I would have thought Sisters of Silence would have been better guardians .....

But this was written in the worst IMO period of writing for GK.

I AM A MARINE PLAYER

"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos

"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001

The Ring of Power is stuck on a single landmass. With the Blade you can put it into a box made of anti-psychic materials, drop it in a random bit of space and leave it. There's almost no chance of it being found by chance, it can't tempt anyone and nobody can find out by asking the crew because it's 40k and the crew are going to die afterwards. But like Fateweaver the logical solution is very boring so it's better to do the silly thing.

Yup, because there is no way someone like Abaddoff, Fateweaver, or Ahriman seeking it out on purpose, eh?

Imperium tried hiding potent stuff lots of times, it usually doesn't work (check out Pandorax campaign for one).

Well to be fair it would be absurdly hard to obtain the Blade if it were thrown into a star. It wouldn't be a problem as long as it stayed there.

Can't they just summon a winged daemon and tell him 'catch!'? Last time I checked, they ignore laws of physics so heat wouldn't be that big of a problem for them, ditto for gravity...

There's a big difference between finding a portal you've already found and finding a box floating in space. The Imperiums idea of hiding is putting something in a big obvious fortress most of the time.

Demons can't just ignore physics. It isn't how things work. Weirdly there are lots of rules to Chaos.

Not in realspace they can't that's why you don't have one bloodletter win the entire horus heresy. When demons enter the real world they become partly vulnerable to our physics. That's why if a flamer sets them on fire they die/get banished.

They die more because of the symbolic idea of putting a demon to the fire than of the physical properties of fire itself. That's why flamers and melee weapons are more efficient than a bolter bullet to kill a demon. And one bloodletter can't win the entire heresy because he's actually limited by the amount of warp/psychic energy invested in him during his creation by Khorne.

I suspect a better answer to why the sword hasn't been hidden away, thrown into a star etc... and is actually taken out onto battlefields is due to some esoteric rule guiding the swords destiny that the grey knights are exploiting.

Perhaps the sword has the power to cross back into the warp if it is not used to kill on a battlefield once a year, ordinarily this would guarantee that someone who wanted to keep hold of it would want to draw on its power to survive the battle and thus lead to their corruption.
Castellan Crowe solves this by being badass enough to use it as his main weapon in battle and still do well despite it being just a metal stick in a war of lascannons and thunderhammers.

Destined and storied weapons often seem to have elaborate rules and conditions that govern their use and this would seem to fit and explain this one.

Other than that I think Drach'nyen is the more powerful, it is formed from the daemon that was manifested by the malevolence of the first ever murder, the Emperor was show to fear it!

The narrative of 40k and it's themes demand that all solutions to contain cosmic evil are flawed at best.

Stasis fields and psychic wards can and must be vulnerable to sufficent warp shenanigans (Magnus and the Imperial palace) so that the plot can progress.

It's the equivalent of the lights spluttering out on horror movies- your safety systems will fail you so that horror can ensue.

This also works in reverse for cosmic heroism- Guilliman was said to be healing in a stasis field, foreshadowing his eventual return.

Any system to contain the necron or chaos that involves technology beyond shooting them in the face / hitting them with an axe is doomed to fail spectacularly, and the Grey Knights will know this after 1k years of trying.
