I've had my eye on this game for quite a while, but I've yet to jump in because I just cant decide on a faction.

Love the models, and thats a big draw for me as a modeler, but it seems every army has some stuff I like...and some stuff I really dislike.

For example, seems like every army has decent gender parity which I really like, except you inevitably run into the figures which look like they are posing for a fashion photo shoot (you know the ones I mean) which seems really silly to me.

PanO seemed cool... but the knights are a little too 40k'ish.
Yu Jing seemed cool... but then things get all stereotype ninja.
HaqIs is seemed cool... but the desert jihad motif seems cliche.

What I really need is a "normal" looking set of figures. LOL.

Read the fluff, maybe it will help you choose the right faction for you. Japanese broke apart from Yu Jing (who are essentially Great China) so they lost all the Ninjas (but have Imperial Guards, Shaolin Monks and mind controlled slave cannon fodder) and and Haqq is technologically and human-rights-wise (not sure if I wrote that correct x) as advanced as the next faction, and they even have most advanced medicine in this universe (like medieval Arabs had). You can play PanO without the Knights (even though in Infinity they arn't cheesy and everywhere so they look nice on board). Pinup style is slowly going away cose of the omnipresent SJWs, but Infinity has it's roots in manga esthetics so a lil boobies and other fanservice stuff is normal.

PanO is most "normal" and Ariadna looks like present day military. Check out this gallery with official paintings of all the minis from Infinity: https://catalog.infinitythegame.com/all/

Nomads are iniquitous garbage monsters. Ariadna are inbred, degenerate hill-billies. Pan-O are bland, corporate evil. Yu jing are just plain evil. Combined are alien evil. Tohaa are duplicitous alien evil. ALEPH is manipulative, and, yes, evil.

Only the Haqqislam faction is truly worth playing. So, there's that sorted for you. A new Haqq sectorial, the Ramah Task Force is coming soon. from the previews we've seen, it will be very well done, with visually appealing minis, and lots of fun units.

However, standard advice is pick the faction that has the minis that most appeal to you. It works.

Ah, and trash talking other factions is a tradition in Infinity.

Yea Haq is is actually what I'm leaning toword right now. Seem to have, on the whole, the most "normal" looking figures. I just wish the gorgeous TAG, which really invokes the whole GitS Tachikoma thang, wasn't almost C$80. Seems skued compared the cost of the regular figures

Are there ever any "sales" on Infinity, or is its pretty much like GW where the price is the price is the price no matter where (in country) you shop?

Yes. Sometimes there are deal of the day sales at Miniature Market. Miniature Market and GameNerdz do sell Infinity minis at a discount too.

The Maghariba Guard is a big mini. A very big mini. Apparently 69.40 loonies -- $51.97 -- at GameNerdz.

Seriously, the different factions are very well balanced, so you don't need to worry

It's difficult to chose based on style before you are familiar, because Infinity plays so differently to other wargames that the same styles don't apply.
Choosing based on the look or fluff of a faction is recommended so widely with good reason

If you don't like specific subsets of models, look to the Sectorials. A lot of that stuff is only in specific subsets of the faction, so there's usually a sub-army that sidesteps these kinds of things.

I tell you what, analysis paralysis doesn't have to haunt you in Infinity. The cost of starting an army is sooo much more reasonable than 40k or Sigmar, for example. I'd honestly think about it in terms of which two armies you're most interested in, and then work out which one you're going to try out first. Whatever you do, jump in soon. Infinity is probably the best wargame on the market right now, you won't regret it.

Oh, I don't know. The cost to my sanity in assembling Infinity miniatures with my massive fingers is a concern to me, and I'm having difficulties with the much easier to handle PP minis (never did have many metal Citadel models).

Very small amounts of green stuff make metal assembly much easier. Modern Infinity minis are also generally significantly less fiddly with more reliable contact points.

Have you taken a look at Tunguska sect inside of Nomads ?
you get lots of cool robots, TAG, some cool backstory...

and they are Mafia... If i wasnt already doing Shock, Haqq, and soon Shasvastii I'd pick them up.

Haqq is very finesse... It was my first force and it took a bit to learn them and I'm still learning. Also don't get overwhelmed by the amount of rules in the game most infinity players are fair.

A piece of advice... don't think of it as playing Against your opponent, but rather playing With your opponent. it works out much better like that.

The previews of the stuff coming out this year should provide some options too. Some really amazing sculpts and profiles.

Apparently you missed the part of my massive fingers. My pinky has greater width than most of the light infantry, and I have a hard time with the small contact points on PP models which are much larger than the contact points of many Corvus Belli models. In addition, my hands tend to shake the longer I hold something, which retards the joining of metal contacts. I have a box of Nyss Hunters that gives me the shakes just thinking about trying to get their arms on.

Tweezers and splinter forceps are your friends, then.

Also, "helping hands" may be of assistance. They are a tool that is used amongst electronics hobbyists. A weighted base that supports a metal bar, with at least 2 multi-axis position-able alliigator clips and possibly a magnifier.

My friend had shaky hands as well. For painting, the way he got around it was to press his hands together so he would shake in the same direction. You could probably apply this to gluing as well, depending on what you are gluing and where

Many infinity models have fewer bitz than many Warmachine models. So they have smaller contact points but they are fewer things to glue together in general. Something you might consider is to put the glue down on the model, then using a tooth pick to deliver a tiny amount of kicker to a the bit you want to glue to the model. Like enough kicker to get a hold but not enough to truly make the bit fragile. Also, always wash your models with a tooth brush and use Locktite glue. It will give you a really strong, fast setting hold (at least in my experience).

I'm actually selling some NeoTera so I'll tell you a bit about them specifically lol.

Allegedly they get the best toys because they are the from the jewel of the largest faction, PanOceania. In reality, they get more MSV and TO than most but fall short in other areas such as smoke grenades and the better Hacking Devices. Their one big weakness is a lack of up-field presence on the first turn. They don't have more than one or two infiltrators and none with Camo or TO, so 95% of your force has to walk out of the deployment zone.

They just got an update so most fireteams will look like 3 fusiliers, a missile remote, and a godlike Aquila guard that see's-all and shoots-all. If you want a solid force to learn the game and still be competitive, NCA is probably for you.

This is a very good point.

I've got a force of Haqqislam Qapu Khalqi without a single whiff of desert Jihadi about them. Essentially the background goes that they work for the Sultinate protecting shipping routes of Haqqislam interest - a desert wrap or turban isn't ideal headware when working in low pressure or carrying out boarding actions of space craft, so I've gone for nearly all harder sci-fi looking units. There isn't really anything about stereotypical about them at all. A snippet from my blog below to give some idea - the Infinity universe hasn't yet been mapped out down to the colour of their shirt buttons, so there's a great deal of space to come up with your own idea as long as it's within keeping of the setting.

Spoiler:

Known as 'القطط السوداء' or 'The Black Cats', this band of mercenaries operate from the 3rd moon of Acontencimento, a forest moon known as Hermoso Bosque. From this secret military base they utilise advanced tracking and communications systems to monitor the large amount of incoming civilian and industrial traffic to Acontencimento, as well as probes that monitor the mostly automated mining crafts working the outer rim of the system. Should insurgent or pirate forces strike the Black Cats will be one of the rapid reaction forces called upon by the Acontencimento prefecture. Their high price is deemed appropriate by those who want a force for which completion of the mission target is paramount and complete discretion guaranteed.

Unit Commander - Kareem Boulos كريم بولس
Wearing a pressure suit this trooper, nominated as Alpha for the Black Cat interdiction unit, is equipped ready to be deployed in locations as varied as the surface of the planet or during breaching actions in zero g and even limited exposure to vacuum. His visor features an advanced HUD which provides a command & control interface for real-time direction to the rest of the unit and overlaying strategy information, provided by the myriad of drones and other surveillance equipment released into the area prior to deployment.

In these images the trooper is equipped in a camo scheme designed for the forest moon of their military base. This will differ depending on the environment that the force will be deployed in.

The trooper is equipped with a combi-rifle and sidearm as well as mono-edged combat knife. A ballistic impact vest and armour provides limited protection against small arms fire and fragmentation debris. In this example the unit Alpha is carrying supplies, indicating that he is operating for an extended period, most likely for a training exercise within the forests surrounding their base.
