So, I figure I'll try starting one of these here hobby blogs, see how it goes.
First, I guess a little autobiography to "set the stage." I started play
40k in about 2007. First, just casual with some friends, later at a local shop I found. In 2011-2012, I stopped altogether, since I moved across the country, got married, and then would eventually have some kids. It wasn't until 2017 I even really thought about any hobby things and not until 2018 when I would even get anything really unpacked. I built myself a tiny corner desk and tried to save what paints I could from the old days.
Coincidentally, the trainer at the gym my wife went to was one day discussing "miniatures" with someone and my wife asked "oh, like Warhammer?" and so suddenly there was someone to game with. We got a game in of 8th edition, but then I went and bought a new house, so the whole process stared again...
This time though, I have a ton more space to work with:
Nail polish racks for the paints, make-up drawers for the rest.
Old Citadel paints that survived the Long War and I transferred to dropper bottles.
Now, on to what I am trying to work on. Building/painting/repainting my Necrons. More on the repaint details later, for now though, I tried to do some sub-assembly work on new Immortals:
The main theme is Purple/Bronze/Bone/bright green. The purple is VGC Hexed Lichen, the bone color is VGC Bonewhite and the green
iss Escorpina Green. The bronze on the legs is actually Scale 75 Victorian Brass, which I was not happy with the color of here. Fantastic paint, just ended up looking too "goldish" for what I wanted. I think I found a solution, but that will be a different update.
First working attempt at bases. More on this in another update, but this is some green stuff, rolled out with GSW's Necronic textured roller. You can see the top-most one came out very badly, that was not putting enough pressure on the roller. The issue, of course, is the stickyness of the green stuff, which water only somewhat helps with. Again, more on that later in a more detailed post. These were painted with a mix of Daler-rowney purple inkk and VGC Royal Purple, and VGC Esporpina Green. The idea here was that the Necron "ruins" would be "rising up" out of the dirt/ashes so I used:
This textured paste to "dress" the edges. They turned out rather shiny, so I'm going to need to learn how to shoot some Matte Varnish through my airbrush, but that will be for another time.
Well, likely this is long enough for a opening post, more updates another day. My hobby time is a bit limited, life, work, 6 kids we have, and so on mean updates will probably be a bit sporadic. Hopefully someone might find something here interesting, any questions or something you'd like to see, just let me know. Eventually I'll probably learn to take better pictures, we own an SLR, but that is something my wife knows how to use, but not really me.
