm going for an eye test on Tuesday and wouldn't you know it, there's a Games Workshop 5 minutes away so I'll pop in there and pick up a few bits,
