In 7th at my store literally everyone in the store knew I played Orks. It was my only army at the time and I sucked it up and played games. Although their effectiveness made me wary of playing other people. I had people all the time ask me for games. Basically I could tell for the most part most of them were TFG because they were asking to play me specifically when there were others in the store.

I even had one game against an opponent who after asking me for a game proceeded to drop a Shadowsword and all LR.
-best part is I won because we rolled for mission and got the relic and a lone grot grabbed it and hid out of LoS for the rest of the game. everything else on the table got obliterated on my side.

So to answer the question while the list may or may not be TFG. The attitude the player brings can heavily affect how the other person sees you. Even if their list wins.

If your opponents don't bring any anti-tank they'll probably hate you, but that's also probably their own fault.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I don't know what a TFG is, but it sure ain't somebody who brings a List to the table.

Play the list that speaks to you. Adjust as required.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

A TFG is That F ing Guy.
Imagine all the worst character traits of every sap that has stood across a game table from you. Now distill it down to its purest essence, and then add unlimited budget and the need to vicariously live life through rolling dice and pushing toy soldiers around in order to feel validated.
THAT F ing GUY.

As far as I'm concerned, "That Guy" is only concerned with their own enjoyment of the game. Their opponent isn't another human being who should also get to enjoy the game; they're just a puppet there to do things so That Guy can selfishly do whatever they want.

i mean commission painted beats unpainted. There is no problem with getting commission painted models or doing commission painting. I have done my share of commission work, helped pay for college personally. but there is def a few types of customers. there are the guys that know their colors, and have a lovingly modeled army or their own idea of how they was an army to look/be modeled if i am doing any custom conversions. Then there is the guy that shows up with the current meta winner who will keep showing up with boxes of whatever is the most powerful and want it based and 3 color painted as cheaply as possible but needs it in 3 days for an event. Though the nice thing is those types also usually give you a lot of bits as they want them modeled a certain build and do not want to pay for magnetizing and do not want to keep the sprue bits or boxes to have to keep track of.

Good lord, I know that feeling!

Some of my closest personal friends and a family member could be construed as 'That Guy'.
I remember a doubles tournament some time ago when my cousin and a friend entered as allied Necrons and IG. (4th edition, I think.) They used a combination of the C'tan Deceiver and a sanctioned psyker squad mounted in a chimera to brutal effect. They tabled every opponent (LITERALLY EVERY...FRIGGIN...OPPONENT) by reducing their Ld, and then forcing a morale check.
Now, some of this was shoddy rules writing by the hosts of the tournament. Some factions just weren't meant to ally. However, under RAW, they were within the boundaries.
They won the tournament handily, but there was an unforeseen consequence that eventually comes to every TFG. Nobody wanted to play them. My cousin is one of the coolest guys I know, and people usually love playing against him, whether they win or lose. However, his descent into TFG land cost him quite a few gaming buddies, and it was a long while before he could find a game to play at the LGS. After TFG makes the rounds, many people tend to be 'waiting for someone else,' or are 'too busy' to play.

I painted the Necrons in that list. Even now, I feel a little bad about it.

Don't feel bad about painting the models in a TFG. It's paint. a whole other aspect of the hobby. For instance I would reach out to you in a similar painting requirement fashion not because I need it for a tournament, but instead because I don't have the $$$ for an epic paint job and even the 3 color minimum painting is too much for me to handle. i literally can't focus on painting for more than a 10 minute period. yes, I have a lot of primed and grey models.

getting a basic 3 color and basing is not the issue, heck that was a lot of my paintjobs for people. it is more the meta list part. like in today's terms a guy shows up with 3 boxes of guardsmen, box of command squad, 1 castellen, and some other soup ingredient that is "the best". IE just spent $1k on an army wants it painted in a few days.

hoestly that was my bread and butter though the quick assemble in subassembly, prime in colored primers or black then airbrush the color on a few hours later), wash and then finish assembly. base with pva glue and flocking only then make a few hundred bucks for a few hours time.

Hey man, we can do jobs

good
fast
cheap

and you get to pick two.

That's just how contract business works. No shame on you for that. Personally I'm picky with my commissions because I'm only using it for disposable hobby funds, so I basically limit it to "good" and "fast" or "Good and cheap" and don't usually bother with 3-color schemes as they bore me.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Look at it this way; if they didn't contract it out to you, they would have contracted it out to someone worse (possibly they'd pay more, more likely they'd get less quality).

Now, whoever faces them is just as boned. But instead of looking at models you painted, they see a much gakkier looking army.

By painting the TFG's army, you made their victim's experience *better*. You mitigated the gakkiness of what they were doing. You were a positive impact on all involved.

(All this assumes they were TFG - it's entirely possible this was the sort of shenanigans that event/tourny was looking for; I can't know.)

Ah, I dont get too bent out of frame about it. Mainly because it was a family member, I was well known at the shop, and by the transitive property got the stink eye. 10 years have passed, and he's refused to game away from the spirit of the game sense.
I do notice thought, and I believe it may have been mentioned above that, unless it's for a major tournament with a category for best painted, TFG tends to try and lowball the commission quote.
I'm also at the point now where I'm better able to say 'no' to a prospective client, based on similar reasons. I have sort of developed a nose for TFG, and since it's a side gig for me, dont have much to do with it.
