The lord of contagion has only 1 weapon choice , and that is a melee weapon right?, and if so, whats the point of him having 2+ BS in the profiles section of the datasheet?

Because leaving holes in the stat line is more annoying than just using the full set in case they somehow end up using such a thing. For an example, if you really wish, you COULD give your LoC the Skull of Glothsomething relic and have him throw a grenade. Or you could be playing a narrative mission, where models can crew weapon batteries. Or there could be a custom psychic power that references BS.

It's not like having that stat takes anything away.

I could be wrong, but doesn't one of the Death Guard characters allow you to use Blight Grenades even if you don't have them on your profile? You'd need a BS for that. In general it's there for completeness but also in case they release anything in the future that would require the model to use its BS.

Not exactly. The Biologus allows those who already have blight grenades to throw hyper versions of them, but what does exist is the Blightspawn, who has a single use death's head bomb that can be used either by himself or another nearby character. Good catch on that one, though, because that might actually happen whereas the relic grenade... yeah, no.

FWIW LoCs have two weapon choices, not one.
