Mine measure at 62mm, but yes, the 60s. They come on the premade 60s with the broken missile on them. I can get a picture, if you need it.

WraithGuard are on 40mm round?
I was taking all my old ones and putting them on 32mm and then I looked at my new ones and they were on bigger. So now I think I will have to put my old ones on 40 mm as well.
Would it be bad form to put the new Wraithguard on 32 mm bases or are they supposed to be on the 40mm?? Automatically Appended Next Post: War Walkers are on the same 60 mm too now right?

The original base is always legal for tournament play - you can keep your WLs on 40mm squares and WG on 25mm rounds if you like.

This is not true.
A lot tournaments (most of the ones I've seen) will allow the older bases, but there is no standardised rules pack - some tournaments do require the current base size. As always with tournaments, check with the TO ahead of time.
If in doubt, the safest choice is generally to base models on the current bases if you can.

No, but the point remains. Without defined, standardised tournament rules, it's misleading to make a sweeping statement about what is and isn't allowed; if tournaments are a concern, the default position should always be to check with the TO ahead of time.
(Besides, it was a few years ago now, but I have been dinged in a tournament at Warhammer World for having Daemons on square bases while playing 40K, so even GW are not fully consistent there)

Updating the bases is always a good idea.
Most people will be chill with the old bases.
Everyone will be okay with older minis placed on current-sized bases.

While I agree that updating bases are probably the best course sometimes it just doesn't look right. For instance I have some old terminators (circa 1990s), they are smaller than current IG figures. If I were to put him on a 40mm base he would be lost. I actually asked some of my fellow players in my meta if I could use him in our Shadow War Armageddon games and was told that he was too small and they would prefer I not use him.
I know that some events allow 25mm terminators but it just feels so wrong to put them with current models, let alone current terminators.

100% agree with sentiment your post as a whole, but I feel a caveat should be mentioned that, no, not everyone might be ok with older minis on current sized bases in some very specific instances.
Specifically the very old Greater Daemon models, for example the original BloodThirsters, are much MUCH smaller than the current plastic. As-in, not even big enough to match the old metal Daemon Prince for size.
So you'd have to not only put it on the current base size, but on a significantly large hill/rock to match the size.
At least, in the eyes of some players.

Daemons are made of warp stuff, so their size is indeterminate.
A 1st gen Eldar Avatar (Greater Daemon of Khaine) is also really small. I would gladly field that because he's hideable behind a Wraithlord.

In principle, I agree that you should be able to use older models.
But in practice, too many players obtain the older models specifically because they are more "hideable". Considering that flirts with (or is outright) modeling for advantage, I can totally see people have issue with it.

So are you talking the RT Avatar that was just under 2" or the 2nd Edition Avatar that was about 4 to 5" tall?
I used my RT Avatar to make my jetbike 'BloodSeer' (Farseer Skyrunner) back in 3rd ed.

The 2E Avatar is nowhere near 5" tall. Maybe 3".
A 2E Eldar Dreadnought stands 4-5" tall, including vanes.

Measured tonight:
*Warwalkers are on that same base I talked earlier
Wraith Guard are on 38mm right now, the old short ones are on 25's
Metal Avatar is 68mm tall (not the really short one)
Eldar dreadnaught is ~105mm tall including vanes
Current plastic wraith lords are ~100mm tall inculding vanes
I have an ebay problem.

There is no 40K rule dictating base size, this is true. However, given that it was once a rule for several editions and that the majority of players would probably expect that rule to be the standard, it is safe to assume that a player's best course of action would be to abide by that guideline for any and all models. My personal rule of thumb is to never go more than 1 base size smaller or larger than the currently supplied base. And generally I would never go smaller unless the model, or a previous iteration of the model, was supplied with a smaller base to begin with, nor would I go any larger unless there is a specific scenic reason for it, such as a Character or unique centerpiece. But that's just the standard I hold myself to, not anyone else. One exception to this that I personally do is that all my Eldar bikes are on oval bases, but have never been supplied as such. It just makes more sense over the 30mm round bases they come with now. I have actually never complained or denied an opponent a game because they used unusual base sizes, nor have I had anyone do the same to me for mine. I was just pointing out earlier, that it could be a possibility, especially if you are using an older model that has an much larger current model. -

Well the dreadnought isn't doing much hiding though. It has these legs. With gaps between them. The avatar behind is perfectly visible from there.
Height doesn't matter. You can't even hide gretching behind rear of a rhino.
