The Sylvaneth Tree Revenant kit contains this torso/arm:

I'd hoped to be able to use it as the basis for a DE/Harlequin model, painting the claw to resemble shadow-magic or somesuch:

However, as you may have noticed, that leaves the problem if the left arm. Because the Tree Sprites/Revenants are half-tree, all the left arms have shoulder joints that are much too large to fit onto this model.

I did have a go at cutting one a bit and using some green stuff to make it fit, but the end result was oversized and incredibly ugly:

Does anyone have any idea as to how I could possibly attach a claw-arm to the left shoulder without just ending up with another hideous mess?

Green stuff is the way to go. You want to drill pin holes in either component, use a piece of paper clip cut to the right length to attach the pieces. Once this is dry and secure, use your GS, in small amounts to build up your model. I recommend mixing milliput into your GS, or even using pure milliput, as this gives the benefit of being able to be sanded or shaved down once cured, which pure GS does not, so if you do feel you've used too much, you can remove it and shape it to your satisfaction, just wear a mask if filing milliput.

I'm really not a sculptor but I'll give millliput a go. Thanks.

I found milliput much less forgiving than GS.

I’m trying to remember the sprues but this is where I’d put something over the shoulder to hide what I couldn’t compose from scratch. A big ribbon or sash?

Only way to learn is to try. You can always rip it off and start again. Build it up slowly. I've been sculpting a diorama and it's taken me 3 weeks so far.. Take your time. With milliput or milli/GS mix you can cut it down or file it if you add too much.
