It's kind of funny in ADB's Black Legion book the protagonist goes from bemoaning the difficult state of their recruitment problem to casually murdering a squad to keep Abbadon's less-than-flawless victory over Sigismund a secret. I mean, the guy's incredibly cray-cray, but it's still funny.

Spoiler:
Not only less-than-flawless victory, but also his genuine respect for an immovably-loyal warrior of the Imperium. Abaddon might be merciless, but he is still an interesting character (especially after the ADB books). I think his motivations are more compelling than several of the Primarchs.

The wolf was meant more in reference to Horus Lupercal... but go off I guess. Replace wolf with the Eye of Horus if it helps. I wasn’t trying to give you some concession like this is some strange fluff negotiation. Just trying to find some common ground.

So we can agree that there are still members of the Sons of Horus in the black legion. We can agree that some traditions, including aesthetic ones carried over. Yes?

So it shouldn’t be too hard to to see a warband still using company markings and paint schemes back from the legion days, as long as it’s not the overt symbols of loyalty to Horus?

I am very confused- is the Eye not an ok symbol amongst the Black Legion now?

I thought that literally their very Legion symbol is based upon an evolution of the Eye of Horus (particularly it's Cthonian variations)- their Symbol is an 8-pointed eye afterall. In addition, eyes still feature prominently on Black Legion models- Abaddon himself has an eye on his right pauldron. The studio-painted models also commonly feature eyes painted on in a similar style to the Eye of Horus.

In some of the FW HH books, you can see transitional symbols as Chaos takes route within the SoH Legion, that suggest that Abaddon directly lifted the Black Legion iconography from that already prevalent within elements of the SoH. Maybe Abaddon is just really bad at graphic design?

It seems to me bizarre that all but the most overt heraldic references to the SoH would censored, when the very Legion heraldry is derived from the SoH. The Luna Wolves heraldry I can see being a bit less tolerated, as it has a heavy association with loyalist SoH factions during the Heresy.

Mostly referring to someone putting the old style eye. Arguably once the eight pointed star is on there, it’s no longer Horus’ eye. Though the chaos eye outdates the sons of Horus symbol ironically.
