Is it allowed to intentionally fly off the board with a flyer?
Lets say your opponent has to kill a flyer to score a point. Now in your turn you pivot the flyer and „oh nooo who would have known“ fly off the board.
Something like that possible/allowed?

The rules give you permission to move your flyer, up to its maximum movement value. I dont see any restriction which would not allow you to move it off the board.

If you can't make a legal move with a flyer it is removed from the battlefield and is considered destroyed. I cant cite it off the top of my head but will get back if I get around to finding it. As for such case counting towards your opponent's objective, I'm not sure.

From 'Minimum Move' page 177 of the Main Rulebook:
If a model cannot make its minimum move, or is forced to move off the battlefield because of its minimum speed, it is destroyed and removed from the battlefield – the model has either stalled and crashed or been forced to abandon the battle.
There is no exception for Flyers.

I would assume the opponent doesn't get the objective. I believe it would be similar to a Warlord killing itself with a plasma overload accident. He killed himself. The opponent didn't kill him.

Meaning to get the obj. he really has to KILL the flyer by shooting at it (or psy/fight it to death)

You cannot intentionally fly off the board, but you can intentionally engineer a scenario where you are forced to do so. Yes, doing so will mean that the flyer was not killed by your opponent for any rules purposes.

In most missions, it's only required that the warlord be slain in order to secure Slay the Warlord. It doesn't matter who killed them, or even if they killed themselves. It should be the same for this mission - in order to prevent canny players from destroying their own models to prevent their opponents from having the opportunity.

Agreed. If you have a choice then you must choose to remain on the board. The rule explicitly says the flyer is destroyed if you are FORCED to move it off the board. Otherwise you must move it so you stay on the battlefield.

Could you pivot it so that it has to fly off?

You can, for example, fly into a corner and make it so no possible move can result in being on the board.

But not intentionally make a pivot that flies you off the edge if other angles are available that would lett you make a successful minimal movement? Or make a pivot that flies you over other models for all possible distances above minimum?

Correct, you cannot do those. If the pivot was completely separate to the movement then maybe, but it's all part of the movement of the model, and therefore you are not forced to move in such a way.

Wait, I always played this as scoring a warlord kill. It doesn't matter how he died, only that he's dead.

It depends on the exact wording of the mission rule. GW missions say (consistently afaik) that "If the enemy Warlord has been slain during the battle, you score 1 victory point.", it doesn't matter how they were slain. Other missions might use different wording.

GW tends to use the wording "was destroyed during the turn/game" in their Objective requirements.

I don't have all the faction's datacards, but my Dark Angels' "Scour the Skies" Tactical Objective states: "Score 1 victory point if at least one unit that can Fly was destroyed during this turn."
So you would still give up the Victory Point with your cunning plan.

Indeed. This cunning plan is not a tactic. Just play the game, man.

I‘d never do that. I just heard someone ask this in my local store. It was an interesting question. Just wanted to know what Dakkadakka has to say about this.
